How could possibly God create Hell and justify it knowing the fact that just irrational people goes against God’s plan for us, goodness? Why should God torture irrational people?
One word: Choice.

We have a choice. Either conform to God’s will or don’t. Make no mistake—every soul shall receive a full accounting of their rights and wrongs, and shall know WHY they were right or wrong. Then it will be for them to choose to leave sin behind, or prioritize sin over God in a final act of defiance. We should hope that all souls choose the first, but don’t be surprised that some cast themselves to the latter.

Even so, Hell is a just place by my accounting. God does not torture or punish souls in Hell. Hell is the furthest possible “place” and “state” a soul can reside in from God’s will, but even a damned soul cannot be severed from God because all things exist by his will alone. Rather, it is in their distance from Him that they “suffer”, not because they are removed from His love, (though this the truth), but because even in their absolute rejection of it, their perpetuity through His will is unbearable to them.

It has been said by some Christians of a mystical bent that the fires of Hell are indeed the Light of Heaven found to be too bright for the darkened soul to withstand. And it is in this unbearable suffering in the light that even the unwilling soul bears witness to the glory of God. In the end, all shall be witnesses, whether willing or not.

Hell sounds unfair and cruel, but it’s so consistent with this life.

The difference is that misery and suffering are self-inflicted in Hell whereas on earth they are often inflicted by the selfishness and lust for power of others…

But that doesn’t answer why would it be needed after death.
Answer:
A person is a composite of both soul and body. One without the other leaves a incomplete person. We are just as much physical beings as we are spiritual. The soul cannot function as a person without the body. But we will be given new bodies at the Resurrection that is unlike what we have now.
