Homosexuals brainwashing our children in elementary schools

I am going to College to be an Elementary school teacher and have one year left. In the Public School realm of things, I see why people would want to “teach” children about homosexuals. HOWEVER, I would NEVER show a video or even talk to my students about this.
The reason this has become so big especially in elementary schools, is now children are growing up with two mommies and two dadies, well what happens when a first grader draws a picture of their family, and another child says “you have two moms?”.
The point certain states are trying to make is to teach children what that means… However, I do not think this is something that should be brought up until atleast 5th grade.
**One of my college professors had asked us what we will do if someone in the classroom asks how that can happen. **I think it depends on the age. K and 1st grade, you can probably be able to say, some people have moms and dads, some have 2 dads and 2 moms, as children get older however the question of how may arise, but I’m not exactly sure when children start questioning about sex?
Anyways for children this is a question that can be brought up, but I think it is up to the parents to talk to their children about it.
As an elementary classroom teacher (13 years, music, K-5), I can tell you that it will come up. Either you will have a student with two moms or two dads, or you will have students bring up the topic, usually in a derogatory context in my school 😦 (I mean, they are cruel and mocking.)

My response, at any elementary age, has always been “Different families have different beliefs; you should talk with your parents about this.” If children are making fun of people, either real or imagined, I firmly remind them that in my classroom they are not allowed to make fun of other people, even if those people aren’t in the room with us.

Public school teachers have no right to “educate” their students about homosexuality, or religion, or politics, or where babies come from (outside of the reproduction science classes)…

In response to your professor’s question, tell him you’ll keep your classroom a “no making fun of others zone” and let their parents teach the rest. To do more is to cross professional boundaries.

God bless your studies!

I am all for teaching kids to be charitable toward everybody, even when there is something about them that makes them different; this includes homosexuals. Let’s face it, what mouthy ten year old boy hasn’t called something he doesn’t like “so gay”?

This however, is not the way to do it.

That isn’t what schools are for. My schools never discussed homosexuality, and most of us are not homophobes.

My son is ten and never says that quote…He doesn’t even know what “gay” is…

I don’t believe that homosexuality contradicts any natural laws. Can you prove that it contradicts any natural laws that actually exist, or is this merely your opinion?

Claiming that something is not arguable does not make it so. And I don’t think even Catholicism teaches that procreation is the sole purpose of intercourse.
How would you know anything about Catholicism?..you don’t believe in God…Why would Catholicism interest you at all…just to insult us?

Different people engage in it for different purposes. I do not think that the universe has decreed that it is to be done for only one purpose.
Ok - suppose we all decide to do it for another purpose. What happens over time?

? I didn’t imply that anyone who wasn’t given some instruction about accepting homosexuals was bound to become homophobic. What’s wrong with a teacher teaching his/her students to be charitable toward all people, including homosexuals? Say a teacher catches one of his students using the word “gay” as a pejorative and uses it as a teaching moment. Is he in the wrong? I’m confused…

The phrase I used was “mouthy ten year old”, this is not to imply that all ten year olds including your son are mouthy and use pejoratives.

You know, I took a break from this forum because of this kind of behavior, ie. people reading things into my posts that were the furthest thing from my mind (amongst other things). I think I’m going to take another break…

All humans have dignity and should be treated respectfully. So teachers need to correct students without prejudice if a student steps over the line. Not a protected new class mind you but each and every instance of bullying or name calling.

Then the teacher should stop and not try to justify homosexuality. Students should be told to discuss this with their parents. Parents are the first teachers not the government run schools.

When a child is using the word, as in “that’s so gay” they may not even know it refers to homosexuality. Most do not even know what sex is much less the homosexual act.

A teacher should not automatically react with a lecture about homosexuality and how we have to accept their behavior.

Imagine my surprise when my PRE-SCHOOLER came home and told me that women can marry women, and men can marry men. It’s fine and dandy if people who can understand such concepts would like to have a discussion about that topic… But why is my daughter, who isn’t even in Elementary school, coming home and sharing this with me?

(PS: No I am not a supporter of gay-marriage, despite my non-Christian stance.)

Luckily she goes to Elementary school this month!

Activists please stay out of the affairs of my family. THANKS!

Sorry - you have lost control over this. Mother government has determined your child be subject to their propaganda.

Are you saying it’s impossible for an atheist to know anything about religion?

As far as why I come to this site, I think the main reason is that I find philosophy really interesting. I like looking at the arguments for and against the existence of God. I also try to understand other people’s point of view. This site helps me understand why people believe the things that they do. And no, I did not come here to insult you.

Sorry, you’re right, you can know about religion even though you don’t believe…I have a hard time understanding how people can’t believe in God, but I know everyone has different views…I should not have said that…sorry…😦

I think you are reading into my post…i was just giving an example I had in my life…my son can be mouthy, he just doesn’t know that particular word…I do shelter my kids a little…sorry if you took it that way…:o

Well, what’s wrong with a teacher catching his students using the word “gay” as in a homosexual and teaching them that it means happy? If you’re going to go that way, you have to go all the way. Words evolve over time and meanings change.

No problem. I didn’t take offense. 🙂

I wasn’t saying that we should abandon procreation as a reason for intercourse. I was just saying that people can do it for other purposes. For example, intercourse can strengthen the marital bond. It can also give people pleasure. It’s not like we need to pick one purpose and decree that people can only have sex for that purpose.

Again, that is pretty much covered in the articles I linked.
