By “Catholic”, I mean the majority of the citizens are professing Catholics (even if not actually practicing). Countries like France, Spain, etc

The above question, viewed in the broader context of this thread, expresses a confusion of issues. Yes, I believe in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Nonetheless, I don’t approve of Jack Chick. IMO, he’s a preacher of *hate. *Sure…let him speak, by all means. This is a free country. Nevertheless, Catholics should view him and his crusade as extremely threatening, and they should legally do their best to counter their effects.

And students and professors protested against Pope Benedict’s proposed visit to Rome’s most prestidious university, University of Rome La Sapienza. They claim the the Pope is against “free scientific inquiry.” He “condemns centuries of scientific and cultural growth by affirming anachronistic dogmas such as Creationism, while attacking scientific free thought and promoting mandatory heterosexuality.”
La Sapienza rector Renato Guarini had urged tolerance, evidently to little avail.

Maybe, but if their governments chose to be “secular”, then I would characterize their laws as “Catholic”!
In countries with a Muslim majority and ruled by Muslim leaders, aren’t the laws influenced by the Qur’an, or are there great exceptions?

If you can just do wahtever and still get into Heaven… why not just do whatever you want…? Dont want to have a baby? Well, abortion is wrong but you aren’t going to Hell for it… so… well, God will understand… Divorce?? Same thing…

I think that is a stereotyped distortion of what Protestants believe and do.
FTR I’m a Jewish conservative, and as such, I have worked with many conservative Protestants whose dislike of abortion and even birth control would put most Catholics to shame!
I live in a city which is overwhelmingly Catholic, yet most Catholics here have about 2 children…compare that with many conservative Protestants, like this family for example:

My husband is originally from a very conservative Baptist family, and there was a relative in his family that was actually shunned for remarrying after civilly divorcing his wife.
You cannot lump all who call themselves Protestant into one group and say they are all like that.

This is funny. I see me in you Once Catholic always Catholic… but you know that already. You are a Catholic that left the Church. Now I see why you’re hanging out here. The way you set up your arguments are quite anti-Catholic…takes one to know one… I used to be very much like you…I left the Catholic Church too many years ago until I figured out some very basic principals and learned some real hard facts that took years to get to because of the folks like yourself fogging my mind. One day, God opened my eyes and then grace kicked in to bring me back home. The evidence was so strong that it converted my anti-catholic wife first. I resisted but finally let God work in me. Comeing home is very hard to do because you have to eat a lot of crow. But I can help you put salt and pepper on it if you like. Walk with me brother. Come home. Your eyes are blinded by what seems to be hatred. You can’t judge a faith by the idiots that are in it. By idiot I mean sinners.

Let me remind my Catholic brothers and sisters of something here. The 4th Degree Knight is based on Patriotism. I am a patriot, as in soldier…honorably discharged. Your attempts to make coach stumble is way off base in that this country was based on Christian Moral Principals. That’s not the problem… People are sinners. Many people of all faiths here have pushed towards the lies of self-distruction. Catholic, Protestant, Muslims, Jewish, etc. This is not a good argument to get into.
I’ve been so engrained in my own culture that this never really crosses my mind. I have to admit, because of my Protestant rearing I hesitate to hand over full governmental authority to Rome. Power corrupts some people. We just know who and when until it happens. So I have to say I do hesitate to allow this to happen. But I don’t see the Church ever really doing that in our life or the future. So the question becomes meaningless…
There is lots of tension between many groups for many different reasons. It’s best to calm things down and appraoch things more peacefully. Everyone gets angry. some just hide it better than others.
