How do non-denominational Christians pick a church?

In many ways, being nondenominational spiritually, is like being an independent politically; you are not tied to a particular religious group! Because you are not Mormon, catholic, Jewish, Hindu, etc., you are “labeled” as a Protestant! Nondenominational Christians do not seem to have as many disagreements about doctrinal issues, rather worshpping, serving and following Christ! What does unequally yoked mean to you? Does it mean a Christian being married to a non believer, or two Christians of different faiths being married? If my wife and I were of differing faiths, but were Christians, I would not expect her to convert to my way of thinking, and would like to believe that she would extend the same coutesy to me! Maybe some other nondenoms could weigh in on this issue!
I lead my wife. though I cant force her to believe as I do but she listens to me on spiritual matters.

just to jump in this thread again before it closes and because i have recently been involved in a discussion on this topic do you believe a christian must believe in all three of those things to be a christian ? i do believe in the first and the third and believe those are a must but i dont believe in a virgin birth so would yoou then have it that i could not be a christian ?

in my own personal view to be a christian you must believe in jesus , the trinity and abide by the two greatest commandments to the best of your ability . the rest is down to your own conscience as to what other parts you have your faith in.
Why would you believe in anything the Bible says but reject the virgin birth?

Actually, there is no list of “what it takes to be saved” in the Bible. Catholics believe in the entire Deposit of Faith.

And, it’s not true at all that “we all know what it takes to be saved”–there’s at least 40,000 different versions of what people think it means to be saved.
Create disunity and there will be disunity.

Aaagghhh! That is a paradigm designed in hell, in my opinion, 1beleevr! **

There are sooo many principles one could apply that logic to:
  • Slavery may be wrong for me, but it’s not wrong for you!
  • There is ONE God for you, but I believe there’s many!
  • Homosexuality may be wrong for you, but it’s not wrong for me!
  • Jesus may be God for you, but for me, he was just a good teacher!
**Note: Please don’t read into my reference to hell. There is nothing demonic at all about your posts or you or anything about you. I’m just saying that this idea that “it’s wrong for me but not for you” or “it’s ok for you but not for me” is just what the devil ordered!
Well if you backed that up with some scripture, lets say John 8:42-47:

42Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."The only problem I guess is other people can hear God’s voice.

Do you not realise that it was by Christ being on the cross is what gave the cross it’s “postion”…Are you claiming that because Christ is depicted on the cross we beleive Him to still there…too funny. You know i find that it’s those that wave the plank in the eye verse around that tend to have a plank so big they can not even see but still claim to see.
]

So, if He was removed from the Cross, why do you need to depict Him as being on it? Why a corpus? Paul preached crucifixion, but he also taught resurerection! Kind of hard to ascend, if you’re still nailed to the cross! And the plank IS still in your eye!

Calm down, sister! What I am saying is(I’ll try to speak slowly) that, because I don’t feel the need to go to confession, does not mean that I am condemning this practice or saying you shouldn’t!

Well if you don’t agree with His Church then yeah you are wrong.Again with the weekly confesssion have you no control of yourself that you feel this is needed.a bit short there no mention anywhere of the spouse converting just that the spouse must agree before hand that the children be raised Catholicthat my friend is the Church caring for the souls of the little ones…Unlike others that say let them run amuck.some times i find that hard to believe given how you have made light of some of my words in the past. And no i am not holding it against you,You think that i do not love you as a brother in Christ as well?Wrong again had surgey yesterday and the plank was removed.😃

I don’t remember making light of any of your words, but I am beginning to understand why some people think that catholics are arrogant;) And whether or not I agree or disagree that confession to a stranger weekly is necessary or not, does not mean that I do not have control of myself:p It simply means that I can go directly to the source(God)as stated in 1John 1:9. And I’m not sure, do you love me as a brother in Christ? And finally; no, you are wrong! Just because I don’t agree with the catholc church does not mean I am wrong! But, like you, I am forgiven!👍

catholics believe that Mary was the product of an immaculate conception, which would mean her mother was, and her mother was and…
Nope. It was fitting that Mary, the New Ark which carried the Eternal Word in her womb, be a pure vessel, free from sin from the moment of her conception. However, it was not necessary. So Mary’s ancestors need not have been pure as well.

