There are a lot of people screaming that the Church needs to face the truth. That is apparently easier to say than to do.

These priests are the only gay men on the planet that it is safe to hate, or so it seems.

From the artcile:
It is not the homosexually-inclined priest who is at risk of abusing: almost all gay priests lead healthy celibate lives. The ones who are most at risk of abusing are emotionally stunted men whose psychosexual development has gone awry.
Are they homosexual? Possibly – but not healthy ones.
There. “Possibly”. At least, that’s out in the open for consideration.

This “let’s pity the poor, powerless, perpetually victimized homosexuals” is a mantra that just will not sell any longer. The homosexual influence in both culture and politics is greatly disproportiate to their numbers. The gay political lobby is so powerful that it forced the President of the United States, at a time when prudence demanded he lean to the center, to swear a public vow of support for the entire homosexual agenda. There is tremendous power and influence exerted by homosexuals within the media as well. This is a bloc which must be highly scrutinuzed in this attack on the Church. It must not be misrepresented as something it isn’t just out of the fear of sounding politically incorrect.

And as far as hatred goes, one need only research the many published statements made in the aftermath of the state by state (mostly) rejection of gay marriage ammendments. The vehemence of the rage and cries for retribution are nothing short of incendiary, such as, “We need to burn down all the f***g churches…then let’s tax the charred remains”, and this, “Someone needs to burn down the Mormon Temple in L.A…I mean really DO IT!..Mormons and Catholics better watch their backs…I’m serious.” Do the research, see how organized homosexuality has targeted The Catholic Church and the Mormons for reprisals due to the intransigence of their stands on gay issues. Read it in THEIR words. It is all out there, stated as boldly as the slanderous headlines we now see every day. Do the research, it is worth it.

When a group vows in public to get revenge on another group, and does it with impunity, is it right to classify the aggressor in that instance as a “victim”? I think not. If a group of people make statements that threaten another group, in public, on the record, are those threats to be taken seriously? Absolutely.

Actually, I think that the Roman Catholic Church is one of the last things left that can be skewered and railed against, openly and savagely, and with impunity. That reality must change, and it might take Catholic activism to accomplish the job. It is a new age we are living in, where everything is turned on its end, We would be wise to keep our equilibrium.

Mind reader.

I concur

The problem is not that a disproportionate number of abusers got through, the problem is that bishops covered it up and moved these guys around.
Screening, formation, and a “weeding out process” can only accomplish so much. It is inevitable that abusive men will get through. What’s important is that they are not allowed to stay.

Look at this article from the Catholic League.

Child Molestation by homosexuals and heterosexuals

A period spanning more than half a century—many of which were performed by homosex-
uals or their sympathizers—have shown that an extremely large percentage of sexually
active homosexuals also participate in child sexual molestation. This is not “homophobia” or “hatred,” this is simple scientific fact.

For example;

• Homosexual Alfred Kinsey, the pre-eminent sexual researcher in the histo-ry of sexual research, found in 1948 that 37 percent of all male homosexu-als admitted to having sex with chil-dren under 17 years old.4

• Avery recent (2000) study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found that “The best epidemiological evidence indicates that only 2-4% of men attracted to adults prefer men. In contrast, around 25-40% of men at-tracted to children prefer boys. Thus,
the rate of homosexual attraction is 6-20 times higher among pedophiles.”5

• Another 2000 study in the Archives of Sexual Behaviorfound that “. . . all but 9 of the 48 homosexual men preferred the youngest two male age categories” for sexual activity.” These age categories were fifteen and twenty years old.6

• Yet another recent study in the Archives of Sexual Behaviorfound that “Pedo-philia appears to have a greater than chance association with two other sta-tistically infrequent phenomena. The first of these is homosexuality. . . Re-cent surveys estimate the prevalence of homosexuality, among men attracted to adults, in the neighborhood of 2%. In contrast, the prevalence of homosexu-ality among pedophiles may be as high
as 30-40%.”7

