Not at all. A very valuable framer? Yes. Heck, he’s the father of the Constitution! But to take his quotes and apply them to today’s world without considering, oh 200 years worth of changes to the constitution, thousands of Supreme Court and other federal court decisions, historical context, the political struggles of the time, and the compromises that Madison made isn’t conducive to a discussion about the role of the federal government in hurricane Sandy relief.
I don’t agree with him on most things, but I have the utmost respect for his willingness to break with his party to do what he thinks is best for his state. I don’t always agree with him, in fact I rarely do, but he’s a good man and a responsible governor.
You’re probably right but I hope the words of the founders of the Constitution are at least a little better to quote than those of Nancy Pelosi! (And I’m a Democrat.)

Isn’t that why Nixon took the US off the gold standard? We simply didn’t have enough gold (at $35 an ounce) to pay our bills, so we’re sort of “winging it” and hope they trust our inflated paper.
He would most definitely have a chance as an independent - it’s high time the centrists of this country organized and used their clout, IMO. I’d vote for him as an independent candidate.

Amen…the media has become a convenient excuse for the GOP’s lack of success on the national level. If that is the case, then how have they managed to claim so many state houses and governorships? How’d they get the house? How did Bush get elected twice?
