How do you feel about atheists?

Many things…

Clearly i think you accept something that is wrong for a start. You also have the worry of hell, not really for you as an individual, but i can’t imagine how worrying it must be for you contemplation loved ones going to hell. You also have thought of eternal life hanging over you, something the horrifies me so much i am so glad there is no evidence that it is true. You also have the fact that that your faith stifles many discussion and interactions. For example established facts being banned topics worries me. That is no path to truth.
From what I’ve seen, topics are banned here when there have been threads that violate forum rules, and the mods just don’t want to deal with the topic any more. Atheism threads used to be banned, but now it seems they are unbanned.

I’ve never seen a topic banned for any other reason.

And this is something that only God and you could possibly know for sure, although those close to you can no doubt attest to it as empirical observers, as well! However, to you and to God it is *objective *truth!

Good show old chap! I would hope, if asked what is most important in my life, my friends and family would say, “God!” without hesitation. If not, then I have some work to do, eh?:yyeess:
I was taught that our priorities should be:

Faith
Family
Job

Rebecca, there’s a statement on here somewhere from Mr. Hilbert, wherein he reminds us that atheism threads were only recently unbanned, and we are on close watch.🍿

It seems he had adequate coffee because he hasn’t shut it down today…yet.👍

Yes. Mine hasn’t started yet. Schools open Wednesday. I look forward to continue my efforts to subtly evangelize while teaching.👋👋

We can respect their right to hold to atheism, without respecting atheism itself, yes?
Sure if you want I was always told to let others believe what they want though. If that is how they choose to live their lives then so be it. I’m not going to make them change who they are and what they believe. I don’t care what they belive in as long as they are happy in life.

Best way to evangelize is to give a lots of tests As Ronald Reagan said there will be prayer in schools as long as there are tests.

👍

I"m a guest teacher, so I don’t generally get to pick when to give the kids a test. I’ll watch for signs of prayer, though-- at least in those kids who care about their test performance. Not all of them do.

It is going to become increasingly problematic for Christians to teach in public schools, with books like, “Suzie has Two Daddies” on the primary grade reading list. Of course, as a substitute, I can simply not get to that particular part of the day’s lesson plan. Teachers often leave substitutes more than they could actually get to in a day anyway, to ensure that the sub isn’t left with dead time, which can make classroom management more challenging. So, the sub often has to prioritize on the fly. Readings supporting same sex relationships are bottom priority, to say the least.

I did sub a 7th grade history class where the chapter was covering the scientific revolution, or maybe it was the “Enlightenment.” The authors seemed to claim that there was no further need for Christianity after the 1600s. I took the opportunity to remind the kids that their textbook authors had their own biases and the statements in question reflected those biases. Not a whole lot I can do, but I do what I can.🤷

However, Christ calls us all to evangelize.

One other thing: I’d like to disabuse you of the idea that the banned topics (specifically, evolution) are banned because Catholics are forbidden by the Church to discuss them, think about them, consider them, think critically about them.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Most of the banned topics, including evolution, are banned for one reason only:

*members here have been unable to dialogue about this topic with charity and equanimity.

Moderators got tired of being Forum Nannies so they said, “Fine. You can’t talk about it at all since you can’t talk about it nicely.”

That’s already been refuted with the reference to Santa Claus.

You would never encourage your adult, mentally competent son to believe in Santa, even if it made him happy.

I feel it is a doubled edge sword. Yes i am missing something people of faith have, however i also have some thing they don’t.

PS not disrespect taken, it is a very interesting question.
Could you specify what that is that you are missing, and what you think we are lacking or don’t have, i.e., I personally believe in faith and reason/science (something I’m sure you don’t think is possible), as such I do not feel like I’m missing out on anything (evolution is not an issue for Catholics and I love the sciences/learning)?

The one thing I’ve noticed among some of the irreligious is that they seem to adopt their viewpoint to justify something that religion won’t allow.

All atheists are missing something vital…and that is Jesus Christ, His love and mercy. :signofcross:
I would agree, but I don’t think he would put it that way, although I suppose it’s partly why he’s here (he’s missing something, but isn’t sure why or what that is).

p.s. It’s why I asked him the question in the first place.

How do you feel about atheists? Do you pity them? Hope for them? Argue with them? Pray for them?
They don’t exist. If they say God does not exist than I say they don’t exist, but as my Bishop said in his homily just because we think something doesn’t make it so. I pity them because of their final destination unless they repent
