How do women feel about chivalrious men?

I think they are great but it should go both ways! and sometimes I think it can go to far. For instance the man ALWAYS being expected to pay for a date. And also I think someone mentioned tipping your hat at a woman when she walks in a room and or standing up. And to me that seems a bit overkill and I would HATE that sort of attention personally. And if I were a man I would be like what are all these women royalty or something…?😛 Things like opening a door if he is the first one to get to it are fine with me. Whoever gets there first should be the one to open it. My husband always insists on opening the door though if we get there at about the same time.

As for things like not swearing around women it depends. I think if you are in a group of mostly aquaintences that you are not real familar with then it shouldn;t matter whether or not there are any women there or not you should keep a lid on the potty mouth. But if it is a group of friends and you know thwe woman/women have no problem with it I donlt see why not… 🤷

And one other thing…I donlt really get what is so bad about a woman being the one to ask a guy out for the first time or anytime after that or ask a guy to marry her. I mean think about how many lovely couples might not be here today if the woman hadn;t taken that first step? I mean why really do you think that way? Is it just a matter of well it;s tradition and I donlt really have any other good reason. Or do you really have a reason?

How do women feel about chivalrous men? They love me. Unfortunately for you all, ladies, I’m happily married.

I love chivalry. My husband is in the military and I know he is a officer and a gentleman. 👍 He always holds the door for me, opens my car door, and lets me order first. I love, love, love it. I would not have it any other way. I am very old fashioned.

Dont downplay ladies in their 50s and 60s they love it too. My mother is in her 60s and she gets very offended when a man wont open the door for her.

I have to say as a woman I have held the door open for a man. I know that sounds funny! You should see the look on their faces it is pretty suprising. They can hardly believe it. Why not! But regardless of sex I think letting a door slam in someones face is plain rude!

Not a woman, but I’d like to say, I think chivalry needs to return. Christianity is an excellent source of it too. At least for me. I admit I do slip many times in my manly duties (heeh, that’s my name for chivlarious manners), but I try not to. I enjoy being a chivalrious man; it makes me smile when I serve others and do good. I don’t know why. But…some people call me weird because of that, and it’s probably why I’m having a hard time with dating.

And if I told you what my Catholic high school experience was like in regards to girls, you would undoubtedly call me a liar because it would completely wreck your assumption about the resolve of shy people. You’d also think I was lying because Catholics seem to believe that Catholic schools are the ultimate in education and its faculties can do no wrong.

What has not yet been established is what being chivalrous pertains to. Most people here would have you believe that it involves the woman getting a free meal and expecting men to make the first move in initiating a date. I would have you believe that it involves both parties in a date having respect for each other and being attentive to each other and showing integrity, and has nothing to do with traditional gender roles.
One should not assume too much.

I hate to be the one to bring the bad news.
But chivalry is dead.

At least in my generation it is LOL.
Well, let’s revive it. As for me, I am old and my once firm skin is now around my ankles, so I like to get all the attention from the other half that I can. If that means a young guy is thinking, “Oh let me open the door for the old lady”, that is fine with me. As long as he doesn’t call me an “old” lady to my face.👍

There are way too many who lack respect and courtesy. My own dad seems to frown upon the idea of chivalry. Though he is a generous and good person, he says “Equality is a-”…well…you know…

His point was that some women want to be just like men, so why should they avoid paying the bill because they’re women?
They want to be equal, pay the bill.
Now, it makes sense, and I’ll agree that those women who try so hard to prove that they are equal to men, are just as bad as men without chivalry.
Women don’t seem to realize how important they are. And believe me, when you’re 19, never had a girlfriend and haven’t even been out on a date before, you tend to look at women (and the time spent with them) as precious gifts. They were made by God just as men were. Treating women with respect like chivalry dictates is natural.
In fact, aren’t we called to treat fellow men the same way? (with charity, not dating with courtesy!!!😃 )
Belgarion you are a sweety. Aunt Pol would love you.👍

This is a sensitive topic for many, but I just wanted to ask. Some women feel that such men are degrading them. That’s just some of the things I’ve felt that other women believe. So how do you feel about these type of men (if their “chivalry” be sincere)?
Tis better to receive than to give. Hold that door!

To me chivalry is not about having the man paying for all the dates etc. That is a through back to the bad old days when women earned far less then men. Most of the time women have their own reasonably well paid job.

To me chivalry is about respect and respect works both ways.

As a women, if I see a elderly lady or man or a young women with a babe in arms or steering a buggy trying to open a door or carry shopping I will offer assistance which is usually very much appreciated.

Although I’ve noticed lately that some of the young women don’t even acknowledge that your standing there holding the door open for them, to which I say to them “your welcome” . Nine times out of ten they usually turn around and say “oh, sorry, thanks”

It’s not that I want them to get down on bended knee in thanks but I strongly believe in leading by example. So if some kid sees me holding the door for someone and they can’t be bothered to say thanks, that kid is probably gonna say to themselves “what a sucker”

Did you mean to sound this resentful of women and the chivalrous attitude?

I have always wanted a man to pull out my chair for me. Never has happend.

Really? In my case, I think everyone except my husband has done this for me. (My husband isn’t the chivalrous type, unfortunately.)

😦 The waiter should in a “white tablecloth” restaurant. Or, I welcome you to visit me in Houston and we can make short work of that!!!

Why thank you!!
Aunt Pol is the greatest! (I love those books 😃 )

That’s unfortunate!! Someone has to take care of that!
Hmm…I have to remember to not forget that…I don’t know if I have done it for anyone other than my sister…

Offtopic - Belgarion, I love the quote in your siggy. The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies of all time. I should have known you’d be a big proponent of chivalry. 😃

😃 The Princess Bride is AMAZING and one of my favorites as well.
I suppose having that quote would give someone that idea…lol! It fits perfectly then!

I should get some Ever After quotes in there, too…

Chivalry has a big role in films like that…hmm…I suppose it must have something to do with romance…🙂

I’ve never been to a “white tablecloth” restaurant. I will have to go to one and see.

No I did not, I just think it should go both ways and that it can go a bit to far. And I was just curious about why some women feel women should not ask a man out at all for a date or never ask a man to marry her.

Personally, if my future girlfriend were to propose to me instead of I to her…I’d be somewhat crushed.
Its something I’ve dreamt of doing for…well…a LONG time.
It would suck to have that opportunity taken away. 😦
