How many of you pray the Liturgy of the Hours?

As far as I know there is only one set.

However, there are supplements for Franciscan and Dominican (and other?) orders. For English speakers, I think the Catholic Book Publishing sets are the only choice.

You can choose between three options: Colored soft-cover, black leather cover or the colored soft-cover large print edition. You can buy them one volume at a time if you like, but only the first type.

I have both the leather set and the large type set. I have used the regular binding set as well. I do not think the leather cover is worth the additional $24. The large print is great, but a bit heavier and not as portable.

Nothing to add here but my dad gave the the super-sweet black leather set for Christmas and I’ve been really stoked on it. I’ve been saying Morning, Evening and Night Prayer daily (as are a few others, I noticed.) Well, I miss MP often because my lazy-bum rolls out of bed at the last minute before work.

It took me about 3 hours to figure out how to say Morning Prayers for the first time! Finally I found a helpful website and since then it’s getting to be a no-brainer.

Praying the Divine Office is such a great way to be in tune with the Church around the world. It’s wonderful to have this prayerful solidarity with priests, religious, and laypeople all over. Another exciting effect is the greater place the yearly liturgical cycle now has in my daily life.

Plus, newfound appreciation of the Psalms! My friend gave me CS Lewis’ book on the Psalms to spark me even more. Great stuff!

I discovered the LOTH while on my journey to the Catholic Church (long story very short - I enter into full communion with the Church this Easter :extrahappy: ). After praying morning and evening prayer for a time from Universalis, I broke down and bought the 4-volume leatherbound set. I love it! It took me a while to learn how to use it, but I was determined to learn. Now I pray morning prayer, evening prayer, night prayer, and the office of readings daily and try to get in mid-morning, mid-day, and mid-afternoon prayers as I can (though it’s difficult during the work day). I can’t begin to explain how it has enriched my prayer life.

I am also blessed the Dominicans at my parish have morning prayer every weekday, which I attend most days. If you have the opportunity to pray even a portion of the LOTH with a community or group, it is amazing. I also loved visiting the Dominicans at Holy Rosary on a trip to Portland, OR and feeling right at home praying morning prayer with them. I know other groups pray the LOTH when they meet; for example, the local chapter of Catholics United for the Faith meet monthly and start their meetings with evening prayer.

Just another beautiful example of the body of Christ and communion of saints that makes me joyful and so grateful that God led me to the Catholic Church!

This is not strictly true. It depends on your jurisdiction.

If you are in the US then the edition is the four-volume Liturgy of the Hours.

If you are in the UK (and some other English-speaking jurisdictions), the edition is the three-volume Divine Office. I don’t want to sound precious, but it’s English is apparently better.

I think you’re right, but I can’t remember all the jurisdictions. I know it’s prayed in Ireland. …and (I think?) South Africa.

I have been working on it-I need some better time management to do it regularly. Bad excuse, I know…

I was really confused though-the guide is helpful, but it does not tell you stuff it assumes you know. I ordered this book to understand it better, and it has been a huge help.
