1- I went to a men’s group at my parish tonight one man in his 60’s was promoting gay marriage, talking about going to strip clubs and other things inaprotate. I don’t think I’ll be going to that mens group they didn’t even pray

2-my mother attenwdd mass but promotes gay marriage, and abortion. I gave her a list of mortal sins and asked her to please go to confession

3- I am a little bothered with my parish, but not my priest he is great

4-I am very bothered by my parents “hippie” “caffiteria catholic” “social justice” generation they have worked very hard to undermine the church

I would have spoken up in the men’s meeting. That’s a little different than church- probably more laid back- and you probably would have had support from others who also remained quiet. At least that man would have understood your position and hopefully would have kept quiet on his.

I’ll pray for you and your Parish. Keep your head up and don’t waver in your beliefs. God Bless.

Here is another name for those heterodox Catholics who support issues contrary to Catholic teachings- I will henceforth refer to them as the “5th Column of the Church” since, knowingly or otherwise, they are destroying the Catholic Church from within.

What’s wrong with social justice?

I’m sorry, What is a 'Cafeteria Catholic"? I’ve never heard the term before.

Someone that labels himself as Catholic but pick and chooses what dogmas s(he) will accept.

So for example be Pro-Choice, or Pro SSM etc.

Next time you’re at the mens group, suggest starting a course in the teachings of the Church since there seeems to be a lot of confusion.😃 we absolutely have to keep speaking out when someone proclaims their own version of the Catholic Church. Be strong, be vocal, be loving but don’t be silent.

That is simply brilliant.

I read a very good excerpt in a Catholic Magazine, that you might find useful? From the book “The New Evangelization. Responding to the Challenge of Indifference” by Archbishop Rino Fisichella:

“by nature we are Catholics- that is, open to all and wishing to be alongside each person to offer them the company of the faith. We want to speak to all, even if we know that not everyone wishes to have dialogue with us. We have all been invited to knock on every door, even though we know that many remain barred. Yet, as ushers we must never forget that we offer invitations to faith; testifying and proposing, not imposing. Here lies the important distinction between evangelizing and proselytizing.”

He also proposes that we need to pray the Nicene Creed as individuals and familes.

Personally, I ask a lot of questions to find out what people are thinking and why. Then when appropriate, I calmly discuss divine law and what the Church teaches. I am probably not the most successful, but at least I was able to "Admonish the sinner’ and ‘instruct the ignorant’.

I have come to realize that a lot of these gay marriage supporters are unable to see the homosexual lifestyle as a sin. They are spiritually blind and a lot of them refuse the TRUTH.

Most cafeteria catholics are spiritually immature and ignorant of the church’s teachings.

Blessings,

Claudia

I appreciate your frustrations, but you angst against social justice

could be viewed as unfair and spoken without consideration for the Church’s importance, appropriateness, and long history of leading the world in pursuit of social justice.

Such endeavors are Christ like, and not counter to the Church!

I believe that what the OP is expressing, is his frustration at having trown in his face “social justice” when in fact he sees the rejection of fundamental tenets of Chatolic teaching.

You can’t espouse “social justice” as a pass at not maintaining and defending that LIFE is the first and foremost right we have as humans. As our Holy father has said without LIFE there are no other rights.

That the institution of matrimony is between a man and a woman for the procration of children and their protection and well being in a secure and balanced environment.

You gave your mother a list of sins ans implied she needed Confession? Really?

The people in your life may very well be asking themselves how they should deal with a certain “judgemental Catholic”. Just saying…

Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much good to remind them of the Church that Jesus Himself established with Peter. Modern times have taken too much of a toll, not to mention peer pressure of all age groups. Very sad.

  1. Speak UP in that situation! Be charitable, if you can, but admonish the sinner! Take inspiration from Jesus in the temple! Don’t be self-righteous but DO stand up for God’s Commandments!
  2. Talk to your mother in a charitable way. Giving her a list of mortal sins is not going to have any impact because it is very likely that she does not consider herself to be in mortal sin. She may not even believe there IS such a thing as mortal sin. And if she does, she will think that those issues are in some way exempt from it, and that the Church is wrong. So your action will have no impact other than to alienate you from her.
  3. A very valid concern, unfortunately. The Baby Boomers tend to have that destructive effect no matter where they go. I hope they won’t end up destroying our nation permanently but I sometimes suspect that they will before they all die off. Your generations will have to pick up the pieces and go on. I pray that the Church will be reformed from the inside out, and will return to orthodoxy instead of tolerating this heresy that the 1960’s hippie generation has brought with it. Pray for these people. They are in delusion.

This is dreadful! You have to remember to be as charitable as possible, but you have to explain that these things are seriously in error!
