My…my…my…my. Beloved… Such learned beings. Has reason become your Lord. Tell me do you honestly believe that either of you know the mind of our Heavenly Father. You have asked through reason and grown to have become what? I admire your dedication to searching out truth and know that you are senior amongst your peers, but forgive me beloved to what end. Does not the same fate await you. You have spent your youth pursuing truth and surely you have found it and it has consumed who you are. Tell me what you now have become? How much truth will it take for you to say enough… this is sufficient for me. I find it ironic that God gave the wealthy man an abundance yet not the power to enjoy it. Are you like unto this man. Does no one miss you? Do you not even miss you? ENOUGH already. It is true that God created man upright and that man has sought out many devices. And you are just as guilty as I and for the same reason. The day has come for you to set aside vanity and operate on faith alone or are you not yet convinced? I speak not for myself but for you. Humbly I ask you to now set reason aside and try to walk exclusively by faith. Perhaps you will find the peace that has eluded you for so long. I say these things to you not out of pompous self-righteousness but out of genuine concern for you. There is no end to discernment unless you end it and walk by faith. Then peace will come to you and joy as well. I believe that your friends and family will finally be glad to get you back after all of these years and trust me… You will be glad to get back into the land of the living. Amen
Jopala,

I kind of feel like writing…

gee dad where did I miss this point. Enough is enough. I have missed me. But what is you are really trying to say?

I agree with you on the highlighted and underlined statement above. Everything else is

I followed God’s love, and somehow an atheist ended up loving God. Love then, is how God’s Truth is manifest to me.

[BIBLEDRB]Romans 8:28-39[/BIBLEDRB]
And, one’s reassurance of this is that Christ founded a Church, giving it all authority. That Church traces both back and forward in an unbroken line of apostolic succession. The very possibility of any such “great apostosy” is absolutely destroyed by the very words of Christ.

Yes, there has to be assurances of reason that go with love, otherwise, I would not be able to trust it.🙂 God is Merciful, and provides us with signs of His love and mercy. Christ’s Church, is one of those signs.

I have started this thread so I can understand why people can not understand why mormons believe in more of God’s word than other mainstream Christians. And why others can not accept that there is more of God’s word. We are asked why we believe in these books. I ask how do you know that what you believe in is real or more correct than what I have. History is fine, but victors always write the histroy.
As you probably know, Jews believe only in the divine word of The Hebrew Bible (what Christians call The Old Testament), particularly the Torah (Pentateuch). They do not believe in the divinity of The New Testament (Gospels), The Book of Mormon, the Qur’an or any other holy book. This is in part because of what the Torah itself says with regard to its being the definitive word of G-d, the Eternal Covenant, not to be added to or detracted from by any future generation of men or prophets even if they should perform miracles. For Jews, The Hebrew Bible is a done deal regarding what G-d expects of us. For Orthodox Jews, in particular, the Talmud (Oral Law) accompanies the Torah (Written Law) and serves largely to clarify the teachings of the Torah. The Kabbalah, however, is not divine in nature but is studied and used by some Orthodox Jews (Hassidim, especially) to further interpret the meaning of the Torah.

Joseph Smith and his buddies made up the book of Mormon and all the other books they wrote. Yes, I have read them and they are not true to me. How anyone can fall for them is beyond me, but people will believe just about anything.

Back at the OP: Since the BoM is so new, how does he know that it is the word of God? Jim Jones had lots of followers. Was he telling the truth?

God works in and through us. He is present in history, most importantly and profoundly, God entered History, when he became Man and dwelt amoung us

Faith is informed by reason. God, being the author of our existence, created us as rational beings. Therefore, faith and reason are not at odds. When they are, such as occurs in numerous ways and places in Mormonism, reason says faith is irrational.

The Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, especially the Book of Abraham, are two examples of where faith and reason cannot be reconciled. It requires a level of mental gymnastics that is not present in Catholicism.

There aren’t these issues of faith and reason, with the Bible.
Thank you that was beautiful

Shalom
God bless

Obviously, I have offended some and for this I am truly sorry. I was in the army when Woodstock occurred; however, I would have probably enjoyed the experience. I am a Christian Spiritualist (Gnostic). I believe that Jesus was given to us by the Father as the earthly personification of himself. I believe that when one knows Jesus he knows our Father. I believe that good and evil indwells all even the most self righteous amongst us. I believe that all of us sin on a daily basis and that Jesus Christ is our only hope of salvation. What am I trying to say: Jesus wept!

Because, there were thousands of eye witnesses when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the Torah.

Oh and, I’ve watched a documentary on some folks, called Knights Templars, and they’re supposed to have the tablets.

Much clearer. But, special knowledge is not necessary - only a humble heart which seeks the truth.

Because everything in is True and even back up by science, not just history. Mankind in all it’s wisdom, wealth and knowledge even if they came together and tried, can’t produce one blade of grass, that reproduces. All of Creation proves the Bible is the Word of God.

The others’ responses were fun, but I think some fun is okay on a message board since people were only messing with you 🙂 And I liked your post, too. I enjoyed reading it in regards to contents and your style 🙂 I also think I know what you mean. BUT…

I have to disagree 😃 I don’t think that faith is enough. The more you learn the more you fall in love imo. But maybe that’s just me. The more often I read King Davids’ Psalms the more I love him 🙂

Jopola,

Welcome. Do you have any questions?

Do you have any affiliation to Jabba? Only thing you can’t say on this forum is that you are from the Land of Jerusalem. This should make you laugh. If not, something is wrong.

I guess the real question is whether the church defines the bible or the bible defines the church. 😉

AD,

This is the wrong question.

The Bible says that the Church is the mystery hidden for all ages. The OT was written some time after creation…the Bible nowhere says that the Bible was the mystery hidden for all ages. The letter to Romans says “for to you were given the utterances of Scripture”, ie the OT…and the Church having been hidden, produced the NT.

The OT did not define the people of God, nor did the Mystery hidden for all ages…Old T…E…S…T…A…M…E…N…T. Testament, New…T…E…S…T…A…M…E…N…T…Testament…the answer is in the title…Testament…not definition…

Rethink this.

Wow. That caught me off guard. You almost got me there. However, I would have to respectfully disagree.
Yes, the church is the mystery hidden for all ages - therefore the church has always been a part of God’s eternal purpose. I agree. But the word of God is also eternal, and it was by this very word that God decreed (purposed) that He would even have a church.

Now you do have a point to say that the Scriptures were not written until “some time after creation.” I agree. But I would remind you that the written word is only a MANIFESTATION (making known) of that eternal word and decree of God. But the same is true of the church. For although the church was hidden in God for all ages, it was still not MANIFEST(made known) until sometime after creation - and even after scripture.

The obvious proof for this is that the apostle Paul had to write letters to local congregations to correct them and inform them of the mystery of the church. The mystery of the church was revealed to the apostles, but until the mystery was written and explained through Scripture, the mystery would remain a mystery to everyone else.

“For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles, assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, and how the MYSTERY was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. WHEN YOU READ THIS, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE MYSTERY, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. AND THIS MYSTERY IS THAT the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:1-6).

Clearly therefore, the apostle Paul, in large measure, DEFINED the church through his WRITTEN epistles (Scripture).
