How much do you drink?

I get to have a bit of wine or wine cooler every once in awhile.

It just depends. I really don’t drink too frequently. My favorite are margaritas, so I’ll usually have one on a special occasion. Or when I go out for Mexican food. If I’m cooking spaghetti, I usually like to put wine in the sauce, so DH and I will usually have a glass with the meal. That probably happens once every two months or so. And in the summertime, if we’re having a BBQ get-together with friends I will have a beer or two with the meal. My brothers in law are very into beer; one of them is even considering opening his own brewery, so they’re always bringing some new beer to share at our get-togethers. It’s kind of fun having all the variety, otherwise I’d find a favorite and never drink another type of beer again, lol.

Right now, I’m pregnant so I’ve had to give that stuff up. But I am looking forward to being able to celebrate with my margarita again. 😃

I enjoy a cocktail every now and then.

In addition to the extra toll on your liver, the calories can add up very quickly, so there’s plenty of reason to go easy on the spirits. Three margaritas from your local mexican establishment can be the caloric superior of a BK triple bacon cheeseburger.

I never drink. I drank a ton back in my late teens and early 20’s but I got to the point where I didn’t enjoy it as much and it didn’t have the same enjoyable effects on me. I’d drink but not feel good, then wake up with a hangover whether I had 2 beers or 20. I also started realizing that the last thing I wanted my kids to see was me drunk or hung over. As my kids got older and we had more of them, I found that I also had fewer opportunities to drink. On top of that, my extended family drinks a ton, and as binging and drinking games grew to to be the focal point of every single family gathering, I began thinking about how this would look to my kids as they got older and I didn’t want them to see me in the same light. I started drinking less and less, to the point that I was having maybe 3-6 beers per year. Just before our 20-month-old was born a friend lost his job and I had one beer with him. It didn’t taste good and gave me a headache. I told my wife afterward that I didn’t plan on drinking anymore, and I haven’t had another drop since.

Pregnancy has crippled my taste for alcohol.
I thought I would miss my weekend beers but I haven’t had any desire to drink even after having the baby.
I’m also breast feeding so I still can’t drink…but weirdly enough, I just don’t want to.

Before I was pregnant I think a six pack of my favorite beer would last me almost two weeks.

Presumably alcohol. And as to the second question, the OP already addressed it. And why does the answer matter anyway? Respond to the question or don’t.
👍👍

I don’t drink very frequently. Maybe one or two drinks a month if I go out to eat. And once in a great while, like once or twice a year, I will go to a party at a friend’s house and drink a little more.

I only like mixed drinks, like margaritas or daquaris. I hate the taste of alcohol, so it has to be in a drink where I can’t taste it.

I drink one or two of my favorite microbrews when we go out to eat about once a week and when we go to a party.

I almost never drink.

I used to partake of a few drinks every now and then when I was younger, but I never found anything I liked the taste of. **Eventually, I thought “What’s the point of this?!” **and decided to stick to soft drinks that I actually enjoyed and which were considerably cheaper. 😃
Jennet, I could have written this post! :D:clapping:

I drink about once a month.

When I do drink, I typically have 4-5 or more, depends. Yep, I’m a big guy.

I’ve never really liked alcohol. When I was in my late teens and early 20s I liked to go out and “party” because everyone else did it. But now I hardly ever have a drink. I guess if offered I’ll have a glass of wine with dinner but I don’t really like it anyway 🙂 Water and milk are the best and would choose them over any alcoholic drink anyday ;)😉

I was a teen binge drinker, but now I’l have one or two drinks on the weekend or a few more at a party or family dinner (if I’m not designated driver).

I don’t like hangovers.

I can’t believe I’m the only person to admit that he/she has more than 2 drinks at a time. LOL. That is, besides the alcoholics (much love and prayers for you.)

I certainly don’t question the genuine nature of these answers, but this set of answers is rather unusual, isn’t it? Perhaps age plays a factor.

It is unusual. Either people on these forums are a subset that are mostly “conservative” in their drinking, OR people who rarely or never drink feel more compelled to report how much they drink for one reason or another.

I put “conservative” in quotes because traditionally alcohol was a very common part of every day life for people of all ages!! These newfangled puritan inspired lifestyles seem to be all the rage these days. 😉

However, there were a few other people that stated they drink more than a couple drinks. I’ll have a few on the weekends sometimes, but not during the week.

I don’t drink alcohol with meals but I’ll have a drink or two (or sometimes five ;)) every now and then. There are times I have like a beer every day, then there are times I go for months without any.

I was thinking the same thing.

Two or three times a week, and usually two glasses of wine on those occasions. For me red wine is a treat, it takes me all evening to drink these two glasses and I thoroughly enjoy it. I grew up in Holland where the attitude towards alcohol is a lot more “relaxed” if you will, than I found it in the US. For instance, pregnant women drinking a glass of wine or beer? Not a problem. In Canada, or in the US (I’ve been pregnant in both countries) I would feel uncomfortable being seen with a glass of wine while pregnant.

While I have no problem with other people drinking, I don’t drink at all. I haven’t had a drink in over 2 years. When I turned 21 I figured I would give it a try. Found out I liked it a little too much. I never drank to drunkedness but I found out that I very easily could have and decided to stop. A short while later, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and there is some correlation to drinking causing a couple issues (from low and high blood sugars to people assuming you’re drunk when you’re actually having a blood sugar episode) so that is my excuse now.

Not everyone, or all professionals believe in the desease model of Alcoholism.

There are various ways to approach a problem with alcohol. One size doesn’t fit all.

Many folks make use of programs like Moderation Managemeent which has a similar success rate with AA.

I rarely drink, especially in social settings. Alcohol just puts me to sleep - which is why I keep a bottle of wine in the house for when I can’t fall asleep (maybe once or twice a month). One drink works like a charm.

Something I notice is that in my Catholic social circle, people seem to care less if I drink or not. My family and other friends seem so intrigued when I refuse a drink they offer me. They often think I have a religious hang-up about it, when the truth is I just don’t like drinking. I used to hold a drink in some situations just to appear to fit in, but as I’ve become more confident, I’ve become better at saying, “no thanks.” If it throws people off, that’s their problem.
