Phobia - an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
Fear - an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.
Aversion - a strong dislike or disinclination.
How does the word phobia not fit exactly? Sounds like the most accurate word to use.

Just as Cardinal Bellarmine was wrong about Galileo, so too I believe that Cardinal Muller is wrong in asserting homophobia doesn’t exist ( and I deeply respect and admire the work that Müller has done)

Genesis recounts that God created man and woman, male and female he created them, a point which Jesus adverts to when he rejects divorce. God made two sexes. He made them complementary. He made them capable of procreation. His command was to go and fill the earth.
God said nothing about orientations, about genders, and feelings or preferences. Male and female are what we are. That is the reality. That I think was the Cardinal’s point.

A lot of gay people have been victims. A few years ago, someone in my community had anti-gay epithets hurled at him before being beat with a tire iron. He died from his injuries.

Which I disagree with their definition. It’s not that some people might not be hateful but I think the word “ hate” is used as a distraction, especially in today’s world. If you are deemed and labelled hateful, you lose all credibility… so all somebody has to do to silence a critic is call them hateful, which is blantantly and completely wrong. A discussion on the churches teachings on homosexuality should never involve hatred (there’s nothing hateful about talking about the truth)or should never involve somebody trying to silence the other through intimidation or fear tactics. I think there’s a healthy way to communicate and I understand it’s abused by people on both sides of the discussion.
