How many of you pray the Liturgy of the Hours? I have the entire four volumn set.

How fortunate you posted this, Manny! I’ve been contemplating the LOTH and want to start, also.

A question, if someone can answer: Is the LOTH the same, no matter the year? I ask because I’m eyeing the leather-bound 4-volume set of the LOTH, and didn’t know if that was for only one year or if it’s perennial (for lack of a better word). 🙂

In the meantime, I’m printing up stuff from Universalis.com and ebreviary.com, and didn’t know if those prayers changed every year, too.

Help!

eta: just noticed that you have the 4-volume set; I’m assuming you pray the LOTH regularly, Manny?

The LOTH or Breviary always have four volume set. There are two version. The full leather version, and there a paper cover with color leather cover. The contents are the same but the cover is completely different. I have the color Liturgy of the Hours set.

I pray it everyday… mainly Morning Prayer, Day Prayer, Evening, and Night Prayer… if I had time I would pray the Mid-Morning prayer, Mid-Day, Mid-afternoon… I enjoy praying the Breviary and I love reading the First Readings and Second Readings from the great saints of the Church…

I had the leather bound and I donate it to the Chapel…

I do the Office Reading, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Night Prayer using the 4 volume set.

I am glad we are now off of Vol 1. I was getting tired of Isaiah.

We are in Volume III now that’s only until we do Volumn II which begins in Feb 6 to May 11

and start Volume III again in May 12 to Aug 2… Volume IV in Aug 3- Nov 29…

The 4-volume set is used “perennially” as you put it, meaning it is good for all future years, unless the Vatican chooses to issue a revision.

You can purchase the LOTH set here:

4-Volume Leather-bound Liturgy of the Hours

The “Guide” is published annually by St. Josphs, and can be purchased here:

St. Joseph’s Guide for the Liturgy of the Hours, 2008

O yeah…I fell in love with it in 2006. 👍 My brother just purchased the set too:extrahappy:
I started praying it during my second Deployment in Iraq. I started off with the Christian Prayer then I move to the entire volume in June I think… I’m not sure the exact date… but I fell in love with it… I have my favorite… It’s Volume 4.or Volume 1 (I forgot which Volume it was. I forgot which Saint wrote it…)

The Office of Reading about the patriarchs, kings, righteous waiting for Mary’s response…

I know the readings starts… "The angels awaits your response Mary. The angels awaits… the patriarchs, king David… King Solomon…

I know. Switched books this morning. If seemed the majority of the First Office Readings were from Isaiah for Advent and Christmas (i.e. Vol 1).

Now off to do Evening Prayers.

Yep, now I definitely want the 4-volume leather LOTH to last me a lifetime.

Hmm, must start saving up. . . 😊

I pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Kinda hard to find the time to pray the LOTH, let alone afford the 4 volume set while in college. 😛

I’m in college too and its really difficult to find time to do the full LOTH so i normally just do morning, evening, and night prayer. Sometimes i do the daytime prayers if i can find the time but that usually doesn’t happen. It’s such a great way to pray though and i love doing it.

Sooo. . . I’ve been scoping out LOTH volume sets, and found several from ebay vendors/stores. Many are used, with publishing dates of 1976. Those are still applicable or current, right? Like someone upthread said, they never get old?

I kinda like the idea of a used set, one that’s already been prayed with by someone. . .

That’s just the minimum. I noticed a large number of the laity has been reading it nowadays. It’s meant primarily for the religious.

You can start shopping online to find used one. I’m sure there are plenty out there. I think Amazon have some…

My husband does this and I do it along with him when we commute together. But only then.
