Easy to figure out. Who starts the threads? There’s your “fixation.” 😉

I have yet to see anyone ask “is it okay to listen to this music when I know the musician is living with his girlfriend” or “can I watch this movie directed by someone who divorced and remarried?”
One is more apparent than the other and it may be that people forget how bad those sins are too.

Found it!
The artist goes by “Seth.” The story we read for class was an excerpt from, It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken.

It’s not a wild leap in the dark to suspect that many on CAF have some particular fixation on the sexual sins of gay people.
I’ve actually seen at least one or two posts on CAF saying that heterosexual fornication or adultery aren’t as bad as being gay because a man wanting to have sex with a woman is “normal”, whereas gay people are abnormal and tend to be pedophiles or serial killers or whatever. It’s a bizarre line of reasoning to be sure.

I’ve never regretted ceasing to listen to blatantly gay musicians who flaunt their lifestyle and promote it through their music.I’m 50 and I made that choice when I was in my teens.
Now you can shoot me down for being a fanatic Catholic ? It’s between me and my Creator so every opinion here counts for very little .I don’t believe in giving in to the warm and fuzzy stuff, but rather stand by truth all my life.
God bless and see you at Easter 🙂

Kind of my point. If people are going to anathematize gay people and refuse to do business with them because gay sex is sinful (for the record, I’m not saying it’s not), they would do well to remind themselves that straight people can and very often do commit sexual sins of equal magnitude. Then ask themselves if they’re willing to apply the same standard to straight people and their sins.

Of course, if they do, they’ll likely need to move to the woods and live as hermits, since if you refuse to do business with sinners you basically can’t participate in the economy at all, but at least they’d be consistent.

Is it the fault of the gay person that their sin is more apparent??? This is a serious question. Have you ever considered that a gay person doesn’t desire to have a more apparent sin? They just desire to be married, and don’t want to marry the opposite sex.

This seems like a different thing. I don’t listen to Guns and Roses because I think that they stand for things that I oppose. I do listen to Sufjan Stevens because he sings about things that I think are important. Sufjan is gay, but he’s certainly not flaunting any “lifestyle”.

So I think your notion of a gay musician is rather narrow, if involved flaunting one’s lifestyle.

Glad to see this conversation happening here. I experience some conflict around this topic mainly in these two areas.

One is with local businesses and community organizations. Think along the lines of a small, woman-owned business that you know is run by a lesbian couple, or a restaurant or shop that has a portion of its sales support LGBTQ charities (e.g.- for homeless youth), or a health organization that is focused on LGBTQ communities’ needs.

The other is closer to the OP’s case, with artists or other creators who have identified as LBGTQ in some way. Some might even be outspoken atheists/against religion, but because of some of their other values, I might listen to a podcast or like a comment on social media.

I tend towards wanting to support and connect with other people, even if they have different views or lifestyles, but sometimes feel guilt or shame about it, like as a Catholic I should stay in my Catholic lane, and they might not even want to have a Catholic supporting them due to the teachings of the Church.

I try to pray for everyone, especially if I’m partaking in a gift they’re sharing with the world. You never know what God might have in store.

Doesn’t this lessen the gravity of the sin of scandal? If a person has little choice but to openly sin, in order to live the life they want, isn’t that different from a person who can sin privately to their heart’s desire, but chooses to flaunt their sin?

Please note that I would count some gay people as “sin flaunters”, but these are in the minority among gay individuals.

The latter is more of an increase of guilt.

Genuinely curious who these musicians are especially going back to your teens. 🤔
Don’t you remember those Queen lyrics from Bohemian Rhapsody:

“I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramuch, scaramuch, I want him in my bed.
Thunderbolt and lightning, children listening to this song
Should be gay.
Galileo, Galileo, Galileo was gay too.”

WOW! Talk about a stretch!

Here are the actual lyrics:
I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, Scaramouch will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, figaro, magnifico

Your version would be funny if it were not so sad that you believe a song could make people become gay.

It was a joke. I’m poking fun at the notion that 70s, 80s, and 90s songs were written by people who flaunted their homosexuality in their songs. (In fact, in nearly every case, gay people wrote songs that didn’t mention homosexuality at all in these decades. Often they bended over backward to do it – look at Michael Stipe’s songwriting for this).

As for me, I certainly don’t believe that a song could make people become gay.

My hashtag was a joke, too. Your post was funny and I should have made that clear.

I thought so, but it is so hard to tell now, especially when it comes to this topic.

This is why I use emoji’s 😉😉

Indeed. My post could use one or two but, also, it’s too late.
