Holy Father knocked down at Midnight Mass

I’m sure latin rite has had some time to realize what he said. It’s a normal knee jerk reaction to such a stressful and painful thing to watch if one is a believer I am pretty certain anyway. I am not, and it bothers me. But, once one has a chance to catch their breath, I think they will come to the same conclusion you are calming everyone with.
It truly is disturbing.
 
I have just seen the video of the attack on Sky News.

A woman in red, vaulted the barrier and went for His Holiness, it looked like she grabbed his arms and pulled him down. The security got there afterwards and the Holy Father, got up quite quickly and continued blessing the faithful as he processed to the altar.

I am glad that the Pope was not injured, as I know that if my gran were to fall like that, she would be quite badly injured.

I also hope that the Cardinal is ok too.

The Pope is far too important of a world and religious figure to fluff this off so easily. I am nearly close to imagining a conspiracy theory- just not there yet.

Well my dear Strawberry Jam, we must look at the usual suspects! Who I ask, wants rid of our lovely German Shepherd? The Freemasons are always suspect, and then of course those who believe His Holiness may be a reptile from outer-space. That one is always popular.

I however, believe this to be the work of the Diamond Brothers. They have concrete evidence that Pope Benedict XVI is actually Tony Blair who has been surgically altered to appear like the real Joseph Alois Ratzinger! Our dear Joesph is of course being held in the secret dungeons where the Satanic Masses are celebrated.

Though, it could simply be a coincidence :p!

I saw a clip from someones cell phone…This person was extremely agile and I thought looked more like a guy than a girl from behind

When I first heard about this news, I was wondering where the Knights Templar were at this time and weren’t there to defend His Holiness! So I understand the reaction. But keep in mind that this poor woman is obviously mentally unbalanced and needs our prayers every bit as much of the poor Cardinal and the Holy Father!

Take a step back and count to ten ;).

How sad, although its a good thing that the Pope proved to be perfectly all right. I hope the Cardinal is doing fine as well. I wonder what motivates people to do this; in a strange way, I’m reminded of the poor sick priest who tackled the marathon runner a few years ago, because this is very similar in a strange way.

Anyway, prayers for the Pope, the Cardinal, and the poor woman who jumped the barrier.
 
The woman did not have a weapon. All of those at the mass likely had to pass through some type of security check. There is no way that the Holy Father is going to let the Swiss Guard flank him up the aisle during the opening of mass every single time. They are very nearby and the response only took seconds for them to reach him. These are highly trained elite military men. Don’t let the dorky ceremonial uniforms with a pike fool you. They have plenty of guys in regular suits with machine guns hidden from view as can be seen from the rapid response from behind the altar and other locations just out of view inside the church.

Pray for the Holy Father regularly but know that he chooses not to allow the fear of injury or death keep him from performing his duties as our shepherd. Every pope has known that they face possible martyrdom going back to the very early days of the church, yet they answer God’s call to serve and guide His people.

Also realize that any person who is willing to trade their life for the life of their target can get through even the best protection sometimes. I’ve worked with our Secret Service and this is something that they know but don’t banter around in public. Pray for those brave young men who guard our Holy Father as they volunteer and know that they may be called upon to give their life to protect his.
 
An invitation list would solve all the problems now, wouldn’t it?
 
Watching that video clip, it looks like the one security guard who rushed in pretty much saved the Pope’s life. If he hadn’t intercepted her, it looks like she would have full on tackled the Pope, which would be pretty bad for an 82 year old man. Instead she just sort of grabbed his vestments and pulled him to the ground. The French cardinal didn’t fare as well though, and ended up with a broken femur. Ouch.
 
I watched the video and it is frightening what can happen to a public figure these days. I happened to go on a left website-Huffington Post tonight and the comments there are sick, sick, sick. The left in the USA is so anti-Catholic it isn’t even funny.
 
WOW the security guards are lucky that crazy lady didn’t kill our Holy Pope or else they would’ve been riots in the streets for there heads. Two years in a row is just not acceptable. They need to be replaced as soon as possible. Thank God our Pope is alive and i just love the fact that he got right up and kept going with the mass.

Hello Catholic Guy,

Maybe you can tell me who is ultimately in charge of his security. I asked earlier, but no one is telling me who is in charge. Do the catholic laypeople even know who is protecting their pope?

Who is ultimately responsible?

I did see a Knight of Columbus there, I think. Are there any KOC’s that are in the know on this?

Good call. I can’t be certian about this, but a lady I see at daily Mass tells me that you needed tickets and clearance to see the Pope when he visits the US.

I can see why.

We kept him safe. Why can’t he be safe on Christmas? In his own ground?

What kind of security is he getting anyway?

Get rid of the Swiss, and whoever else is in on this job, and get the US in there now.

You can’t be too harsh on security (yet) I am sure they would love to have the crowd back 20 feet more and a secret service like escort walking alongside the pope, but that would separate him from the people, which is probably unacceptable to him.

It has happened twice now.

I do agree, he wold not do it in a different way.

He needs better talent, that’s all. Catholics need to insure he gets it.

It made me so mad when I heard about that ‘lady’ (I could think of a lot more insulting and crude terms she deserves to be called).The Swiss Guard should have dragged her outside and beaten her to within an inch of her life and then drag her bloody, bruised and beaten down body in front of the cameras to show others that you don’t mess with the Pope.

In fairness to the Swiss Guard and whoever else was handling security (i.e. Italian police or something), it is virtually impossible to defend against the lone unarmed attacker. Obviously, metal detectors, x-rays, dogs, etc. can detect most weapons if employed properly. Also, a good Intelligence section can help try to unravel any potential conspiracies, but the lone whackjob is very difficult to defend against if they unarmed since there is no red flags that might pop up.

Unless you are going to have His Holiness covered with more linebackers than a quarterback at the Super Bowl or going to keep him in an underground bunker all day, the best way to minimize this sort of stuff is to make a strong object lesson of anyone who dares try to assault the Pope. The next time we see this woman, she should look like she went several rounds with a grizzly bear. Even deranged individuals will recognize that old saying: pain hurts a lot.

Again, I hope the Pope and the Cardinal are both okay.
