No they’re not. People are not required to support them if they do not want to. It’s not really a big deal.
Of course no one has to buy anyone’s music if they dont want to. But asking why someone applies one standard to gay people’s sexual sins and a different standard for almost everything else is a legitimate question.

As to it not being a big deal, no, not really. But then, this is an Internet forum. Nothing is really that important.

Although I will say I get a little  at the self-congratulatory tone of some of the posts implying that the person is so brave for avoiding a gay musicians songs on iTunes. Seems like a bit of virtue signaling, frankly.

But yes, obviously, you have no obligation to participate in any particular commercial transaction.

My question is, is it alright to buy products from a musician, artist, or other occupation if they are homosexual? Like, just for example, if there is a store whose owner is known to be gay, is it alright to buy something from their store if you do not agree with any homosexual actions they may perform, do not condone it, and don’t know if the money will go to that exactly?
As long as the art work or whatever you’re buying isn’t immoral in and of itself, like it’s not porn, then it’s fine to buy from gay people and generally treat them like you would any other shop keeper. I don’t go around asking every person I buy from, or every service provider I patronize, about their sexual preferences, as it’s none of my business and irrelevant to the purchase.

Also, gay people sell art and operate other businesses because they need to eat and pay bills and support themselves like everyone else in society, as do adulterers, fornicators, and every other sinner. Shunning or boycotting the businesses of all sinners would quickly result in us having no place to shop at all, since everyone sins.

I won’t post it here, as it is highly offensive, but there’s a 1950s PSA floating around the interwebs that warns about the dangers of “the homosexual”. CAF posts sometimes remind me of this PSA…
“The homosexual often lurks in public bathrooms.”

This made me think of that meme. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, cuz they >turning everybody gay up in here.<

Gay people and communists were both used by McCarthy in the 1950s to scare Americans. Historian David K. Johnson has written a book about how gay people were depicted as a major threat to the national security of the US, The Lavender Scare: The Cold War Persecution of Gays and Lesbians in the Federal Government (University of Chicago Press, 2004).

I know this is an old archaic term for “homosexual” but I had to laugh as I follow a page called “Richard’s Inverts” on social media.
It is a page for a man who breeds rare and unusual invertebrates, such as large colorful beetles.

I don’t cultivate friendships in general. If I did, they would be with people whose morals and lifestyles and faith I could respect. People who would inspire me. And people with a shared world view and shared interests. That much limits the pool.
Wow. That really does smack of a holier than thou attitude. You’re free to make friends with whoever you want but I think your attitude is probably not a source of attraction for possible friends

Really?
My avatar artwork is by neosurrealist George Grie. I’ve never heard of this heavy metal group you freely quote.
Btw, Personal attacks and insults are against CAF rules. This isn’t Twitter.

If you were to avoid cooperating with anyone who ever did evil it might be tough find someone to cooperate with.

What if Jesus approves of the eremetical or semi-eremetical life?

Jesus hung out with sinners. One can identify with Jesus, or with the sinners.
I’m not Jesus. Therefore…

Eek…you’d have to be careful then. Otherwise ‘TEH GAYZ’ will infect you with their homosexual virus and then you’d become yet another sex crazed fiend terrorizing London.

I still think it’s better than being someone who foams at the mouth and jabbers “ITS ALL TEH GAYZ FAULT” whenever it rains in Colorado.

Wouldn’t know about that. Yet the implied accusation (not yours) was that I must support whatever world view that band (who I’ve never heard of) espouses in their music. Mr. Grie gave me permission to use his art, gratis, to illustrate my poetry. If that band is using his artwork, it’s news to me. Irrelevant to my usage of it for my avatar or poetry, anyway. If and when the poem is published, the publisher would have to negotiate an agreement separately with any artist whose work they want to reproduce. I give an attribution to Mr. Grie in a note at the bottom of that submission page, since it’s an ekphrastic poem. I don’t include his artwork in the submission, since that’s not how things work. If it’s my original artwork that’s different.
Now you know the truth, as opposed to ad hominems (again, not yours).
Have a lovely day! 😊

I know that the local grocer looks at porn. So I boycott the local grocery story.

I know that the local bookseller is a drunk. So I boycott the bookstore.

I know that the local taxi driver is civilly divorced and remarried. So I boycott the taxi company.

I know that the local baker uses the Lord’s name in vein. So I have boycotted bread.
Agreed, and I’ve never seem a thread on here concerned about that.

That is, I’ve never seen a poster say, "The local taxi driver is divorced and remarried. I don’t want to support him in his sin. . . . "
I’m more likely, far more likely, to boycott organisations for treating their staff poorly, or trading in a way that is detrimental to the environment or the local economy. And indeed often do so.
That’s what I do.

I won’t eat a certain brand of ice cream because management treats its factory employees poorly, and also because the company is a major polluter.

I won’t go to one national bank because of my past experience with them.

I also sometimes wear a triquetra. To my understanding it was adopted as a Trinitarian Christian symbol from Celtic paganism. If I used that as my avatar here, I’d probably be flamed as a Wiccan by the avatar police, lol. Then there’s the Crusader cross, co-opted by the Masons…

And I’ve read Mr. Grie’s bio and blog. I don’t detect any hating on Catholics on his part. More likely, his agent licenses use of his art to a number of different musical groups, without micro-vetting the lyrics of songs.

I interpret the work in question in a way informed by my faith. That’s what matters to me.

I’ve used a number of Salvador Dali works as well. He was very controversial, but also devoutly Catholic. I recently received a beautiful hardcover collection of his Jerusalem Bible illustrations. That project will probably take me the rest of my life.

In my grad writing program we had to read and then compose a poetic reaction to a graphic story, I forget the name. I was ambivalent about the assignment at first, but it forced me outside my comfort zone and the resulting piece was published by a British lit journal, which was nice of them.
