How much do you drink?

I occasionally have a glass or two of wine, not much more. I’d love to have a glass with dinner now and then, but I end up leaving open bottles recorked around and they get all stale tasting or something, or perhaps I’m paranoid. I need to find smaller bottles, or convince my husband to pick up the glass of win with dinner habit 😉 He drinks the occasional beer or beer-like bottled drink, but not wine.

I quite enjoy beer and quite often - get ready to gasp - I have more than one!

It depends on the week. Sometimes I drink every night. (A glass or two of wine/beer with dinner.) Sometimes just on the weekends. (A bottle or two of wine split with my husband.) My husband and I are really into wine and beer tasting. We actually keep a “wine journal” for wines we particularly enjoyed and we have plans to home brew beer next year. My husband takes particular care to choose wines and beers that go with each of our meals for the week. At this point it’s really more of a passion for him and I simply enjoy the ride.

One thing I can’t stand is any kind of hard alcohol. I just genuinely can’t get into the taste and it makes me quesy no matter how much or how little I drink of it. The last kind of hard alcohol I had was a really expensive ouzo and to this day the smell of anise or anything licorishy makes me sick. shudder

My mother in law and father in law actually don’t drink at all and are very judgmental when it comes to others’ drinking habits. My mother in law would think one glass of wine with dinner is “too much” but I happen to think it makes a good meal better. 😉

My husband and I both have family members that are alcoholics, but we agree that the approach my parents took in informing my views on alcohol were wise. My parents drink in moderation and raised me to be aware of the fact that alcoholism can be a problem, but that there’s no reason not to enjoy drinking alcohol. My husband’s parents, on the other hand, use(d) fear tactics with their children and created an alcohol-free vacuum for them, so that when my husband left for college he had no idea what drinking in moderation looked like and probably OVERDRANK a bit to compensate for having been stifled as a teenager.

Cheers!

I am just trying to see how much my fellow Catholics drink on a daily and weekly basis. Thanks and God Bless.
I drink beer frequently, though not necessarily always on a daily basis. I will almost always drink beer on weekends and holidays.

In general, yes, I agree with you.

However, did you read through this thread?
I have no hangup with other people drinking - I just can’t. Well, I can, and massive quantities at that, but it’s not a good idea to get me started.

If someone can get the pleasure from alcohol with out the pain, I encourage them to do so.

I hope you’re not saying that because a lot of people on this thread don’t drink much that that means we have hang ups about alcohol.

I don’t drink much because I don’t like it that much. For one thing, one drink makes me instantly tired (unless it’s very weak). I don’t like the taste of any alcohol, be it wine, beer, or liquor, so it has to be in a mixed drink for me to be interested in drinking it. And it’s expensive. I’m very cheap and see purchasing alcohol as a waste of money.

I have absolutely no issues with anyone drinking at all. Both of my parents drink every day. My dad actually is an alcoholic (functioning) and drinks throughout the day. There has been alcohol around me ever since I was very young. I can’t ever remember a time when it wasn’t in the house. I am completely used to it. Just don’t care about drinking it.

Three 8 oz. bottles of purified water a day, and usually one (hot) white tea with ginger and three glasses of Island Mango White iced tea with sugar.
:angel1:Blessings from one little teetotaler.😉

I drink A LOT…of water. Alcohol very rarely. Occasional glass of wine. Beer/Ale/Etc. even rarer.

The rest is green tea and coffee.

I get through a couple of liters of single malt scotch** a year,** and maybe a case of beer. So I guess, maybe 1-2 drinks per week?

More when we’re on a cruise…

At most I’ve had recently is a six pack at once, but that was a few months ago. I hate liquor, last time I had vodka, it ended horribly. I’ve probably had 1.5 a week over the past year, but I tend to drink a lot at once if I do it. I can only remember my mother(single parent and a non-denominational oddball, Imo) drinking a handful of times in my life and only wine coolers, so I may have so kind of change relationship to alcohol, since she always gave the impression it’s bad. I can think of two people I know that think Catholics are such heavy drinkers, even “alcoholics,” but they aren’t Catholics and I haven’t noticed it at all since becoming one, that I think they are just poor logicians or completely ignorant.

Can anyone drink and say prayers? I’ve tried to pray while on like 1-3 drinks and it never really works out well. I get distracted so easily. Lol.

1/2 a frozen fruity drink maybe once a year but that is stretching it. I don’t care for alcohol.

I drink about a six pack of Miller Lite a night, maybe more when we’re in a social situation, a glass or two of wine with dinner, and sometimes I like to have a cocktail or two in the evenings after the kids are down. I’m a pretty big guy (6’4" and 230 lbs) so I can handle quite a bit. I am never, ever drunk. I’m surprised at how little this group claims to drink.
