“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” - Epicurus
How is it that God would be able to give us free will but prevent our choosing to do evil?

“Is God willing to . . . .
What is wrong with suffering? The moth suffers in emerging from it’s cocoon, in fact, if you alleviate this suffering and help it by cutting away the cocoon, it will be twisted and malformed. It is that process that forms it properly.

God is both able and willing to prevent evil but it would defeat the purpose of creating independent beings. Why do people die fighting for freedom? Because it’s better than being a slave!

Natural evil is the result of finitude. Only God is perfect in every respect.

So he is malevolent?

What would your world look like in which God created us with free will but there was no evil?

How would that be accomplished?
What are you trying to accomplish? Can you explain what you mean by ‘evil’

Excuses that are totally unnecessary. We are on our own, and always have been, or so I and many others believe.
In my humble opinion none of us were ever on our own from the beginning of our time on earth till our death. What is your definition of a deist ?

So he is malevolent?
No, God is love.
What motivates you?
If you are sincere you will come to know Him and maybe people here can help.
It is the reality of love that highlights the mystery of evil.
We come to know Him and ourselves through the love that grows within us as we deepen our relationship with God and others.
Our free will, our ability to change ourselves and the world in accordance with or in opposition to His Divine will is what is necessary for the journey to eternal life. This however, makes evil a possibility. That we might choose evil, might oppose what is love, was foreseen and is the reason for the slaying of the innocent Lamb at the foundation of the world. The Son sacrificed Himself that all might join in loving eternal Union with the Father.
Rejoice!

A person who believes in God as creator, but not controller. He leaves humans to deal with human affairs.
