How are we saved?

Read Rev 12 and tell me the church was flourishing on earth after Christ rose. FYI 1260 days = 1260 years.

The Catholic church is the one in dogmatic fashion made it impossible for anything but the reformers to leave.

The CC is the one that invented God in a box.
Few protestants teach they are the only way to salvation.
Your church my friend first established that insurmountable indifference for others.

God in a Box

There is indeed one universal church of the faithful, outside of which nobody at all is saved, in which Jesus Christ is both priest and sacrifice. (4th Lateran Council of 1215, topic #1 - Confession of Faith)

Urged by faith, we are obliged to believe and to maintain that the Church is one, holy, catholic, and also apostolic. We believe in her firmly and we confess with simplicity that outside of her there is neither salvation nor the remission of sins. (Boniface VIII, Unam Sanctam of 1302)

It firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the catholic church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the catholic church before the end of their lives; that the unity of the ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only for those who abide in it do the church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia produce eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed his blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and the unity of the catholic church. (Council of Florence session 11 - February 4, 1442)

We must hold as of the faith, that out of the Apostolic Roman Church there is no salvation; that she is the only ark of safety, and whosoever is not in her perishes in the deluge; we must also, on the other hand, recognize with certainty that those who are invincible in ignorance of the true religion are not guilty for this in the eyes of the Lord. And who would presume to mark out the limits of this ignorance according to the character and diversity of peoples, countries, minds and the rest? (Pope Pius IX, in an allocution on December 9th, 1854)

This Sacred Council wishes to turn its attention firstly to the Catholic faithful. Basing itself upon Sacred Scripture and Tradition, it teaches that the Church, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary for salvation. Christ, present to us in His Body, which is the Church, is the one Mediator and the unique way of salvation. In explicit terms He Himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism and thereby affirmed also the necessity of the Church, for through baptism as through a door men enter the Church. Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic Church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved. (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church “Lumen Gentium” #14 - November 21, 1964)
Code:
*

"I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9)
*

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6)
*

"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:17)
*

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
*

They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:31)
Tukfryer, you should heed the warnings. Jesus set up the Catholic church for a reason. If you know that the Catholic church is necessary for salvation and you stay outside it, you are simply stating that you don’t care what the Savior said. You will be held responsibile for that decision.

The church must teach the truth. Even if YOU don’t like what the truth means. Truth is absolute, not relative.

The Church tried to remain one as Christ intended it to be and scriptures support this.

**Joh 10:16 And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.

Eph 4:3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call,
Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Rom 16:17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them.

1Co 1:10 I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.

Php 2:2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

Rom 15:5 May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
Rom 15:6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Joh 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth.
Joh 17:18 As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
Joh 17:19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.
Joh 17:20 "I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word,
Joh 17:21 that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:22 The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
Joh 17:23 I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.

1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body–Jews or Greeks, slaves or free–and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

Rom 12:4 For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function,
Rom 12:5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call,

Col 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.**

Now we have thousands of denominations of Protestants who can pick and choose a Church to fit their lifestyles. Is that obedience to God? Or is it man deciding how to obtain salvation for themself? Protestants have decided they are liberated and do not have to work out their salvation with fear and trembling, even though scriptures tell us precisely that.

Is the thousands of denominations being of full accord and one mind and judgment? Are there no dissensions with the birth of every new Protestant Church?

There was only the Catholic Church until the reformation of the 1500s, even though it was the Catholic Church that defined the canon of the Bible and perserved it through the ages, the reformers of the 1500s, and men even until this day, think they can interpret those sacred scriptures better than the Church that gave it to them.

Where is the evidence of a “Protestant” doctrined Church prior to the 1500s, one that you are willing to associate yourself with?

**Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once illuminated, have tasted also the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 Have moreover tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 And are fallen away: to be renewed again to penance, crucifying again to themselves the Son of God and making him a mockery.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins:
Heb 10:27 But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries.**

Hi All this ED. Can anyone give me the exact Scripture that informs me that only the Roman Catholic Magestrium has the sole authority to interpret Scriptures? What council or year, if no Scripture is available ? Or how did that all come about? Thank you Make it short too!

Peter, renamed the rock by Christ, keeper of the keys, given the authority to bind and loose on earth, learned directly from Christ, and as a rock, he was a stable person. He wrote the following.

