Do you think Mother Teresa would have joined in, extra rare, side of asparagus, and ordered a Grey goose to toast the Monsignor with, or would have chastised all of them for living like rich men who wouldnt fit through the eye of a needle like that camel? Hmmmmm:cool:
Do you think having one nice meal out, once in a while, is living a life of gluttony and sin?

What’s wrong with social justice?
Those who preach it, usually don’t follow the Church’s definition. Generally they support socialist and statist policies, and well as gravely immoral behavior.

God Bless

When the check came, they paid with an Archdiocese issued card??? If they all took the “Vow of Poverty” where did the $$$ come from to spring for the Grey Goose Martinis, and the extra rare T-bones? Hmmmm:shrug:
Where did you get the idea that ALL priest make vows of poverty. Most diocesan priest do not. You need to educate yourself more. You have no understanding of who God is so it is not surprising you are ignorant of His Church.

1- I went to a men’s group at my parish tonight one man in his 60’s was promoting gay marriage, talking about going to strip clubs and other things inaprotate. I don’t think I’ll be going to that mens group they didn’t even pray

2-my mother attenwdd mass but promotes gay marriage, and abortion. I gave her a list of mortal sins and asked her to please go to confession

3- I am a little bothered with my parish, but not my priest he is great

4-I am very bothered by my parents “hippie” “caffiteria catholic” “social justice” generation they have worked very hard to undermine the church
Well, I lived through the Hippie/Sexual Revolution (starting in 1968) and they told young people: “You don’t have to listen to mom, dad, priests, nuns or anybody over 30. You can have sex with anybody whenever you wanted.” This Hippie expression summed it up: “Hey man. If it feels good, do it.”

The problem was that they were not just talking, they began living with their girlfriends and having sex with them. As a Hippie friend told me at the time: “I don’t need no piece of paper ta live with my ‘old lady.’” And when parents called their sons, at the time (late 60’s, early 70’s), heartbroken, this was the story:

“Hello son. I’m calling about you and your girlfriend. I can’t understand why you’re living together. I mean, if you love the girl, why don’t you just get married?”

“Look dad. Things are different now. You’ve got your old ways and we’re both adults so we can live how we want. We’ve got freedom.”

“Well, me and your mother never raised you to believe what you’re doing is OK. And I’m not just telling you this as your father but the Church taught you this as well. You’re making a mistake and I want you to know that.”

“Dad, you just don’t get it. Your generation can’t understand the new freedoms of our generation. And you may never will.”

“Alright son, I’ve said my piece. That said, I want you to know that me and your mother love you,”

It took 40 years and it was all about sex and avoiding babies. Just a few years prior to 1970, babies were called a “gift from God” and parents were anxious to have and raise their own children. Just to give you a taste of how people’s minds were changed and grossly distorted, a few things:

1967 time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,843551,00.html

Read the top line - “Contraception: Freedom from Fear.” Fear of what? Babies.

We were lied to. Everything was called freedom and it turned sex into a plaything and marriage into something it never was prior to The Pill. It turned babies into burdens instead of “bundles of joy.”

1969 catholicnewsagency.com/resources/abortion/articles-and-addresses/an-ex-abortionist-speaks/

The freedom to choose. Choose what? Choose to kill your own baby in the womb. Once again - FAKE Freedom promoted by viciously anti-family organizations like the National Organization for Women, and vicious feminists.

Betty Friedan called the family “a comfortable concentration camp.”

Gloria Steinem, co-founder of Ms. magazine in the early 1970s, (yes, that’s where that word came from), helped spread the message. Men were useless. They were called “male chauvenist pigs” who treated women like sex objects.

Gloria Steinem: “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”

WE WERE LIED TO AND DECEIVED. Love was replaced by sex, so today, people have “just sex” like two dogs meeting in an alley.

I strongly urge you to talk to your priest. Calmly and politely point out what you are hearing and seeing, especially in the men’s group. And tell him about how and why people think the way they do today. Use my links.

THE FREEDOM THE HIPPIES PROMISED WAS FALSE, and was aided and abetted by anti-family groups.

Get the Truth out. Love and commitment, not porn, contraceptives, abortion and strip clubs. Tell your priest it’s time to preach the truth straight out - in love and in fraternal correction. This has to stop as soon as possible. Also pass along how your relatives think, and if you get the opportunity, ask them why they believe what they believe to be OK and not against Church teaching.

Peace,
Ed

One: Priests don’t take a Vow of Poverty in the way you describe.

