Where have I advocated violence against active homosexuals? That’s right, I haven’t.
Where have I said that you adovated such things? That’s right; I didn’t. Don’t be so bloody defensive.
The Catechism clearly states that living a homosexual lifestyle, specifically engaging in homosexual sex is a sin:

That’s great. The Catechism says… You know what? Non-Catholics don’t care what the Catechism says and they don’t have to. We are talking about public schools, as in: schools with no religious affiliation or agenda. I have do doubt that many on these boards who want to see the schools preach Catholic values and teach according to “the Catechism says” would be in an absolute tizzy if the Muslims wanted all children taught according to “the Quaaran says.”

sighs wistfully Was a time…Was a time when the only schooling anyone got was from the Church…sigh I’m nostalgic for a time I never lived in!!!

I’d prefer it if rather than simply pressing the secularist world view, and nothing but, they would show ALL sides of an issue.

So no ‘tizzies’ here. If you’re gonna teach, you ought teach, and show the topic from every view and angle, and through every lense.

How the heck are we supposed to interact with the rest of the world if the only thing we’ve been exposed to is home grown secularist thought?

Please don’t swear at me.

As a citizen of this country, which you are apparently not (given your use of the term “bloody” which is not an American term), we have a right to make our concerns heard. My taxes pay for these books that are thrust upon our children. Our schools should spend more time teaching our children to read and write properly and less public money on indoctrinating children with the homosexual agenda. Have you seen the literacy rates of this nation? “Public education” is paid for by all citizens. We have a voice in how our money is spent. Children in Kindergarten don’t fully understand how babies are made. Why on earth do they need to know that John doesn’t like Mary, he likes George? Kindergarten used to be a place to learn ABCs and how to use scissors and play with clay.

And forget that old adage about not discussing religion and politics with your neighbors/family/friends. Let your voice be heard. It may start a revolution to protect real Catholic values.
And if you think it can’t be done, then you haven’t made a real effort. I like the voters’ guide on Faithful Catholic citizenship from Catholic answers. Worth checking out.
Almost everyone who comes into our shop loves to talk religion/politics, so I have a great opportunity to share my opinions as well. There is very little support among my clients for the homosexual lifestyle . Most still find it abnormal and won’t ever “accept” it as normal behavior. And I’ve never heard anyone say they hope their child is a homosexual.

Seems to me the homosexual lobby has already taken over Congress and many of the courts. It’s about to take over the White House as well. It took the mainstream media long ago. I don’t think we have even begun to see how strongly the homosexual agenda is going to be forced on the American people, and very soon.
I agree. The Scriptures are right when it says that good will be considered evil and evil will be considered good. Look how virginity is mocked while promiscuity is praised. 😦

And I’ve never heard anyone say they hope their child is a homosexual.
To be fair, I don’t think you will find many homosexuals who hoped that they themselves would be attracted to the same sex.

And I agree, it is horrible how our media teaches young men that promiscuity makes you manly, and teaches women that promiscuity with the aid of birth control allows them to be more free. It is disgusting, and the source of many, many of our social problems. Parents need to be urged to be sure and teach their children what it truly means to be a man or a woman.

Training children to be tolerant?! Nooooo! We mustn’t do that. The fact of the matter is that public schools are not supposed to teach from a religious standpoint. And thank God for that! I’m glad that the public schools are doing their best to promote tolerance of diversity in small children, even in the face of parents who think otherwise. If one wants his or her child exposed only to his or her worldview, than one should either homeschool that child or find a school that teaches those views. How about not holding the entire school system hostage to the religious camps?
Excuse me but shouldn’t tolerance go both ways? Why is it so one-sided? Lest we forget, this is a religious world created by God FOR God. He has set the “norms” and homosexual acts are not normal by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone knows this. A honest person would at least admit that he knows this but just doesn’t care what God thinks about it. “Everyone did what was right in their own eyes”.

Legalizing sodomy is one of the most cruel things our society has done (abortion being the worst). Sodomy has killed a lot of people. Almost my whole department was wiped out in the 80s by AIDS as most of my co-workers engaged in homosexual acts. They were my friends and I’m angry that they were encouraged to “live it up” and ended up dying for it.

