If you can’t find any evidence whatever to support the historical claims of the BoM then logically you MUST conclude that the BoM is not what it claims to be. The reason that BYU can find ‘scientists’ who will produce convoluted explanations for the lack of physical evidence is simple - they are employees of an LDS supported organisation and would lose their jobs if they didn’t at least make the effort and are Mormons and so would lose friends and family if they were seen to fail to ‘support the church’ when invited by SLC to do so.
The most recent and advanced analysis of the writings in the BoM conclude that their were 3 authors and they have been identified from other writings by the same individuals as being - Sidney Rigdon, Solomon Spaulding and (to a lesser extent) Oliver Cowderey. End of story? No it is not - Mormons will cling on and on and on to their strange heresies -because they have been raised with the certaintly that they are the chosen, the spiritual elite of the world - hard to let go of feelings of eternal superiority, but highly advisable nevertheless.