Two: Who gave you the authority to declare that martinis and steaks are evil?
Diocesan priests work very hard, and for a very small salary. In fact many of them are in dire straits when they retire, because they don’t make enough to provide adequately for retirement. If they have some occasion to celebrate and are treated to a nice dinner with drinks, I don’t begrudge them that in the slightest.

I don’t see any merit in an argument that the Church should continue to tolerate the 5th column of dissenters who are gnawing away at the moral fabric of the Church from within…because a few priests went out to a nice dinner.

About the priests spending money you have no idea if they received a gift card as a thank you from someone.

I’m sure even the most holy people have had a great dinner

So then its ok for them to hide $$$ in banks like Mitt Romney? Again, nobody had the guts to answer the question about Mother Teresa.

And what would Mother Teresa say about the extra rare T-bones and the Grey Goose Martinis, shaken slightly, 2 olives, dry, think? Hmmm. So where did the $$$ come from if not the wicker baskets? and is this morally acceptable? Why exactly was it that Christ made a whip of cords at the Temple anyway? Hmmmm
Mother Teresa wouldn’t have said a word, because she would know they didn’t take a vow of poverty.

She would have taken a vow of poverty, as that is part of the vows of the Missionaries of Charity. And a good many other religious orders. I won’t say all, because I’m not sure of that.

And Jesus drove the moneychangers out because a)They were doing business inside the sacred space and b) They were gouging the pilgrims. Money changers had artificial rates of exchange for the conversion of Roman coins, which everyone had, and Jewish coins, which were the only thing allowed in the temple. They also overcharged for the sacrificial doves, and had a good racket going with the priests to reject any doves brought from home as having a blemish, which forced the people to buy the overpriced animals.

You might also have noticed - since you’re such a Bible scholar, after all - that Jesus’ first miracle was at a wedding feast. A big celebration, lots of food and drink. So much drink that they ran out, so He made some more wine. And not just drinkable stuff (and at that point people were so drunk they wouldn’t care) but good wine. Not only did He attend festivities, but He didn’t speak against them, and He pitched in to keep the party going. It’s in John, Chapter 2.

Feasts and celebrations are a part of Catholicism.

Lots of ignorance out there. Diocesan priests do NOT make vows of poverty. In fact, they don’t make vows at all. They promise obedience to the bishop that ordains them.

Not all religious take vows either. Only some do.

Your have a good answer from Richard:thumbsup:

You are ignorant of Jesus and His Church. Jesus says
Matthew 10:10 for the worker is worthy of his support
You make claims without support. We support are priest they do not need to hide anything since there is nothing to hide. What a snarly remark like most of your post they are disrespectful.

So then its ok for them to hide $$$ in banks like Mitt Romney? Again, nobody had the guts to answer the question about Mother Teresa.
Your posts don’t even make any sense. If priests have money of their own, they certainly can use a bank. They are not hiding anything. Why bring Mitt Romney into this in any way? You really are trolling.

Usually I just smile politely and don’t push any issues unless they ask me outright.

Thing is, more and more people are “cafeteria catholics”, and this is something we’re going to have to address, both as a Church and as individuals in our daily lives. There’s two people in my entire, incredily large family, that adhere to all the teachings of the Church. The rest are cafeteria catholics, and I’m the “fundamentalist” in the family. Why? Because I don’t accept contraception, fornication, abortion, adultery, IVF, homosexual marriage and so on…

I’ve found pointing to Popes or teachings doesn’t help. ie. I pointed out Theology of the Body to a family memeber who gave me some speil about “conscience” and that their’s said contraception et al was okay. Had to have the conversation about conscience then, and that’s always subjective and annoying.

I’ve found, however, that this is more brain prodding:

“Do you beleive that Jesus is present in the Eucharist?”

Generally, if Catholic, will say they do.

Then I just say:

“Well, if the Church says Jesus is present in the Eucharist, which is a heck of a stretch to believe, that a little peice of bread is now Jesus Christ, God of All, Creator of the Universe, and you beleive that, how can you then turn around and say that you don’t beleive the Church’s teachings on contraception? If the Church is wrong about contraception, how can you be sure about Her being right about the Eucharist? She’s either right, or wrong. If She is the holder and guardian of all objective moral truth, then she’s right about everything, or wrong about everything. IF you hold she’s right about the Eucharist, then she must be right about contraception”.

Or words to the effect. Of course, I usually just get blank stares and a topic change at this point.
