I was watching Dancing With The Stars and one day when practice was just getting started, I saw Edidta Slawinska quietly and quickly make the sign of the cross. [Sorry for misspelling her name.]

Bear Grillys [Man vs. Wild] frequently makes the sign of the cross just before skydiving into “the unknown”.
Some non-Catholics make use of the Sign of the Cross as well.

Bear Grylls is just odd - I’ve seen only one episode of his show, during which he ate several disgusting things (including raw meat - in a tribe of Bedouin who absolutely would’ve had fire available to cook it).

And invariably that raw stuff he ate came straight back up - which begs the question of why bother. It won’t help in a real survival situation to eat stuff that you know is going to reappear five minutes later, surely.

Ralph Fiennes (along with his many siblings) was raised Catholic but stopped short of confirmation.

Anyone knows if Nicole Kidman still considers herself a Catholic, what with doing The Golden Compass (and signed for the sequel)?

Martin Sheen is falsely identified with being pro-choice because he is liberal in just about most of his other politics. One of the liberal organizations printed his name without his permission for a pro-choice ad he asked to be removed from the list and a retraction done however the damage was done as the origianal ad for him supporting the pro-choice movement was already out there. But he obviously took the time out to be removed from the list indicating he does not approve of the movement. But yeah his poltiics is pretty looney but he has not endorsed the pro-choice abortion movement as has been falsely reported in conservative circles.
Taken straight from his 2003 interview with The Progressive:

‘I cannot make a choice for a women, particularly a black or brown or poor pregnant woman. I would not make a judgment in the case. As a father and a grandfather, I have had experience with children who don’t always come when they are planned, and I have experienced the great joy of God’s presence in my children, so I’m inclined to be against abortion of any life. But I am equally against the death penalty or war-- anywhere people are sacrificed for some end justifying a means. I don’t think abortion is a good idea. I personally am opposed to abortion, but I will not judge anybody else’s right in that regard because I am not a woman and I could never face the actual reality of it.’

Pro-choice describes the political and ethical view that a woman should have control over her fertility and the choice to continue or terminate a pregnancy. A pro-lifer would say ‘There is no right to kill.’

I fail to see how ‘conservatives’ have falsely reported his status.

Here are some more Hollywood Catholics I found online:

Johnny Depp:thumbsup:
Tony Danza
Anthony Hopkins
Michael Landon
James McAvoy
Omar Sharif

Do you guys know id Errol Flynn was Catholic?

John Voight (revert, like Martin Sheen, liberal)

anyone know if Rene Aberjonois is a practicing Catholic? (Star Trek DS9, Boston Legal, The Patriot) He’s Quebequois and did the voice over on a very respectful documentary on Paul Paul II
René Auberjonois is not Quebecois. His father was Swiss, his mother of mixed American and European noble descent. He himself was born in NY.

Catholic and Hollywood sure seems like an oxymoron but there have been some good Catholics in Hollywood. It is a tough business to keep your faith in and so it is an even greater thing to celebrate when celebs keep their faith and live by it and are only married once and so forth. The following link is a list of American Roman Catholics, many Hollywood celebrities:

I heard that one of the many many reasons they got rid of 99% of the religion in that movie was so they COULD get Kidman to get onboard

On the subject of Nicole Kidman, I’ve always wondered if Keith Urban is Catholic or if it’s an interfaith marriage

The original post said Martin Sheen is a revert? What is a revert?

A revert is a baptized Catholic who had not practiced the Faith for some time, but then returned (“reverted”) to the practice of the Faith. Many practicing Catholics are reverts: their time away in other forms of Christianity or other faiths or secularism has made them stronger (and better-informed) Catholics than they were before they left the Catholic Church.

By the way, I am a revert: I was in the Orthodox Church (mostly in the Serbian Diocese of Western America) for 13 years before I returned to Catholicism (in which I had been baptized in infancy to non-practicing parents) in 2003.

Steve Baldwin is catholic and his brother Alex Baldwin… His WHOLE family!

Some celebrities I’ve seen at Mass:

Bob Newhart
Catherine O’Hara
Peter MacNicol
Dermot Mulroney
Martin Short
Jimmy Smits
Tom Wilson - “Biff” from Back to the Future
Arnold Schwarzenegger

This bio of him indicates that he is indeed Catholic:

And he wrote a song called ‘But for the Grace of God’, if memory serves, so sounds like he’s not averse to being public about his faith.

Yeah, you can get away with that in Country music more than in pop/rock.

A lot of country singers put out Gospel albums (Elvis won his only Grammys for his Gospel work); the closest your average pop star gets is the odd Christmas album.

Oh yes, I love But For the Grace of God (I’m a big Keith Urban fan- getting to see him this summer with my Dad!) it’s so beautiful…Oh lord I’d be lost, but for the Grace of God…

Country music is a LOT of God. It ain’t just honkey tonks and the dog dyin. I mean, at any given time, 3 or 4 songs from the top 20 hit parade will be about God. You have Jesus take the wheel, But for the grace of God, Help pour out the rain, I love you this much (BEAUTIFUL), Long, black train…even songs that aren’t specifically Christian songs often have a lot of praise and God in them, like Don’t ask me how I know, God’s will…Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentry and Trace Atkins are well known for that.

It’s also not hard to find secular country that isn’t offensive, and is beautiful and uplifting. Suuure, there’s plenty of sexy songs with a whole lotta swearin and drinking, but then you have songs like I Hope You Dance (my GOSH, have you ever heard that song?!) Bless the Broken Road. Lots of songs about family and faith and American pride.

Country boys and girls got a lot of faith, yo.

Lisnday Lohan and Lady Gaga. Yes, two that don’t really represent the church properly.
