Homosexuality is learned.

Sexual response is trained and learned, and influenced by a huge set of variables.
If homosexuality is purely genetic, with no learned component…what about bestiality, necropolia, threesomes, adulterers, exhibitionists, the whole world of perversion?
It’s highly leaned…and it’s learned in very small incremental ways…supported by a will.
I think that would make for a very interesting discussion about the abstract psychology behind such things, however I think that the content of the discussion could be significantly inappropriate for a public forum such as this one, in particular where people of a sensitive disposition could be present.

No doubt.

But how many identical threads are created each week on this site? If concepts such as “little reinforcements”, imagination, learning can’t be introduced (neither of which is lacking in refinement) then the meat of this matter won’t be worked through. Instead we stay at the most superficial level of nuture yes, nurture no; nature yes, nature no.

I certainly understand where you are coming from but the point is worth considering. From a secular standpoint people can argue chaos and make a case for it. Biologically speaking I have heard that men just want to spread seed (adultery) and when women are ovulating their libido increases and they want to find the best seed (adultery). It would only make sense for women to have as many partners as possible and may the best man get the egg you know? If you only rationalized based on biology then you might as well throw out all 10 of the Ten Commandments. We would essentially be pure animals governed only by our impulses.

The difference however is that human beings have HIGHER reasoning and are capable of understanding God’s design in a way the pure animals can’t. When we deny this capability we are denying God. As Ben Parker said, “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Many people with SSA have had opposite sex spouses and kids in the past. If it is true as they say that you love the person and not their genitals then why do homosexuals have a problem marrying a person of the opposite sex? Is there not 1 lovable woman in the world that a gay man could not find interest in? Is there not 1 lovable man that a lesbian could not find favor in?

It just seems to me every argument in favor of gay marriage could be used against it. That is why I don’t think it is logical.

What experts? Probably those in psychology who cater to social norms. Much of psychology is a sham. I know, I’m a retired research psychologist who worked with ‘experts’ who draw their conclusions before their study!!! They get very upset and will fire the statistician who comes up with finding counter to their hypotheses.
Can you please provide the journal references for the studies you designed or participated in? I would be most curious to look up your publications. Statasticians don’t “come up with findings”, they assess data gathered from studies. Not that studies can’t be flawed, but your apparent lack of understanding about the scientific process and publications is a bit startling from a retired research “professional”.

Is heterosexuality a learned behaviour in your world view?
Publisher,

The notion that there is instinct in all behavior is discounted here…

Let me give you a few examples: I think that they fall into four categories. There are concepts that we now know simply are not true: Fixed Action Patterns fall into this category. Fixed action patterns were a concept from the early days of ethology, mid-20th-century, in which animals were thought to display some behaviors that were absolutely of genetic origin, the classic “hard-wired”
There are concepts that are sort-of, basically true but that we now know are far more complicated, and thus the original terms and concepts simply don’t do the job any more: the Nature vs. Nurture dichotomy falls into this category (as do many dichotomies: the world is not a black and white place). This issue is related to the concept of the fixed action pattern, but this one has taken longer to die. Why? It’s the caveat about being kinda, sorta right. But here the point is that it is not a dichotomy. No matter where we look, it’s a continuum, from highly genetically controlled (but never entirely: see point above) to virtually entirely environmental, what we in applied animal behavior would call ‘learned’, but again, never without a genetic component to the behavior.
I pointed that out in the thread…Those Homosexual Animals…as many unlearned and poorly oriented take the route of…“look at the animals”…

There are many world views…

On this CAF the view is, Male and Female He created them and He created them for a purpose…and in creating them Male and Female they learn how to behave…and in behaving some learn to behave well and others learn to behave poorly…

There is no such thing, in my opinion as a created Homosexual…for that notion exists apart from my world view shared by those that adhere to the teachings of the OHCAC…and that is based on Humani Generous…I can believe anything I want, including Evolution…as long as I don’t deny Adam and Eve…or Male and Female He created them…and any Catholic that accepts other than this is not in line with the thinking of Humani Generous…

You are not required to accept this…Catholics are…👍

Whew!!! At least you stated it was opinion…and “opinion” doesn’t equate to 'moraltity"…you have the feeedom to “opinon”…on this we agree friend.

and here you outline Social Constructionism with the end result of the Gay agenda that sex is nothing more than what we do to or have done for us without any stability…just sex for sex…because if the Society did not dictate the need for what we have now then the LGBT agenda would have it otherwise…you will hear this agenda by some that claim to be Christian, in particular some with Anglican persuasion claiming “God Willing”…and all Grace is God…clouding their agenda with what appears to be theology…

Publisher,

Who defines Morality?

