Says who? Please give me documentation from the Vatican that says so…Oh and how about some early church fathers on the matter too.
Show me a document that says the Vatican has to wade in on this. There is none; even comments out of the Vatican have acknowledged that holding hands is seen as a sign of unity.
Since you are telling us how it is…could you please explain to me the purpose of the kiss of peace?
Do you know so little about the Liturgy that you need it explained to you?
I have read it in latin. Please credential yourself theologically regarding the liturgy…
Do you think you are the only one who can do that? And further, what does it have to do with the conversation? I have studied both Latin and koine Greek. So what?
I think in my prior post I said, I don’t have a dog in the fight. If you don’t want to hold hands, don’t. If you have to be rude to accomplish what you want, then I would ask what is the the purpose of being at Mass. If you can accomplish it without being rude, well, thats just special. And that is not to excuse anyone else who grabs your hand when you don’t want to hold theirs.
As I said, there are those who feel that liturgically it doesn’t make sense to hold hands when shortly after that we exchange the kiss of peace; if you actually read all of my post you would have noted I said I have no bone to pick with them.
In short, if holding hands gets your panties in a twist, then please don’t do it. If holding your hands in the typical palms-together fashion makes your socks roll up and down, please, be my guest.
Personally, I try to concentrate on the words of the Our Father so deeply that I am not really aware of how I have my hands - holding the next person’s or not. It is just a non-issue. I would hope and pray that some day you could be as deeply involved with the prayer that it didn’t make a difference to you either.
Oh, and if you think that the Vatican has to tell us that holding hands is a sign of unity before anyone can say it is, you have a very strange notion of what the Vatican is about; you also have a rather isolated experience of other human beings. But then, the problem with common sense is that it is not too common.