• A1989 study in the Journal of Sex Researchnoted that “. . . the proportion of sex offenders against male children among homosexual men is substantial-ly larger than the proportion of sex of-fenders against female children among heterosexual men . . . the development of pedophilia is more closely linked with homosexuality than with hetero-
sexuality.”8

• A1988 study of 229 convicted child molesters published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviorfound that 86% of pe-dophiles described themselves as homo-sexual or bisexual.9

• In a 1984 Journal of Sex and Marital Therapyarticle, sex researchers found that “The proportional prevalence of [male] offenders against male children in this group of 457 offenders against children was 36 percent.”10

• Homosexual activists Karla Jay and Allen Young revealed in their 1979 Gay Report that 73% of all homosexuals have acted as “chicken hawks” — that is, they have preyed on adolescent or younger boys.11

• In a 1992 study published in the Jour-nal of Sex and Marital Therapy, sex researchers K. Freud and R. I. Watson found that homosexual males are three times more likely than straight men to engage in pedophilia, and that the aver-age pedophile victimizes between 20 and 150 boys before being arrested.12

A study by sex researchers Alan Bell and Martin Weinberg found that 25% of white homosexual men have had sex with boys sixteen years and younger.13

There are occasional scientific attempts to deny or obscure the fact that a disproportion-
ately high percentage of active homosexuals also molest children. These studies are invari-ably afflicted with one or more fatal flaws. Atypical example, oft-quoted by gay rights activists, is the July 1994 Pediatricsarticle by Jenny, Roesler and Poyer that finds that “Using the data from our study, the 95% con-fidence limits of the risk children would iden-tify recognizably homosexual adults as the potential abuser, are from 0% to 3.1%. These limits are within current estimates of the prev-alence of homosexuality in the general com-munity.”14

The fatal flaw of this study is that it stud-ied sexually abused children with a mean age
of just 6.1 years. Children of this young age are usually targets of true pedophiles, those
persons with no sexual attraction to adults of either sex. By contrast, homosexual pedo-
philes are usually classified as “ephebo-philes,” persons sexually attracted to pubes-
cent or post-pubescent underage children.

All the sources for these studies are here, as is the rest of the article:

I love it how some deny that men and boys are the same sex. “It can’t be homosexual!!!” is their mantra.

Well, if any gay priest puts children (at least, male ones) at risk, why doesn’t the Vatican laicize all homosexual priests and bishops, or at least remove them from parish ministry?

Your question has been answered in many other posts. Why do you thread jump with the exactly the same question?

Of course, in some cases, you have older men looking for younger men and younger men with daddy complexes looking for older men, but generally, it’s around one’s own age.

I’ve seen pederasty or ephebephilia tossed around. That is certainly much more accurate and would be a better term than making it seem that all homosexual Catholics have some involvement in these scandals because it’s not true.

Unless, of course, the goal is to make all Catholics who have SSA feel so uncomfortable in the Church that they leave. Is that what people are looking for?

Those men and women who suffer from SSA are NOT all pederasts or ephebephiles-to say that is as much a calumny as to say all men are rapists(which I PERSONALLY have heard)or that all heterosexuals are pedophiles.I think that those who struggle with SSA and maintain their chastity are truly heroic as there is not a physical force stronger on earth than one’s sex drive and the desire to be "embraced"by a lover.Sometimes we will fall as that is our nature and Christ will forgive us through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As a single heterosexual Catholic ,I struggle with Chastity, the Rosary and the supportive prayers of St Maria Goretti help but I stumble on ocassion, but I don’t give up.We cannot become Pharaisical in our condemnation of those who suffer SSA and we CANNOT drive these men and women, including priest who suffer SSA from the flock.Christ knows the Cross that they bear and we have to Simon of Cyrene and help carry that cross through love and prayer. Those of us who suffer from pedophilia(heteros)and ephebephilia(homos-shortened sense not derogative)shoild be removed from the proximatey of children, pubescent boys, and young men and watched very very closely. If that means humane permanent imprisonment,so be it.