That is because as a society we don’t scold women for getting with other women. In fact, some guys are attracted to that and encourage women to do it. If a guy does it however he pays a heavy price and will be tormented until the day he dies. Social isolation will definitely make a guy think twice.

Also I think I know what studies you are referring to and they have been largely debunked after the New York Times ran away with them. They also showed women are aroused by monkey doing it. Clearly, I don’t think women are more prone to beastiality.
Really? I didn’t think Lesbians suffered less stigma than Gays (to use the common terms differentiating male and female homosexuals). Also didn’t know about any studies with or without monkeys. I think the point was that for females affection and emotional closeness is very important and thus a female may be oriented to other women who provide the sort of emotional support and “cuddling” that she might find as important as a sexual encounter with a male. IOW I think sexuality in females is more fluid and less fixed, once established. I have seen a number of males transition from heterosexuality to homosexuality and while some have continued to have occasional relationships with women they are more fixed in orientation. Females seem to do a bit of experimenting with homosexuality such as during college and the end up marrying a man.

As to your comment that homosexual males are “tormented until the day they die” how utterly ridiculous. Are you talking about 50 years ago? Homosexuals are everywhere from Anderson Cooper to Ellen. They are hardly being “tormented.”

I’m talking about by their friends. Have you ever heard what a group of guys say about gays? They sure aren’t saying the same thing about lesbians. How many girls have you heard take their life because someone found out they were lesbians? I can’t think of any but in the last year I recall at least 2 guys taking their life because someone found out they were gay. Check this link out:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16168255

If movies and animals could arouse women I don’t think the theory about emotions holds true. Its more so a cultural issue and the message that women who master their sexuality are powerful bodes well for a group that is often seen as “powerless.”

I have heard it said, that homosexuality comes from the son not having a good relationship with his father, and also he is looking for the male relation he did noy get from his father in other men , and also the Mother being to dominant in her son life.:::
Meh… I have two friends who are twins. Their biological father was not around when they were younger. One revealed the fact that he was gay afew years ago, the other is completely stright. At the same time, I had a friend in highschool who was pretending to be stright but later revealed that he was gay. His Older brother is also gay and is now a transexual. I think it is all more complex than just A and B results in C.

Lisa, I think you’re both right and wrong. I think women suffer less stigma for being gay than men; however, I also believe their sexuality is more linked to their emotions and possibly more fluid. (I hope this is not just another gender stereotype.) There are women who may live together as “roommates” later in life without much disapproval of society. Some of these women, perhaps widows, are even encouraged by developmental psychologists to have “semi-homosexual” relationships to help them cope emotionally, such as cuddling (as you state). I can’t imagine the same kind of relationship between two basically straight men. The latter can’t even dance together or hold hands in most cultures without raising suspicions.

No, I will not reveal any of my studies, but I will say that I have several publications and did all my academic training at UCLA, which has one of the best psychology programs in the world. I’ve done research for the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Center, the Los Angles Sheriffs Department, and the RAND Corporation (a public policy think tank involving the CIA and the Air Force). I was way, way up there, but due to an inner voice, I traded it all to become a devout Catholic. I threw all my degrees in the trash bin and sold all my books in psychology and law. It was the best trade I ever made!

I worked as a research psychologist with personality as a major and statistics as a minor.

I’m really not Dr Robert Sock, so searching for it will get you nowhere.

No it says and other predetermined qualities as a catch all. This is your only needed resource at the moment. The Church says that if a gene is predetermined at fertilization we should keep our hands off. If a gene exists that predetermines homosexuality then we must not " for the dignity of the individual" manipulate it.

So the question is…does a gay “gene” exist?
Is it found in animals ?

Sorry none of this makes any sense at all nor does it relate to the thread. I believe for some homosexuals, the behavior is learned and ingrained by repetition just as is any pleasure cycle. We tend to de what rewards us mentally or emotionally or physically. Sexual desire and pleasure is a strong drive, made more strong by the constant barrage of the media, advertising, music, educational curricula (“Sex Week” anyone?) and just walking by a storefront. The repeated stimuli IMO makes sex into something of a false god to be sought and worshipped, starting at younger and younger ages. The impact of these constant images has to be substantial…and not to the benefit of the parties involved or society at large.

Thankyou Meltzerboy, I believe you are a professional in this area so I appreciate your insight. This is certainly borne out with my own experience with gays and Lesbians. Many of the latter are either put off or frightened by men and the sameness of another female, the similar emotional response, and the non-threatening persona of females in general can morph into a situational Lesbian experience. It’s well known that at all female colleges there is a lot of “experimenting” during that period of time but most of the women end up marrying men. OTOH two male college roommates who are straight “going gay” I suggest not a chance.
