How far do you drive to attend the TLM?

if anywhere in this country a TLM could thrive, it’d be here. but, no dice. not sure why. maybe i should talk to the bishop next time my schola sings for a confirmation…:hmmm:

I just sent my last of 5 to A&M last weekend.
That makes 3 of the 5 will be Aggies.
 
It’s given in Latin, in a big, gorgeous cathedral. The chorus is magnficent. It’s evocative, to say the least. There’s only ONE catch – ***THE PRIEST IS MARRIED. *** What would Mel say?👍

make sure they get involved at st marys catholic center. that’s where i found my faith and my wife. both are helping me to heaven.

BTW, TNT, which parish do you drive to for a TLM? Annunciation church downtown?

My best friend is a priest who left the priesthood to marry. This is a discipline of the Church which did not evolve until the Middle Ages. Our Eastern brethren don’t have this dicipline and it doesn’t bother me one bit. My friend married my wife and I as a priest and he is active in his parish’s ministry. HMC is accepting married priests from our Lutheran and Anglican brethren…I know far too many good priests who left the priesthood simply because they wanted to marry. I am a traditional Catholic, but I don’t have any problem with this.

Don’t know the exact number, but it was in the hundreds (in this small town that is a lot). The bishop saw the petition, told the requesters that the Church is not a democracy, and has never allowed the subject to be broached again.

I guess we could send the request to the Vatican and see what happens.

OK, in my part of the world, in the pre-Indult Mass days?

Like, say, from 1975 to 1984?

I’d say from roughly 100+ to “only” 86 miles one way. You had a choice of that or of moving to some state where the TLM was offered by “somebody.”

During my 28 years as a traditionalist I did both, as did my own parents later on, and in and of itselt, have never regreted it, anymore than I’m sure they did.

Indeed, I consider the experience better than ten jillion hours of college credit. Maybe that’s because I was committed to the max financially and otherwise, as were they.

Nowadays, in my current location of the world the whole TLM scene is just plain strange.

A) Ordinary laity get an Indult Tridentine Mass twice a month, in a central location downtown (last I checked).

B)However, those privileged members of either one(1) or two(2) clositered orders of Mexican nuns are assumed to be getting this same Indult Latin Mass at least weekly (or maybe even more frequently).

Reason: At least one(1) diocesan priest has been trained by the local Society of St. Pius X to do so.

45 miles an hour in good weather for the Indult in the next D.
18 miles for the non-Indult (not SSPX) just a retired priest that offers Mass without permission of our D.

With seven of us from 3yo to 63yo it is not possible to go unless we go alone.
 
45 minute drive if there is no traffic, takes about an hour to get there if there is traffic.

Worth every second.

Although, I must add, there is a man in our parish who makes the heroic two and a half hour trip every Sunday. So I consider a mere 45 minutes a blessing.

As for people who aparently live next door to a Church (5 minute drive…) you truely are blessed! 👍 Don’t ever take it for granted, lest we lose it a second time.
 
Takes me about 5 to 8 minutes to get to Mass, depending on the traffic. 😃
 
I don’t, as the TLM is not offered in my parish. But if I did it would be a 9 minute drive, a distance of 5.0 miles to St. Boniface at 2208 East St., according to Yahoo maps.

Petitions aren’t very effective. Tere are two problems, firstly they are very public, secondly the amount of effort needed to add a signature to a petition is so small that the bishop doesn’t know how strong feeling really is.

What you want to do is give him a few months to calm down, then three or four of you write asking permission to say the office in Latin, in a fairly low-key way - no publicity outside of the parish newsletter, no link to anything else. Then if that goes well, maybe he will relent on TLM.
 
10-15 minute drive for me by car or cab. Commuting (mostly jeepneys and a train ride) however, might take an hour o more.
 
Indult Mass is 16 miles, takes me about 27 minutes depending on the traffic. 🙂

My husband and I drive from Indiana, Pa. - 64 miles one way. Takes about an hour and 20 minutes. We don’t get to go very often, but would like to make it there more frequently. It’s worth the trip.
 
I only have to travel about 9 miles. It takes about 20 minutes. I consider myself very lucky. I know a man at my church who drives an hour and fifteen minutes to get there. Now that’s dedication.