2Pe 3:15 And account the longsuffering of our Lord, salvation: as also our most dear brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, hath written to you:
2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are certain things hard to be understood, which the unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.

God inspired Paul to write the following.

**Eph 3:10 That the manifold wisdom of God may be made
known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.**

We both believe scriptures are the inspired word of God. Why would God inspire it be written that the Church was the pillar and ground of truth and that the manifold wisdom of God may be made known through the Church instead of scriptures? Because the living Church can explain, but scriptures can only be interpreted.

Everytime you see Church in the above, replace it with “body of Christ”.

So how did you choose the right Church with so many denominations claiming truth according to someone’s private interpretation, all claiming Holy Spirit guidance?

More attitude Ralph?

It really appears you have an axe to grind, but from what you’ve told us it wasn’t the Church’s fault, it was your own fault. :tsktsk:

I dont claim association to any one church. I listen to many. my personal observation is
many are very weak or dead already, thats the ones I visit personally. Radio is a better way to find sound spirit filled teaching IMO. Many of them I dont completely agree with but I would look at it …from a catholic perspective as
  1. Roman Catholic
  2. Spanish Catholic
  3. Orthodox – severed their ties with Rome in the 11th
    Century
  4. Byzantine Catholics
  5. Polish National Catholics
  6. Old Catholics
  7. Eastern Orthodox
  8. White Robed Benedictine Network of Catholics –
guided by its own Bishop, follows the Vatican Council
    II
  9. Lutheranism – still considered part of Catholicism
    in some articles
  10. Universal Catholics
Radio and internet Radio allow someone to listen everyday thats what I do. Have for years.
I listen to people I dont agree completely with all the time 🙂

I do have the HS and hear it in other teaching even though I dont completely agree with their interpretation. I truly believe that this is not basic foundational beliefs but as I am lead Iately I am seeing how basics can affect the way the rest of doctrine is affected. we are all in transition from imperfect to perfect, and then we shall know as we have been know 👍

Yes, ProdicalSon1 2Peter 3:15-16 is what you say above. But in v17 Peter also said,"Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this (above), be on guard so that you may not be carried away by error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. What he did not say, was that he’s going to set up a clerical hierarchy (magestrium) to make sure that they get it right. This would have been a very apropriate time for him to do so. Do we agree? Lk 24:25 Jesus rebuked two ordinary people calling them fools for not knowing Scripture. 2 Tim 3:15 He new the Old T. from chilhood. It was not taught to him by rabbis but by his mother. It’s clear, people in the Old T. didn’t look to hierarchy for an official interpretation, that should also now include us, Agree? If an official interpretation for the OLd T. isn’t necessary, why then do we need one for the New T. Priscilla and Aquila a husband and wife team, tent makers Acts 18:3 a church met in their home.1Cor 16:19. They were also capable of teaching God’s Word to Apollos Act18:26 The Roman Catholic hierarchy didn’t even exist at that time. Paul tells the believers to check him out 1Cor14:37 How could that be possible if they weren’t able to properly interpret Scripture? It was by the same witness of the Holy Spirit within each believer that the first-century church decided which books (letters) were canonical, as it is for us today. John 16:13 The same Holy Spirit that guided them to the truth, does so for the believers of today. ED

I was wondering: How are we saved?
We are saved by Grace alone. It is Gods’ free gift of Grace which enables us to have Faith and do His will; without it we could do nothing.

So you are your own Church and you are juding the other Churches as weak, dead and wrong. Sounds like the accusations you continue making against the Catholic Church to be honest with you.
It is not my accusations per say. But rather the word of God as I and others testify it that convicts you. If you are lead by the Spirit He will bring all things to remembrance.

Peace I leave with you. my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled.

I will no longer talk much with you. For the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me.
But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment,so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

So you are your own Church and you are juding the other Churches as weak, dead and wrong. Sounds like the accusations you continue making against the Catholic Church to be honest with you.
To further clarify I was referring to members mostly, there are false teachers. And for the record I, like Ralph said, have met a lot of Catholics that dont know anything about what is written in the bible, all they can reference is the Catechism. This is the only place I have found bible literate Catholics.

Salvation is achieved through human effort on this earth. We must work to save ourselves from our own destruction here on earth. That said, if you’re talking about how we make it to Heaven, I personally believe in universalism and that pretty much everyone will go to Heaven. Whether or not the evil will go to a place of punishment or purification, I do not know.

Hi everyone.

I was wondering: How are we saved?

