How Are "SDAs" Not In Harmony With The Apostles?

1/ Where does the Bible tell us to “celebrate Sunday” “in honor of the resurrection?” The Bible makes it clear that the Apostles kept the seventh day Sabbath. Therefore, Seventh-day Adventists in this particular, do indeed follow the Apostles.

?QUOTE]…the bible make it also very clear that the apostles and the followers had no private property among themselves…why do SDA’s have private property then?

LOL; I don’t have private property!! What a trivial post!! But thanks for a good laugh! 👍 I wonder if you can even show us where scripture says that?

Sola Scriptura itself is a departure from Apostolic Teaching. It isn’t even biblical itself! You would think, if the Bible were to be the sole authority, then it would say this about itself. 🤷
I understand that this is how your denomination teaches you to think; but that is just Catholic thinking - not Biblical thinking. You yourself just said that catholics do not believe in “the Bible only,” so not all Catholic, is Biblical. The proof comes right from your own mouth.

By The Bible Only: Sola Scriptura
A fundamental principle set forth by Scripture concerning itself is that the Bible alone is the final norm of truth, the primary and absolute source of authority, the ultimate court of appeal, in all areas of doctrine and practice. The classical text which expresses this basic premise is Isa 8:20 (NIV): To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. The two Hebrew words torah (Law) and tecudah (testimony) point to the two loci of authority in Isaiahs day which now constitute Holy Scripture: the Pentateuch (the Torah or Law of Moses) and the testimony of the prophets to the previously revealed will of God in the Torah.

Jesus summarized the two divisions of OT Scripture similarly when He referred to the Law and the prophets (Matt 5:17; 11:13; 22:40). The NT adds the authoritative revelation given by Jesus and His apostolic witnesses (see Eph 2:20; 3:5). The principle of sola Scriptura implies two corollaries: the primacy and the sufficiency of Scripture.

I would be curious to see official teachings and related coments on something another poster said about my denomination in another thread:

Why would this be true; and can you give some proof.
The SDA Church is founded by and upon their alleged prophetess, EGW. For this reason alone they are not founded upon the apostles.

The Acts of the Apostles 2:44"and all who beleieved where together and held ALL THINGS IN COMMON"…It most certainly is not trival for one who “claims” to follow the apostles exactly…where in scripture did one apostle ever mention trinity?i suggest you talk with oneness pentacostals, you may appreciate the true church a bit more…

Actually, you are wrong. I would like to see someone prove your statement. There are a lot of such claims about us, yet thats all they are. Unproven claims.
18. The Gift of Prophecy**:**
One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen. G. White . As the Lord’s messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction. They also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested.

(Joel 2:28, 29; Acts 2:14-21; Heb. 1:1-3; Rev. 12:17; 19:10.)
Our official beliefs do not support your falsehood.

I know what SDAs believe about EGW. I also know that what they say to non-SDAs about her and what they say among themselves about her are two completely different things.

Why am I not surprised?

See the letters of bishop Ignatius of antioch. Even today the church in Ethiopia observes the saturday sabbath.

Speaking as someone who has worked with resettling Ethiopian Christians, this is not true.

This website may help with one point.

Acts 20:7 shows that the first day of the week (the Lord’s day) was the day the Apostolic followers of Christ gathered. Do not forget that under Jewish custom, the day began with dusk the day before (in other words, Saturday night is Sunday)

To say that you follow the Apostles then say that Sunday worship is evil is to be wrong about one or the other.

You choose.

You need to get your facts straight, but you never will from anti-Adventist sites like this. They preach the doctrines of spiritualism.

I do not know why it would be wrong to worship on Sunday; for it is not wrong to worship our Lord on any day of the week. Seventh-day Adventists teach that the seventh day is “the Sabbath of the Lord thy God;” as does the Bible, and the Apostles. The Apostles gathered on many different days for many reasons - and when they gathered on Sunday - it had nothing to do with the Sabbath, or the change thereof.

Catholics try to escape the fact that their church is responsible for changing “the day of worship” to Sunday from Saturday, to the first day, instead of the seventh day. Even with the ones who do admit that the Catholic leadership decided that this change must take place can only offer the weak excuse about celebrating Sunday “in honor of the resurrection.” Yet, this is not Biblically correct. Click here to see how the Bible really tells us to celebrate the resurrection.

I will not deny that the Catholic CHurch began Sunday worship. Not at all. I will clearly state that SHE HAD THE AUTHORITY to do so. If she did not, then YOU HAVE NOTHING to show from the time of Christ. The Scriptures are organised based on CAtholic teaching, so throw the Bible right out. The Trinity is defined by Catholic Council, so get rid of it. I can go on.

