How do you know the Bible is the word of God

There are many books, some contain much truth others do not. The spirit can testify of these things, particularly when it involves the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have read few books, if any, worthy of complete rejection.

Thanks for your candor. I am disappointed to hear that nothing would motivate you to read such a book. I am actually intrigued with your response and jmcrae’s response, it helps me see why the BofM is rejected almost out of hand.

I don’t think you do understand. Great Apostasy? No…another Gospel? No…Golden Plates? and the list goes on and on as to what is believed by those that ascribe to Mormon thought…then to be asked to read the book…it isn’t just rejected out of hand…it is rejected because…

Mormons tell me that God the Father had a body and had sex with Mary?
Mormons tell me that they can become gods?
Mormons tell me that they don’t use the trinitiarian formula for baptism?
Mormons tell me that the Bible is corrupt?
Mormons tell me that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Pearl of Great Price and D&C are Scripture…

and it goes on and on…

So who want’s to read the Book of Mormon…knowing that it is false stuff and that it leads to all this other stuff?:eek:

The Apostle John wrote that we are to test the spirits to see if they are of God.

Not all prophetic spirits, brethren, deserve your credence; you must put them to the test, to see whether they come from God. Many false prophets have made their appearance in the world.

I know of no indication that either Muhammad or Joseph Smith did a single thing to test those spirits. Both spirits who spoke to those men fundamentally altered the revealed nature of God - a nature which has been demonstrated, experienced and shown to be true by the fruits He has produced. Any spirit that changes revealed truth is not of God, but rather, is of the liar and father of lies. Interestingly, both Islam and Mormonism allow deception in furtherance of their faith.

Wrong, archeology and other manners of studying history continue to validate and confirm all of the figures and events in the bible. In fact it is the most historically accurate book as of yet.

Science has shown the New Testament to be a first century document and the Book of Mormon to be a 19th century document. Therefore the Book of Mormon is clearly fiction.

Christ founded a Church. That Church, and that Church alone, has the God-given authority not only to have written scripture, but also to test, canonize and interpret scripture. All novel histories or other purported accounts or revelations of creation have simply not passed the test.

The Church has spoken and it is final. You may not know just how reassuring that is. No “new” or “continuing” or “on-going” prophets that change beliefs according to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, or fashion, or culture - just God’s revealed Truth in Jesus Christ. The Church has been there for 100 generations and it will be there at His coming.

Jesus said, “…the gates of hell will not overcome it”
Joseph Smith said, “all of the Churches are an abomination”

One of them is -]lying/-] wrong.

We believe the Church is true which goes back 2000 years for which 11 of the apostles were martyred as were the first 20 Popes. No great apostasy found.

So your belief is in a man who put his head in a bag, looked through a seer stone and translated ancient tablets that can not be found and spoke to an Angel who presented a different gospel which scripture says not to do?

This is no foundation. There is no truth here. It comes from the evil one…the great deceiver.

According to Isaiah 8:20, “To the Law and the Prophets; if they don’t speak according to the Law and the Prophets, it’s because there is no truth in them.” That’s the test. Now, who speaks according to the Law and the Prophets? The Psalmist says that only those whom the Word of God was given. That’s in Psalm 147:19,20. “The Lord has proclaimed His Word to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel. He has not done thus for any other nation; His ordinances He has not made known to them.” Now, you are ready to draw your own conclusion about the Truth and whom it is to be found with.