We are on a slippery slope. I’m sure in a few more years someone will be demanding the right to marry their dog. 🤷

To be fair, I don’t think you will find many homosexuals who hoped that they themselves would be attracted to the same sex.
I understand what you’re saying, but I was making a different point. When people say that they don’t see anything wrong with homosexuality, I ask them if they would prefer that their child be homosexual rather than heterosexual. They always say “no”. My question is that if they think it’s normal, why wouldn’t they WANT their child to be homosexual.

There is no consensus on how one becomes homosexual, whether born or bred, but we do know how God views homosexual acts, so the best we can do is help each other be our best for God. All of us are born with differing propensities for sin, so we must master our passions for Christ’s sake. And with his help it can be done.

Please don’t swear at me.
Wasn’t aware I had done.
As a citizen of this country, which you are apparently not (given your use of the term “bloody” which is not an American term),
Did you trip jumping to that conclusion? As a matter of interest, I hold dual citizenship. So yes, in fact, I am a citizen of this country.
Our schools should spend more time teaching our children to read and write properly and less public money on indoctrinating children with the homosexual agenda.
The problem is that while the children are learning to read and write, they are doing so in a room full of different people from different backgrounds. It is inevitable that they should have to learn to deal with one another. Unfortunately, parents often do a poor job of teaching social skills, citizenship (ha) etc… and that is true on both sides of the pond I’m afraid. It is therefore left to the schools to teach these things, lest chaos reign supreme.
Have you seen the literacy rates of this nation?
Yes, I have. Apalling. 😦
“Public education” is paid for by all citizens. We have a voice in how our money is spent.
Indeed. WE have a voice. That means that all points of view are heard. Ideally, the schools would teach every viewpoint as another poster suggested, but I think most intelligent people can see the practical problems with that, given that there are only so many hours in the day. I much prefer the “secular humanism” taught today than the protestant-leaning unicultural approach of years past.
Children in Kindergarten don’t fully understand how babies are made. Why on earth do they need to know that John doesn’t like Mary, he likes George?
Because Timmy, who has just joined the class, has two fathers named John and George. When the other 20 pupils have parents named John and Mary, they are going to wonder why Johnny’s family is different.
Kindergarten used to be a place to learn ABCs and how to use scissors and play with clay.
And now it is a place where standardized testing and anti-bullying lectures are the norm. The public schools are in a shambles, to be sure. But the alleged “homosexual agenda” is hardly the problem.

My question is that if they think it’s normal, why wouldn’t they WANT their child to be homosexual.
Probably because they know what lies ahead for homosexual people as far as society is concerned. 😦

Wasn’t aware I had done.
I’m sure you’re aware that “bloody” is offensive.
Did you trip jumping to that conclusion? As a matter of interest, I hold dual citizenship. So yes, in fact, I am a citizen of this country.
Sarcasm adds nothing to your comment.
The problem is that while the children are learning to read and write, they are doing so in a room full of different people from different backgrounds. It is inevitable that they should have to learn to deal with one another.
Children at 5 do not have a sexual identity. So, a child in Kindergarten does not need to learn about homosexuality to relate to classmates. Other than for indoctrination purposes, there is no reason to prey on children this young and thrust the issue of same-sex attraction on them. Johnny may grow up to be a porn star or an abortionist, too. Shall provide the children with books on pornography and take them to an abortion clinic to learn how to abort a baby so they can relate to Johnny in the future, too?
Unfortunately, parents often do a poor job of teaching social skills, citizenship (ha) etc… and that is true on both sides of the pond I’m afraid. It is therefore left to the schools to teach these things, lest chaos reign supreme.
It is more important that a child learn to read fluently and write at a competent level than that they spend time being indoctrinated with the homosexual agenda. This is not what schools should be concerning themselves with. Costs are cut for education and so music, art and sports programs are canceled, but somehow the homosexual lessons are solidly in place. God forbid funding should be cut for homosexual education time. Can someone please explain this to me? It’s absurd.
Why do any viewpoints have to be heard on homosexuality? If religion has no place in school and all viewpoints are not heard, why in the world should I support “all viewpoints” on homosexuality being taught? This issue is a waste of time and funds. Let’s put the funding back where it belongs, into investing in children’s education in the core subjects.
Because Timmy, who has just joined the class, has two fathers named John and George. When the other 20 pupils have parents named John and Mary, they are going to wonder why Johnny’s family is different.
Let the other 20 children’s parents explain it to them on their own terms in their own ways.
And now it is a place where standardized testing and anti-bullying lectures are the norm. The public schools are in a shambles, to be sure. But the alleged “homosexual agenda” is hardly the problem.
It’s hardly the solution either.