I mean, I consider the Catholic Church to be authoritative, but I can’t seem to get a straight answer when it comes to salvation. (In contrast, Protestants have a straight answer, “Believe in Jesus”.) I even checked the CCC and it made zero sense. Can someone please give me a short, simple answer to the question? Specifically:

i) I’ve heard it been said “Grace alone”. If so, how do we receive that grace?

ii) Where is this in the Bible?

iii) What of the verses like “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31) and “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)? How do they fit into the Church’s teaching?

Thanks!!!

(Oh, and by the way, I’m not trying to be pesky, I’m honestly looking for answers. Thanks!)
Hi JJ59, This is Ed telling you how to get saved. Hey Forum contributors, allow me to restate how and on what basis that I got saved as follows: It’s so simple to get saved, that’s why it’s so hard for some to understand. I got saved on May 4, 1974, I called out to God to save me as per Rom.10:13 “Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved”. also Rev 3:20. By doing so, God came into my life, I was “born again” spiritually, as required per John 3:5. and the angels rejoiced in heaven over my salvation Lk 15:10. Then two things took place, (1) I then read the Bible in order to grow spiritually which the Holy Spirit taught me God’s Biblical ways. (2) For months, God took me as far back into my life as I could remember. Every time I recalled a sin, right there on the spot, I confessed it to God. I was being sanctified. At times, I was required to make an apology or a restitution. Sometime later, I was led by the spirit to go to a Non-denominational prayer meeting where spirit filled people laid hands and prayed for me to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit as per Acts 8:17. Later, I was water re-baptized per Mat 3:11 as John states,” I baptize you with water for REPENTANCE “. (not for washing any of my sins as I was once taught). Sins can only be atoned for by the shedding of BLOOD Heb.9:22) Jesus did that for me on the cross Rev1:5 “ To Him (Jesus) who loves us and freed us from our sins by His BLOOD. To SUMMARIZE: I got saved on these basis: (A) I believed that God would come into my life when I called on the Lord per Rom.3:20 (B) I believed the gospel per Jesus in Mark 16:15-16 (The gospel is, Jesus died, was buried and was resurrected 1 Cor 15:2-4.) (C) I believed that salvation is by God’s grace and not by any of my works so that I could not boast, it’s a free gift from God Eph.2:8-9. (D) I was baptized to shown my out-ward sign of repentance per Mat,3:11. Also see P. S. below (E) I received the infilling of the Holy Spirit per Acts 8:17. I Now do good works (not for salvation) but to show my repentance as per Mat.3:7-8 And by doing so, it now counts for my rewards in heaven Mat.16:27 (F) I now know that I’m saved because there’s been a great change in my life per 2 Cor 15:17. (G) Most importantly I now know for certain, by following God’s above plan for salvation, that I’m assured of going to heaven per 1 John 5:13. " I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life”. We are saved by faith in Jesus alone.------- P. S. It’s the faith in Jesus’ BLOOD that washed my sins away (He was made sin) and by my belief in Him, He imputed His righteousness to me. That’s something water baptism can’t do. I was water baptized to identify with Christ’s dying to my old self, buried, and some day I’ll be resurrected by Him. ED

How is the Church the pillar and foundation of truth if everyone goes off and believes/teaches their own different truth based on their own (supposed Spirit led) private interpretation of the Scriptures.

Can you define a lot? 10s, 100s, 1000s? There a billion+ of us you know, and growing.

The Catechism is full of thousands (literally) of scripture references

Some Protestants don’t know what is written in the Bible
One website claims extreme unction is heretical James 5:15

To start with Jesus is the pillar of truth not an origination with a shingle on the door.
Some examples would be nice. I can not say why some have eyes and ears other than they are not of the Spirit. Claiming to have and having are of course 2 different things.

100s to conservative but its the % that makes me wonder.

They dont know the whole catechism, usually they simply reference the point that pertains to the subject.

That is rather like refusing to grab the life ring when your drowning, If you’ve heard the story. 😉 I find it unusual that someone could think that the body of Christ on earth could be under under one roof “church”.

You’ve personally met 100s of Catholics who don’t know what is written in the Bible? Wow!

If you add on the Catholic’s you’'ve met that do know the Bible, that’s a lot. I’ve met a few fellow Catholics in my time but can’t really say that I’ve personally sat down and talked with 100s about faith/Scripture.

Do you know the whole Bible?
