I pray that if you are a clinical psychologist that you are not practicing for the sake of gullible patients that might be on the verge of suicide. Enough said…![]()

Are you saying my post is without merit just because I’m also a psychologist?Somehow…“psychology” and “satan” just don’t mix well. Psychology is a “science”…“satan” is a theological concept with no discernable basis in 'science" or fact.
Not at all…as a pychologist “satan” has no place in “science”…the sciences and religious beliefs tend to be at odd with one another. One cannot base their scientifiic hypothosis on “satanic influence”…it simply is outside the realm of science…some religious beliefs have no place for a "satan ".Are you saying my post is without merit just because I’m also a psychologist?
I’m skeptical of the CCC when it mixes ‘science’ with theology, so I tend to agree with you. As a former research psychologist, I have lost a lot of respect for science. Not at all…as a pychologist “satan” has no place in “science”…the sciences and religious beliefs tend to be at odd with one another. I fall on the other side of the spectrum…I have lost a lot of respect for any “religious belief” that reduces the human condition to “satanic influence”.I’m skeptical of the CCC when it mixes ‘science’ with theology, so I tend to agree with you. It doesn’t help gay people, that’s for sure. It also doesn’t help their families, but then I’m not sure that’s really too much of a concern.I’ve never been addicted to porn or masturbation. And have absolutely no interest in the opposite gender.
I have to admit, I’m not too thrilled at the idea that I was seduced by satan as a child. Frankly, if I read that 15 years ago when I was still struggling with what to do with my attraction, this would have really messed with my head. I don’t know what causes it, but I must agree with DexUK (I think) that this sort of speculation doesn’t really help anyone.
That is because as a society we don’t scold women for getting with other women. In fact, some guys are attracted to that and encourage women to do it. If a guy does it however he pays a heavy price and will be tormented until the day he dies. Social isolation will definitely make a guy think twice.Coming late to the discussion so apologize for not reading every post. You make an EXCELLENT point here and one that comports with my experience with some homosexuals who were very candid with me about their porn habits. As you noted straight porn has very graphic images of sexually aroused males and the focus of the porn is very much on the male rather than the female for obvious reasons (outdoor plumbing so to speak). There is also the fantasy of having an experience with a straight man…converting him as it were over to the dark side.
I do agree with your OP regarding some homosexuality being learned or patterned into individuals due to particular experiences. Like fetishes or rituals or sadly attrraction to youngsters, once the brain is patterned to become aroused by specific stimuli, it doesn’t change that easily. Pattern a young man to be stimulated by images of males and you can see where that road could lead.
I am curious, as psychologist, do you agree with the theory that female sexuality is far more changable than male sexuality? My belief and that of a Rabbi who has weighed in on the subject is that females can move back and forth more easily than males, although I have certainly seen males who have engaged in both hetero and homosexuality.

I can relate to that…I fall on the other side of the spectrum…I have lost a lot of respect for any “religious belief” that reduces the human condition to “satanic influence”.
Meltz,What does the need to survive in prison have to do with the need for sex on the part of the inmate who initiates sexual activity? Are you implying that if he does not initiate activity, he will become the unwilling recipient?

Religion is as much a part of the psychological make up of some people that it has to be incorporated into their psychology but that does not necessarily translate to something that applies to all…In the 1960s, more psychological-mindedness was entering programs of pastoral counseling, and more thinking about the role of spirituality was penetrating humanistic psychology. Writings about Zen Buddhism and Psychoanalysis helped, and also psychedelic experiences by people who were otherwise fairly clear thinkers. Jung’s psychology became more relevant, and Houston Smith and Joseph Campbell were building bridges between comparative religion, mythology, and psychology.

Is heterosexuality a learned behaviour in your world view?Sex gratification is a very powerful reinforcer. Importantly, It doesn’t take climax to influence our next actions. Even little pleasures reinforce strongly. Our imagination can even slowly reinforce attraction by fueling arousal.
As the world shows there is a whole panoply of how people engage in sex. We know from perhaps our own marriage that together we can learn how to make our spouse respond well…and our spouse can help us learn how to reach climax in a pleasing way.
Young boys learn how to masturbate, how to use their imagination, etc.
Sexual response is trained and learned, and influenced by a huge set of variables.
If homosexuality is purely genetic, with no learned component…what about bestiality, necropolia, threesomes, adulterers, exhibitionists, the whole world of perversion?
It’s highly leaned…and it’s learned in very small incremental ways…supported by a will.
Of course, reinforced with enormous complementarity. That’s why God designed the parts to fit.Is heterosexuality a learned behaviour in your world view?

I don’t need to invent and bandy about inflated overused pseudointellectual words, when old ones work just fine.
If you need to do that, please feel free.