The two openly homosexual members of the U.S. House of Representatives have recruited 50 of their colleagues to officially join them in promoting the homosexual agenda in Congress.

Just what is this “homosexual agenda”? I have many gay friends, and they have no idea what it is when I ask them about it.

Probably because they know what lies ahead for homosexual people as far as society is concerned. 😦
Baloney! Homosexuals are the toast of the town nowadays. It’s because they know deep down that it is a disordered lifestyle.

Baloney! Homosexuals are the toast of the town nowadays.
I hear this frequently, and I am sure it is the case in some places. However, I have yet to find one of those places. I think it’s just the loud liberals who may cause certain places to give off this impression. In actuality though, these people are not the majority (from what I have seen at least). It only seems to be the media who toasts gay relationships. The average person though does not seem to have given themselves away to such positions. Please know that I am certainly not trying to defend homosexual acts or liberal agendas, I’m just trying to add what I know to the conversation:) .

As much as everyone protests that they don’t advocate violence against gays, the attitude that gays are disordered whether or not they are active does contribute to it. It makes them lesser beings who don’t deserve to be treated the same way as others. Gays are the enemy, they “aren’t like us”. All these messages repeated over and over create a climate where it’s ok to beat up a gay person, or it’s ok to harass them because “they aren’t like us anyway” so they don’t matter.

From the National Crime Victims website:
Although the prevalence of anti-gay and lesbian violence is not fully known on a national scale, studies are providing detailed statistics on its possible extent:
Anti-gay and lesbian incidents increased 8 percent from 1999 to 2000. Serious injuries resulting from these incidents decreased by forty-one percent (Moore, 2001).
In 1999, the FBI reported that there were 1,317 incidents of violence based on sexual orientation. Of those, anti-male homosexuality violence characterized sixty-nine percent of the incidents (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2000).
Approximately one-half of perpetrators are age twenty-one or younger. (Comstock, 1991).
A campus survey reported that 61 percent of the gay/lesbian respondents feared for their safety as their orientation would be used as a reason for violence. (Herek, Berrill, 1992).
And from our Holy Father:
‘It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the church’s pastors wherever it occurs. It reveals a kind of disregard for others which endangers the most fundamental principles of a healthy society. The intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law.

find out here

I can see the humor, but it’s a bit mean-spirited, making fun of homophobes. It’s like taunting an alcoholic with beer.

BTW, saying that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered, is not saying that it’s OK to beat them up. The Church makes it very clear that they should not be singled out for discrimination. It makes it clear that they are sinners like the rest of us, and should be treated with compassion.

And if they remain celibate, they are no more guilty than a celibate single heterosexual.

Much less “mean spirited” than the things I’ve read on this forum concerning gay people.

I like the idea one Friend expressed about the “gay agenda”

The Gay Agenda

What exactly is the point of being Catholic, if you are not willing to believe fully in what the Church teaches? As much as you’d like to make light of it, it’s clear that the homosexual agenda is to make the living out of the homosexual lifestyle socially acceptable. To believe that allowing this to happen is in some way "loving and tolerant’ is foolish. Truly loving these people would include firmly stating that the homosexual lifestyle is sinful and counter to God’s plan. I’ve known enough homosexual people to have concluded that they are, generally, very generous and compassionate people who also have severe drug and alcohol problems and other compulsive, destructive behavioral disorders. In short, they were not “happy”. Living out the homosexual lifestyle is not going to make them happy. We, as Catholics know that, as will all sin, it will only bring them more unhappiness and lead them further away from God.
