And what about the guy who stepped down being head of the Evangelical church? His pedophilia?
If you’re talking about Ted Haggard, pedophilia had nothing to do with it (the male prostitute he visited was an adult). Also, he was not the head of the “Evangelical church”–there is no one “Evangelical church” to be the head of. He was the president of the NAE, which is a coalition of many evangelical denominations, independent churches, and other groups. He had no authority over evangelicals outside his own congregation.

That being said, your point stands. Protestants have their scandals as well.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ my Lord.
Not the so called Catholic term. It has so many meanings in todays world does it not?
I look ot no man on earth for salvation I only look to the one that sits at the right hand of the Father.
And since the way the man who sits at the right hand of the Father is through his Body, the Catholic Church, you are missing the boat.

Jews, given his past
Please tell me you are not buying into that nonsensical claim that a coerced official membership in the Hitler Youth as a teenager (with no evidence that he ever so much as attended a single meeting!) somehow constitutes a “past” that is relevant for Jewish-Christian relations in any way. His past is that he came from a family that opposed Nazism at a time when this was dangerous and unpopular. He has nothing to be ashamed of.
There are some I do not like, like his relativist, Mary-worshipping predecessor
I’ll let the Catholics take you up on the “Mary-worshipping” charge. I think it’s silly, but it at least has some substance if you start from Protestant theological assumptions. But relativist? Come on. Have you even glanced at Veritatis Splendor? Calling JPII a relativist is like calling Karl Marx a free-market liberal. It’s not just wrong. It’s sheer madness.

Really?

Acts 5:14-16

Peace,

The verses you cite:
Act 5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
Act 5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid [them] on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
Act 5:16 There came also a multitude [out] of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one
.

I am in no way opposed to the Pope healing sick people, which has absolutely nothing to do about adoring someone…does it?

None of this matters people, it doesn’t matter what the pope wears, it doesn’t matter what happened to the papacy over the centuries, it doesn’t matter if the pope wears Prada shoes (given to him as a gift, which they are made in Italy anyway), doesn’t matter the ‘wealth’ of it, what matters people is, the Catholic church has stood for 2,000 years through good and evil, guided by the [BHoly Spirit with an unbroken link from Jesus Christ handing over the keys to Peter up until now. That’s what matters.l**
It does matter actually because God said it does. Not the shoes part but the adoration given to a human does not come from God.
Peter did not allow anything that even resembled that. Its in the Bible you know…

Even though I was baptized Catholic (never raised, belong to no church) seeing him makes me NEVER want to take catechism! He is seriously creepy to me. I had a lot of respect for the Late Pope. But there is just something about this current Pope that totally creeps me out.

And adding to the list of mortal sins excessive accumulation of wealth, this from the Vatican? It was amusing to me in a way.

And Oh yeah, what they said…“doctrine”. I just go straight to the source, talk to Jesus myself every day, and confess to him. I think he is cool with that.

Even though I am not into organized religion I have no problem with others being part of it. To each his own.
Does that sound like someone who admires the pope???

Are you justifying Mr Haggard’s behavior because it was an adult?? He’s suppose to be a man of God! Hello! And this man is HEAD of millions of Evangelicals.

I definately don’t see with the same eyes as you do. Honestly, his wardrobe seems ostenatious (I can’t imagine Jesus wearing any of those concoctions) and when I saw an article about his clothing and tradition I thought, “here is a man who wants to be Pope waaaay to badly.”

I’m not saying I’m right. I’m just telling you my perception. As to why not be Catholic, the main reason is that I refuse to join a church that tells me I’m sinful for using birth control. I have a hard enough time managing 3 children and a dog without someone telling me I need to be open to more life. So for that reason alone I’d never be Catholic, although I’m not anti-Catholic, don’t hate the Catholic Church and enjoy posting here occasionally.

I’m just being honest.
I don’t want to be negative here …just a thought. You seem to be looking for a church to fit your lifestyle instead of a lifestyle to fit your Church. By the way…birth control isn’t the only sin defined by the Church…there are more and I have been guilty of many of them unfortunately.

Why not? HE IS THE VICAR OF CHRIST. What is it exactly you don’t understand here?
Sounds to me like you see him as the AVATAR OF CHRIST.

Anyway i dont really care. Have fun. Its good to have that feeling of “divine encounter”. It was memorable to me. 😃

Just for the record two year olds do not have the capacity to commit actual sin.

**Unfortunately, there are MANY Protestants on this board that think babies and toddlers can sin. **
They use this argument as a response to Romans 3:23, which states:
". . . all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God."
Since we understand that St. Paul was using hyperbole to make his point about the sinful nature of man, we know that there ARE exceptions.

On another thread, one person even used the argument that Jacob and Esau sinned in the womb based on Genesis 25:22-23 in which God tells Rebekah that 2 nations were quarrelling in her womb (Jacob & Esau)!! they can’t see the difference between hyperbole and metaphorical language versus reality. This is the tragedy of the divisiveness of Protestantism.

People who use the argument that babies and severely retarded people have the capacity to sin just don’t get it

Not fun, but fact. 👍
Facts are things that anyone can agree on regardless of bias. So while we can all agree on Napoleon, its just catholics who can agree with your beliefs on the Pope. Thats not fact, but faith.

I never understood the opposition to the way the Pope dresses and how much money he may or may not have. The man has a lot of work to do - who cares if there’s pagentry? I think it’s fun.
I’m a Protestant and have grown up a Southern Baptist and I totally agree with what you’re saying.

There are many many famous Evangelical Pastors that are extremely well-off financially in part because of their fame and their ministry and few ever seem to criticize them for it.

Also in scripture, especially in the old testament, there are loads of examples of very Godly men being dressed elaborately for the purpose of ceremonies before God and to recognize them as High Priests of God or as a special minister in his service.

As for Catholics calling the Pope Holy and that being idolatry of some kind…I’m sorry but this is a really silly argument. Scripture constantly commands us throughout that we should be Holy just as our Lord is Holy and always strive for personal Holiness. There is nothing wrong with acknowleding that a devout follower of Christ is a Holy person. Especially if he happens to be the top leader of your Church.

Just my two cents.

Today is Monday.

Rush Limbaugh has been playing Pope Benedict’s talks all day. At the World Trade Center and now at St. Josesph’s seminary in Yonkers.

When the Pope arrived in Washington, Rush played and replayed the Army Chorus singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and President Bush’s greeting to the Holy Father.

Amazing.

You could almost get the idea that both President Bush and Rush Limbaugh are really secret Catholics.

Maybe we should qualify how we are using adoration. I am in no way using it in the sense used for God alone and neither does any other Catholic. If any non-Catholic implies that we do then they are being disingenious. Now anyone who wants so show
adoration to a loved one,or to show respect, reverence, and a other pious act have at it. I believe it is a manifestation of ones humility.
