Paul McCartney (sort of), He was baptized a Catholic and parents were married in a Roman Catholic chapel. I saw him in concert a couple years ago, and he spoke very highly of both his Irish and Catholic heritage during his show.

Is he Hollywood, maybe not like kind of folks described in this thread, but he was in a couple movies in his day.

Oh, and also Paul’s band mate, George Harrison, also born and raised in Catholic home…
Hey SimonX,

I’m not 100% sure Paul McCartney is Catholic, but I could be wrong.

What causes me to doubt his Catholicism is shortly after ‘Let It Be’ was released, he was asked about the opening lyrics (*When I find my self in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, Let It Be…) *His response to the reporter/journalist about an apparent reference to Our Lady was something to the effect of the lyrics were a reference to his mother and not Our Lady; he went on to affirm being a Protestant. I remember because his response was very disappointing to me, and, as many have thought, “Let It Be” was a acknowledging Our Lady!

Again, this is from memory, and I could be completely wrong.

And please, if I am in fact off base, please let me know, I would be delighted to know if Paul McCartney is in fact Catholic!!

Paul McCartney was raised Catholic. I don’t believe he’s practicing these days though. IIRC it’s been stated that his mother, Mary, was quite devout.

Mia,

Thanks for helping to clear up the confusion. Would be great if he came back to the Church…

Ken, I’m not sure how long ago I heard that, but I do recall knowing he was raised a Catholic.

Peace to you as well.

He was not raised Catholic, he is Protestant, Church of England!

Read the biography on him.

Mia,

That is great to hear… He’s such an influential figure, and always seems to carry himself with grace and charm. What a powerful thing it would be if he were to come back to the Holy Mother Church!!!

Thank you Mia!

He was baptized Catholic-- mother was Catholic. Father was Agnostic and he was raised non-denominational.

I knew he wasn’t currently a practicing Catholic.

Don’t know if these people were listed earlier, but

Linda Gray of “Dallas” (she grew up in my city and went to my Catholic grade school, as did the guy who played Kraemer (sp?) on Seinfeld.)

I’m almost positive Frankie Avalon is Catholic…
Ditto for April Stevens and Nino Tempo

Tyra Banks went to Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood…don’t know if she’s Catholic or not

Bela Lugosi ( !!! ) is buried in Holy Cross Cemetary in Culver City, Cal. I’ve seen his grave many times…Sharon Tate is also buried there.

When I was an altar boy, I held the paten for Annette Funicello once …MADE MY DAY !!! LOL

Forgot to add Dolores O’Riordan…former lead singer of The Cranberries

Jon Voight spells his name without the h but yes, he is a Catholic revert and based on what I’ve heard a big supporter of Israel and improving Jewish-Christian relations.

Eduardo Verastegui is one of the most openly Catholic (and also celibate) actors of his generation in Hollywood. Oh, and I hear he’s going to play the first pope St. Peter in a new movie!

Here are some more:

Eva Longoria Parker (I think Tony Parker is also one)
Rudolph Valentino

I also believe that Raymond Burr was one as well.

Jennifer Lopez (was one; her first marriage was witnessed by an archbishop)

Gov. Arnold Schwarzeneggar

John Taylor (Duran Duran)
Bono (U2)

I am not sure if LeBron James is Catholic, but, he did graduate from a Catholic high school.

Bono’s not a Catholic. His father was Catholic, his mother Anglican and Bono was raised Anglican. I’ve heard recently that he’s raising his kids Catholic, probably his wife is Catholic.

Larry Mullen Jr. is the only member of U2 who is Catholic.
Gosh… I can’t remember where I saw this discussion. Oh, it was in a blog I read somewhere.

You’re welcome. Oddly enough, most of those aren’t a surprise. Hulk Hogan, Wayne Newton are probably the ones who surprise me and Clark Gable is another I didn’t know was Catholic. I know nothing about the Dancing with Stars people.

I could add some boybanders. Joey Fatone from Nsync and Howie Dorough from Backstreet Boys are. 😉

PS: This thread is reminding me a little of Adam Sandler’s Chanukkah Songs, but instead, “here’s a list of people who are Catholic”
