How come the Latin bishops weren't able to ignite the Holy Fire, but Eastern bishops were?

In 1101 the priests who involed the light were both Greeks and Latins invoking together. The light did not come so the Greeks asked the Latins to leave and they did and then the light came. Interpret as you will but don’t say that the event is not a miracle because some newspaper says so.
It is now filmed live (for 2 years now) and it can be found on youtube. Catholic priests witness it too and many other people whether they are EO or Christians or non Christians. Anyone can just go there and take the light. The Israeli police ensures security for the event. Is not a hearsay event anymore.

this is actually really interesting… I’m thinking of becoming Catholic, but maybe I should look into the Orthodox church instead.

Also, is this proof that the Eastern Orthodox have the correct date for Easter and Catholics don’t?
Is there a “correct” date for Easter? I don’t think so. There’s the Julian calendar Easter used by the Orthodox and there is the Gregorian calendar Easter, used in the West since 1583.

A few years ago Pope Francis said the Catholic Church would be prepared to accept a fixed Easter, apparently referring to the proposal by some Protestant churches to move Easter to the first Sunday in April. I suspect that would be divisive. It would lead, in practice, to three different dates for Easter, instead of the present two.

No offense, Mary, but I don’t believe it’s a miracle. I believe the newspapers have got it right.

God knows everything. He knows of this practice on Easter for so many years. Why does He not send a cloud to cover the sunrays?
The light also did not come 1580 when the church where it happens wqs occupied by muslims (recorded fact) and in one year in the 1940s when we all know what was happening.
I feel dumb and silly too… many times …for not moving above the so many strange events popular with Christians. But then I think that maybe…maybe… I am just disappointed that this is a sign from God, something that small and not something bigger that no one can argue against. Then I remember that Jesus said “those of you who wish to follow me…”. Then it makes sense why God would send even small miracles we can ignore or not ignore. Because we have to choose. Maybe we see ourselves as bigger than we are and we want Him to give more. But God is God. From my perspective…
Maybe not a miracle but a sign. Has to be.

Actually, to my knowledge that isn’t what happened, not exactly. The Latin Patriarch of the time tried to get the fire, interpreted the failure as a result of the sins of the Crusaders, started a penitential procession and after that the fire appeared. This is what Sylvia Schein implies in her book Gateway to the Heavenly City.

And long answer short, using alleged miracles to prove some group is more favoured by God or “right” (whatever that means) doesnt really seem to fly anywhere fast.
But both Latins and Greeks alike tried to “ignite” this miracle, and God clearly only allowed it to happen with the Greeks.

Isn’t that odd, since Rome is supposed to be the Holy See. Why would God blantanly side with the Greeks, since it would cause doubt about the authenticity of Rome?

You seem to be disregarding the replies to your OP from people like @Lillypilly and myself, among others, who don’t believe in the alleged “miracle.”

I would think the burden of proof is on the one claiming the miracle. All they have to do is allow observers inside the Aedicule and an examination of the candles.
People discount this like people discount Fatima
True, but Fatima has 70,000 witnesses. What goes on inside the Aedicule before the candles “miraculously” burst into flames is anyone’s guess. There are no witnesses except the people involved in perpetuating this.
Also, is this proof that the Eastern Orthodox have the correct date for Easter and Catholics don’t?
The Eastern Orthodox use an outdated and inaccurate calendar rather than use the more accurate Gregorian calendar that the rest of the world uses, simply because Catholics invented it. All the Protestant nations as well as Greece were very late to adopt the Gregorian calendar out of anti-Catholic prejudice.

You don’t find this to be at least a little suspicious? 😁

The videos never show what goes on inside the Aedicule.

You are presuming that this is a genuine miracle, when it can easily be explained otherwise.

I tend to think it is a real miracle.

I find it very far fetched that these men of God, these Patriarchs have kept a dirty secret for thousands of years and not one one them had enough intregity to say it’s a hoax.

The fact that it’s real doesn’t bother me nor undermines my faith. It is the fact that the EO only has the “power” to ignite the tomb of Jesus (the most important relic in human history) while the Catholics seem unworthy of this “power”

☺️

Provide evidence that this happened.
It could be a rumour.

Also: the holy fire is not in the Bible or scriptural.

And: is there any evidence that the ‘holy fire’ isn’t a scam?

Anyways it is just a ‘fire,’ it is not biblical.

The Catholic Faith has Jesus: body, blood, soul and divinity truly present in the Eucharist, which is proven in Scripture.

Thank you, @(name removed by moderator)! Let’s hope that puts an end to it.

The Catholic Church recognizes Eastern orders and succession. Even if not in full communion with the successor of St Peter, the GO Patriarch of Jerusalem may truly be the successor of St James…and if this miracle is authentic, it may be a special charism granted to that line.

What about all of the miracles reported that have nothing to do with either church?

Does this mean that neither is the truth?

So where did I say I had difficulty with it? And what do you believe I am having difficulty with?

Just a reminder to all, we are to respect other religions and branches of the Church. It is a miracle held with respect , therefore we do not degrade it, such as others don’t come here and degrade Fatima or any of our miracles.
