How can anybody possibly believe that "all have sinned"?

Why does the Holy Spirit tell thousands of different things to thousands of different Protestant denominations? Are all but one of those lying about what the Holy Spirit is telling them or is the Holy Spirit lying?
He doesn’t. Amongst those Protestant denominations which have remained truly Biblical, the differences that divide them are not fundamental, and the articles of faith in which they agree are more numerous than those in which they disagree.

But we’re living at the end of this Church age and Scripture itself describes how these days, and the attitudes of men, will progress to the worse: 1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Tim. 3:1-7.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t lie. He guides the Catholic Church into all truth.
If you’re referring to John 16:13 then, yes, Jesus is speaking to His Disciples for the sake of their ministry. But these same truths He (the Holy Spirit) *preserved * through the inspiration of the N.T. Scriptures for the sake of subsequent generations of believers. And amongst individual believers within the Body of Christ He has always raised up teachers of the Word (1 Cor. 12:28).
IF all believers were given different gifts–Paul would have had no reason to meet Peter or the other apostles.
He met with them to extend to them the right hand of fellowship. Not submit to them - not even PeterGal. 2:9 "…and recognizing the grace that had been given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we {might} {go} to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised."And Paul himself said of those who were of "high reputation"Gal. 2:6 "But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)–well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me."Paul did not, nor did he ever “submit” to Peter, whom you assert had authority over all the Apostles. Nor did he get his “gospel” from him, but from Christ Himself.
Jesus said that the apostles would rule over the twelve tribes of Israel–He didn’t say that other people would get to do that.
True, and the “12 tribes of Israel” is to be taken literally. But what He did say to all true believers is:"He who overcomes I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne (referring to His Millennial rule on earth at His 2nd Advent), as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne."Who are the “overcomers?” Those who are “born of God” having put their faith in Christ and Christ alone:1 John 5:4 "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.

1 John 5:5 “Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
If you weren’t one of the 12 you didn’t have the authority to interpret anything.
Really. Then you’d better throw out Luke’s Gospel account, as well as his historical account of Acts. And while you’re at it, tear out the Book of James and disregard ALL the Catholic arguments on this forum regarding justification by faith (baptism) plus works, because they invariably appeal to James. Neither Luke or James were one of the 12.
Did not Peter say that some of Pauls teachings “were hard to understand”?
Actually he said that only SOME THINGS were hard to understand and it was the untaught and unstable that distort them to their own destruction.2 Pet. 3:16 "…as also in all {his} letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as {they do} also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.Ulitmately, those who don’t understand Paul are the untaught and unstable. Are you admitting that you are one of them?
And as the case at Jerusalem in Acts shows of the 12 it was Peter who exercised ultimate authority among the 12.
Actually, nowhere in the Scriptures is it demonstrated that Peter exercised such authority over any of the other Apostles. What I quoted from Paul’s writings (above) totally dispels this myth.

Really, how can anybody believe this? Is there anybody who actually believes that e.g. a stillborn baby has committed acts of sin?
You must not forget the greatest commandment.
And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39
It is a sin to not have love of the Lord your heart. A baby conceived in a state of existence without the love of the Lord is sinful. Sin is not just acts of transgression against neighbors. It is a sin to have other gods before Him.

2. Still-born infants are not exempted from the effects of original son - if they were, that would be nothing for baptism to remedy when infants are baptised.

  1. See the Council of Trent’s teaching on OS
  2. The CCC teaches that “all have sinned”
  3. In so doing so, it does little more than echo the teaching of St. Paul, whom it quotes.

👍 😃 And sin is our native “environment”, if we are not “in Christ”. If sin is so inconsiderable - why did God become one of us, die a most cruel for our salvation ? What He has done for us in all His Life & Dying & Death, reveals what sin is, and what it does.

If sin is so inconsiderable…
I’m not sure I quite follow you. Lack of love of the Lord in one’s heart is not inconsiderable. It is a serious condition.

So now you know what sin is and what it does, but revealing sin and what it does was not why Jesus came. The prophets told the people what sin is.

Jesus died, simply for your salvation.

I didn’t say it was

It is a serious condition.

I know - I’m agreeing with you; not disagreeing 🙂

So now you know what sin is and what it does,

Partly thanks to a superb book called The Sinfulness of Sin:

but revealing sin and what it does was not why Jesus came. The prophets told the people what sin is.

Jesus died, simply for your salvation.

What they did not do, was die for our sins - ISTM that the Death of Christ reveals sin, because sin showed its true character & its full malice by killing God Incarnate when it killed Him: which is how He overcame it 🙂

No Prophet ever did that 😃 - & neither did any “dying god”. Only He did 😃
