Is this a teaching of the Church? I never heard of the demonic influence being strong at the hour of death.

Perhaps interacting badly with others is a rejection of God, whether people know it or not.I’m not sure about the examples you give regarding rejecting G-d and therefore, possibly, going to hell. It seems to me every one of them, except perhaps having a huge ego, involves using one’s reason to reject G-d. Do you think, and does the Church believe, that not understanding G-d and therefore rejecting Him, or reasoning in terms of the problem of evil, or having a problem with organized religion, mean that one is likely, if not absolutely, going to hell? Why would G-d give us the power of reason and then punish us for using it (even if we use it incorrectly)?
I think the rejection of G-d that may land one in hell is more likely the outcome of our behavior in the world and our interactions with others than a lack of faith based on reason. Maybe this is not the way the Church sees it, but, to me, this is a more reasonable approach.
Judging from the obesity epidemic, gluttony would appear to be neck-and-neck with lust for most popular capital sin, at least here in the USA.many people these days have no self control. This applies to all aspects of life, but it seems to be most present in lust, and acts of lust.
… 1. In order to wholly love someone, don’t you need to fully know them? And 2. If someone fully knew and understood the goodness of Heaven (and God, if that is possible), why would they choose Hell?

302 Creation has its own goodness and proper perfection, but it did not spring forth complete from the hands of the Creator. The universe was created “in a state of journeying” (in statu viae) toward an ultimate perfection yet to be attained, to which God has destined it. We call “divine providence” the dispositions by which God guides his creation toward this perfection:
By his providence God protects and governs all things which he has made, “reaching mightily from one end of the earth to the other, and ordering all things well”. For “all are open and laid bare to his eyes”, even those things which are yet to come into existence through the free action of creatures.161
A lot of the obesity epidemic is due to the amount of sugar and fat in the food being offered, especially the cheap food and fast food that’s accessible to people in lower socioeconomic classes, and not necessarily that people are consuming large meals. There are plenty of poor people with limited food budgets who can’t afford large meals but are nevertheless obese because the meal choices they make, coupled with their own genetics, promote weight gain.Judging from the obesity epidemic, gluttony would appear to be neck-and-neck with lust for most popular capital sin, at least here in the USA.
Good question.Ok, I’m new to this website so if I’ve made any mistakes posting this I’m sorry!
If someone is given the option to live forever in Heaven with God and knows fully that Heaven is good, why would they choose Hell? I have heard that there are souls in Hell. And I know that in order to attain Heaven, you must freely choose God. 1. In order to wholly love someone, don’t you need to fully know them? And 2. If someone fully knew and understood the goodness of Heaven (and God, if that is possible), why would they choose Hell?
It’s a matter of pride. Pride opposes God and God opposes the proud, exalting the humble as Scripture tells us. Adam was the first human to assume this vice known as pride, preferring himself to God as the Catechism teaches, elevating himself to a level equal to or greater than God by denying His authority. This is to separate and alienate oneself from God, and God is heaven as Pope Emeritus Benedict put it in “Jesus of Nazareth”. And by virtue of that fact it’s to separate and elevate oneself above love which is the one quality that makes existence worthwhile, eternally.Ok, I’m new to this website so if I’ve made any mistakes posting this I’m sorry!
I’ve been Catholic for a while and am quite familiar with the faith. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my question across clearly, but I will try. Recently I’ve been wondering (and also felt quite distressed at this thought):
If someone is given the option to live forever in Heaven with God and knows fully that Heaven is good, why would they choose Hell? I have heard that there are souls in Hell. And I know that in order to attain Heaven, you must freely choose God. 1. In order to wholly love someone, don’t you need to fully know them? And 2. If someone fully knew and understood the goodness of Heaven (and God, if that is possible), why would they choose Hell?
I know that people go to Hell because they choose it over God. But anyone in their right minds (which is required to make a good/bad choice, right?) would choose good. So if there are people that live with an un-Christian lifestyle and don’t fully understand the concept of Heaven/Hell, would they still go to Hell? Wouldn’t your responsibility for doing something wrong be less? I have heard that we can’t fully know God. So how can we fully choose him?
I apologize if my question was lengthy, hard to understand, or jumbled into a bunch of smaller questions. I also apologize if any of the things I said were wrong. Please correct me if they are.
(I recently was very distressed at the thought of being separated from God forever or being in Heaven but having my family member(s) be in Hell. That’s when I wondered how and why someone could choose Hell, especially if we humans can’t possibly love God wholly and choose him. If I am wrong, let me know. This is just stuff I’ve heard from other sources. I am trying to understand and come to terms with my fears.)
Once again, thank you very much to anyone who read all of this, and sorry for the length of if I posted to the wrong place, etc. Prayers would be much appreciated for me and my family!![]()
This is frightening. I cannot imagine being at the point of death and having to contend with the father of lies and his minions. I pray constantly for the grace of final perseverance. My Dad witnessed a man, in the hospital, being demonically attacked on his deathbed. The man grabbed my Dad’s arm and pleaded for him to “Not let them take me”.
He flatlined and couldn’t be resuscitated. Personally, it sounds like there was a little fight going on over his soul. Thankfully, God is the judge and you cannot be dragged into Hell against your will.
