Mentally deranged woman knocks over the Holy Father and Cardinal Etchegaray, The Holy Father didn’t appear hurt, got up, and continued the procession.

Glad no one was hurt and the perpetrator was arrested. However, I think something must be done to improve security. Two years in a row now a breach? Time to fire the guy in charge and get better talent in there.
 
I’m glad the pope is doing well, and hope that the person who was out of her mind is taken care of.

There’s an NFL joke that could be done here, but since it’s a liturgy (and a darn tootin’ important one), it’s not appropriate.

Maybe the day after Christmas. 🙂

i read about this on the internet and then caught a brief story about it on the news. i am glad that the Pope was not hurt. i agree that there should be better security. however, it is a solemn occasion and you don’t want the people to be distracted from the Mass.
it is hard to keep your eye on that many people.

sounds like the Pope got up right away and continued on. good for him! 🙂

i haven’t heard much about the woman except that she was unstable.

that is a shame that it had to happen though.
 
I am glad he got checked and I will tell you why…Some years ago the actor Steve Allen was involved in a minor fender bender…It wasn’t any big deal s,o he went on his business and figured it was over and done with

A few days later he was dead…He had punctured a lung as a result of the accident…You can’t be too careful

I guess there is no way they can protect our pope from this sort of thing
 
If i was a security. I would of jumped on her neck and snaped it.

i agree. unless security saw that she was armed with a weapon, it sounds like they did the best they could after the fact.
 
I’m stunned ! Prayers for Pope Benedict and Cardinal Etchegaray.
 
Is there a link to a video that shows the incident? Heads should roll here. She could have had a weapon and then all hell breaks loose.
 
Again, I am relieved the Pope and others were not hurt, but does someone have any idea who is the person in charge of security for these Masses? Is the Swiss Guard still ultimately responsible and in charge? Or is it a combination of sources, and who is navigating it all?
Sorry to sound so technical at a time when it is one where people are much more worried (rightfully) over the fact no one was seriously hurt that we know of now, and that the Holy Mass went on uninterrupted.
I just can’t help but persue looking into the abilities of the staff to do the job they are assigned to carry out. I’m not so ready to say that this can’t be helped and will happen. I am thinking better staff should be looked at seriously at this point. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me kind of thing. :o
 
Seriously, how does this sort of stuff happen? I am happy the Holy Father was okay though I read he was a little shaken. Praying for his health! Also praying for Cardinal Etchegaray, I hope he’s fine and last but not least, praying for the poor woman!

I’ve learned here, that fallen human nature is the party responsible for this sort of stuff happening. But, if this woman is mentally instable that changes it a bit, and since we don’t know much about her we are limited on speculating.
Interesting screen name by the way. It’s very memorable.🙂

Well, my question was more of the nature of how the Vatican security could allow this to happen?

If say, I took a trip down to London, and decided to go see the Queen, and hopped over the fence and charged at her, you can be sure I wouldn’t get farther than three steps! I don’t want to be too judgemental about the security officers though. Accidents do happen.

Yes, you can examine the competence of security that makes the same mistake twice.
The Pope is far too important of a world and religious figure to fluff this off so easily. I am nearly close to imagining a conspiracy theory- just not there yet.
Who from the inside wants him out? Any ideas?
This is starting to look like an inside job.