Why do you depict the baby Jesus in your creche at Christmas? He’s not a baby anymore!

Because, naturally, human beings use images to depict a reality.

It helps us to remember the reality of God’s sacrificial LOVE for us. What could be more beautiful than remembering this most important event that ever happened?

What I am saying is(I’ll try to speak slowly)
That’s a little arrogant, brother, don’t cha think? 😦
that, because I don’t feel the need to go to confession, does not mean that I am condemning this practice or saying you shouldn’t!
Very good, then.

But your bigger paradigm is, indeed, as long as you’re a Christian, all these doctrines (confession, altar calls, sola scriptura, Virgin Birth, Incarnation, Trinity, infant dedications, etc etc etc) don’t really matter, right?

If so, then you are really a relativist and ought not tell a Muslim or Hindu or atheist that you have the Truth.

You are, in essence, a Christian relativist.

I always thought the Catholic view of immaculate conception was meaning without sin at the time of Christ’s conception. I just looked it up and it is without original sin at conception.

Without a blot is easily achieved… she could be 12 years old or have been sanctified if older.

But if it is “without orginal sin” I’ll need to ponder it.

lol… that’s funny because our manger is always empty of Jesus. I think my daughter ran away with Jesus.

No. Rather, we believe that Jesus created Mary for the specific purpose of being His Mother when He came to us in human form. Part of His process of creating her was to preserve her from the stain of Original Sin, and gave her an exceptional ability to resist sin, so that she never sinned in her whole life - He gave her these gifts not only for her sake (in response to the commandment to “Honour thy mother and thy father” - what greater gift could He have given her? It beats flowers on her birthday every year by a long mile, although I am sure He also gave her flowers on her birthday, too), but also so that we would better understand who He is. (If she had been a notorious sinner, would Joseph have believed the angel’s message, that what she bore was the Son of God? But since Joseph knew for a fact that he had never seen her sin in even the smallest way, he was able, then, to believe the message of the angel, even though to begin with he thought she had been taken advantage of in his absence.)

We display a Crucifix at Mass to remind ourselves that the Mass is the un-bloody re-presentation of Christ’s sacrifice for us on the Cross.

We display them in our homes and wear them around our necks to remind ourselves of the price that was paid for our salvation.

Of all the things to object to, this one takes the cake - why would a Protestant object to remembering what Christ did for us on the Cross? It seems to me that this is the very essence of the Gospel message, no matter what kind of Christian you are. 🤷

But it is okay for us to have a depiction of Christ on the cross, just that it is wrong for 1blver to do so.🤷
Just as it is okay for a member of a non-denom to beleive that because i am a Catholic i am the spawn of satan, and another to believe that it is okay for me to attend a Catholic Church because i still can hear the word of God…To make it even more ineresting these two attend the same fellowship cause they are husband and wife.

right back at you…Many times others have done the same(made light) and you know what they just can’t seem to ever remember doing it…Why is that?
And whether or not I agree or disagree that confession to a stranger weekly is necessary or not, does not mean that I do not have control of myself:p
How is it that the one who shows me the face of Christ is a stranger, what you think priests roam around the country forcing people to weekly confession.
It simply means that I can go directly to the source(God)as stated in 1John 1:9.
Such an amazing translation. In no shape or form do the words written say exactly what you claim.
And I’m not sure, do you love me as a brother in Christ? And finally; no, you are wrong! Just because I don’t agree with the catholc church does not mean I am wrong! But, like you, I am forgiven!👍
If you don’t agree with the full truth then the only obvious choice is that you are wrong indeed.😛

When i dropped the Church for my local non-denom,i left my first “true” worship service deeply puzzled…there was something lacking,i couldn’t figure out what though…A close friend told me next week we have communion, that got my hopes up a bit…before the next service i was back in the Church kneeling before my Lord,i finally understood and knew the truth. Never again has my shadow darked the door to that non-denom
This is of my personal experience

]

Sounds rather traumatic; did you need any counseling?Do we realy know what a “true” worship service is? Did you realize that you can kneel before your Lord in your own home?
this is your resposne 1beleever to my personal experience…yeah talk all you want about how charitiable and humble you are but your words speak for themsleves.
