Without doubt! God creates us for Himself, Augustine put this aptly when he stated “Lord our souls are restless until they rest in Thee.” But as you can see very readily from looking around in the world, even though God gives us the grace and the innate desire, not all choose to follow. As for giving myself or anyone else credit for making the choice to follow the will of God, I would have to again agree with you, without the help of the salvation brought to me from the Cross on Calvary I would have no redemption at all, but this does not change the fact that I must cooperate with this gift of salvation if I am to move forward in my faith. Some would say that God also gives all men the desire to live eternally and without the desire no one would ever choose life. So even the desire to live forevermore is God breathed into the creature. Just don’t give yourself too much credit for making the right choice for the other choice is denying the very existence of life itself. I’m not sure how free your choice really is but I challenge you to try to choose the other, to deny life offered through His Son.
As for your final statement I believe you will find numerous discussions on free will on other threads so as not to derail your current concern.