Well, this topic has come up on several threads. If the answer is “because being gay in and of itself doesn’t make a priest a threat to children” then what we have is NOT a homosexual problem.

I am mystified by those who would say the problem is homosexuality but not see ridding the priesthood of homosexuals part of the solution.

I am not convinced this is a homosexual problem.

The truth is coming out and hurting - look at the reaction to this article

Some of the problem was caused by male priests abusing boys, so get rid of all homosexual priests.

Some of the problem was caused by male priests abusing girls, so get rid of all heterosexual priests.

Hmmm. I think I see a small problem with that solution.

How about: The problem was caused by abusive priests so get rid of all abusive priests and stop sheltering them.

As in so many cases it is not so much the initial crime but the cover-up afterwards that is the problem. Many large organisations have a small proportion of abusers. The current issue is largely about how that small proportion of abusers were dealt with inside the Church.

Because ( I will pay for this thought) if they did that, how many priests would we have left? Excuse my ignorance, but how does anyone know if any priest is really homosexual or not? Priests know upon entering the seminary that they are called to celibacy. Doesn’t matter what their persuasion is. Gay seminarians might have mastered the cover up of who they really are…just a thought.

I agree that it’s not a homosexual problem in the sense that homosexuality is not the reason why these men abused.

However, are you willing to accept the fact that at least some of these men were probably homosexual…sick homosexuals, but homosexual nevertheless?

Absolutely! Listen, the bishop who accepted me into the Church was gay and so was the one who sent me to seminary. (Both resigned in disgrace for sexaul acts with minor males.) My first and second vocation directors were not only both gay, they were both sexually active with other priests. (As an adult convert from the Southern Baptist Church, I was more than a little scandalized by this.) I’ve lived in rectories with priests who viewed gay porn on their computers, went to gay bars, and had ‘priest friends’ (-from other Dioceses) come spend several days in their rooms.

I think a gay man can be a good priest but I also know from experience that a gay man can be a faithless priest too. One of the saddest things about Palm Beach (-the Diocese where I live and the one I spent five years studying for) is that several priests were railroaded out of the Diocese by priests who a) disliked their theology and b) cozied up to whatever bishop was new and innocent (-during my first five years as a Catholic, I had four bishops: Symons, O’Connell, O’Malley, and Barbarito) and had the run of the chancery. No complaint about any of them, however valid, went anywhere; anyone they disliked–and sometimes it was for something as honorable as rejecting the pass of a gay priest by a seminarian or a priest from elsewhere who just blew his chance for incardination–was soon ‘in the wind.’

I don’t know how widespread the ‘lavender mafia’ is, but there’s a lot of reality in this Diocese to back up that charge.

I have suggested that an Inquisition be conducted by the Dominicans and some thought I was being Facetious or humouress;I’m entirely serious. If the Church has the resources to investigate American nuns-She can investigate all priests world wide.Stop with the finger in the dike approach,we’re flooded anyway.Tear down the Dike and build another. If the "Lavender Mafia"and by that I mean homosexual priests who cannot or willnot control themselves are run out of town on a rail, the seminaries will be flooded by sincere holy young men.My own son is considering the priesthood and if his vocation is sound I,ME,MYSELF,will conduct my own personal investigation of that particular seminary.

Your story makes me sick to my stomach. I hope I don’t view every priest I see now in this light.

I’m not clear on if you were studying for the priesthood there.

We need a lot of prayer.

Blech. This is disgusting. Even if the behavior involves consenting adults only - whether it is homosexual or heterosexual - going to bars; viewing pornography; having relationships with other religious; getting rid of more ethical people who raise questions about one issue or another, and finding a network of friends that is closed to opposing views is just gross.

I’d find this disgusting whether the behavior was heterosexual (for example, relationships w/nuns) or homosexual. either way they are making a mockery out of the commitment to be celibate.