The fact is, even if you do not want to admit it, Jesus founded a CHurch and he gave that Church authority.

Besides, as Paul says, we are no longer under the old law, so there is no need to worry about the Sabboth.

Hello Protestant101:

How long have you been SDA? You seem to be a little misinformed about the founder of your church and how much she is revered.

I have known several SDA’s and they not only have a really high reverence for EGW’s writings but Doug Bachelor is right behind her.

I’m curious though, if EGW didn’t start your church, who did? And who is the quote at the bottom of your signature line attributed to?

I rest my case. The seventh-day Sabbath represents God’s authority, Sunday represents Papal authority. There is nothing in the Bible to support the change of either God’s law, or God’s times as set forth in His Word. Catholics, whether they want to admit what their leadership has done or not have indeed thrown out the Bible when it comes to this issue. That is why they cannot say “in truth” that they follow the Apostles - in fact, that is a bit of a strawman itself. Seventh-day Adventists that I know don’t follow the Apostles. They follow Jesus Christ in this and other doctrines and practice.

People will have to choose - either Papal authority, or Bible authority.

Okay Protestant101, I’ll let you in on something I guess you are unaware of.

The quote at the bottom of your signature is from William Miller, founder of the Millerite movement. That quote is taken from a number of “rules” that were revealed to him when he decided to sit down with the Bible and have sort of a divine interpretation of his own from it. That was also when he came to the conclusion that the world would come to an end on 10/22/44. I’m sure you know what happened when Christ didn’t come on Oct. 22, 1944 like he predicted…well he lost a few followers. I believe he actually gave it another try but by then his followers had disbursed. Well sort of, they all decided it was the right date but the wrong event. They decided that the event that took place was that Jesus, instead of coming back to save us, went into the Holy Place in Heaven and started the process of investigative judgement. That’s a whole nother bag of worms. Totally not in harmony with the Apostles. 😊

Ellen and James White came up with that revelation and started the SDA church on that premise and of course Saturday Sabbath.

So, nope William Miller is not the founder of your church but the founder of the Millerites and Ellen and James white officialy began the SDA church in 1863.

And I know for a fact they believe in her “devine visions” as prophecy.

And somehow you missed my point.

The CATHOLIC CHURCH gave you the Bible

The CATHOLIC CHURCH gave you your calender.

The CATHOLIC CHURCH gave you most of the terminology you use in discussing God.

The CATHOLIC CHURCH gave you the basis for all math and science that makes your world possible.

The CATHOLIC CHURCH was the driving force behind western civilization.

Yes, we lifted the Sabboth bans and began Sunday worship as the norm. And WE HAD THE RIGHT TO DO SO. If you hold that we did not (and Jesus said that his followers had the same AUTHORITY that he had) please leave you Bible, Theology, Calender, science, math and history on your way out. They are all ours, anyway.

So, if you cannot see that, I pity you.

Well; I agree with you that the Catholic Church did do this with the Sabbath - but neither I or the Bible agree with you that they had the right to do so. If your Church is so good at math - how come they can’t answer how many sexually abused children by priests is too many? If your Church has such “authority,” why do they have to advocate their Sunday doctrines through political force?

You don’t have to play games here. Just say what you need to. If you already knew the answer to your question about my signature, there was no need to play that charade at all. You are not addressing a novice here.

When you state “I know for a fact;” I can see that you don’t. I have long studied our doctrines and our history to see if such accusations as yours are true; and even with a cursory investigation; it is easy to see you have been deceived.

The first thing that you “forgot” to mention is that William Miller was NEVER a Seventh-day Adventist. In trying to continue the Protestant faith; he has said many things that actually were/are Biblically sound, hence my signature. Jesus, being a Protestant, would easily agree with my signature, in His Word.

Second, why don’t you try to cough up a specific documentation to “prove” that Ellen White started our denomination? Book and page number from official publications would be good. I will not adress accusations about that without specific references.

You are bound by man made dogma. I gave you the scriptures that expose your flaws, but you didn’t even comment. I know why!

The truth is a fact, not a theory. This is why I am a proud convert to Catholicism.

Here are the verses that you must accept or ignore:

Col 2

16Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Acts 20

7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Romans 14

5One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother?

Gal 4
8Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. 9But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

St. Ignatius writing in about 105 AD:

Chapter 9. Let us live with Christ
If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death— whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master— how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, having come, raised them from the dead.

There isn’t? do you have a Bible? Please open to the following verses:

Mark 2:27 ‘Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.’

John 5:18 “So the Jews were trying all the harder to kill him, because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but was also calling God his own Father, thereby making himself equal to God.”

Col 2: 16 -17 “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a new moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

Acts 20: 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Romans 14: 5-11 “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. “The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.” --Francis Maitland Balfour 👍 **
