How much do you drink?

I’m surprised at how little this group claims to drink.
I used to drink enough to kill a moderately-sized village in India a couple nights every weekend (and at least the same amount throughout the week). I’m pretty positive that I went a full year in college without ever fully sobering up. That eventually caught up with me and between it losing all appeal and me not wanting my kids to see me in anything near that shape, I gave it up. On top of that, drinking seems to be the source of about 40% of the problems in my extended family. My kids are getting old enough that they can see these things going on. I don’t want to engage in any behavior that they can later point to as condoning what the others do in any way.

Occasionally, I’ll have a few mixed drinks or a glass of wine or two (maybe three:blush:). But I don’t usually let myself get beyond buzzed these days.

I drink about a six pack of Miller Lite a night, maybe more, a glass or two of wine with dinner, and I like to have a cocktail or two in the evenings.
Sounds like you could easily afford to get Patricia that housekeeper then with all the money that goes into drinking daily so you can unwind from all your duties.

. I’m a pretty big guy (6’4" and 230 lbs) so I can handle quite a bit. I am never, ever drunk. I’m surprised at how little this group claims to drink.
I am a pretty small girl (5’0" and 130 lbs) and a lightweight on top of that, more than two glasses of wine and I am starting to get drunk! So when I say a glass or two of wine, that is about all I drink without starting to get drunk!

You drink 8- 10 drinks a night?

64oz of water a day…
You must be amazingly healthy. 🙂

I have a glass of orange juice and coffee with breakfast, another cup of coffee at 10:00 am, a glass of water with lunch, a cup of herbal tea in the afternoon, and two glasses of milk with supper.

I have a beer with friends about once every two months or so, and three times a year, a glass of rye and ginger with a different group of friends.

2 litres of water; 1 or 2 mugs of coffee; 1 cup of tea; 1 or 2 cans of sugar free fizzy cold drink; 200ml milk.

During the 3 months I’m “at home” each year: occasional glass of wine or champagne (with a meal - or Granny gets out of control…and falls asleep) and a liqueur 3 or 4 times a week.

No issue with alcohol, just don’t like the taste too much (and the price and unavailability where I work for most of the year means I don’t think it’s worth the cost and effort to get it).

I am a 40 year old SAHM of a 6 year old boy and my husband and I generally drink beer after our son has gone to bed. We used to drink a lot more when we were younger but we’ve cut way back. Since drinking alcohol is a concern to me from a moral perspective (I don’t want to ever deliberately sin!), I asked my confessor what was moderate drinking for me and he said “no more than 2 drinks.” So, since that time I’ve never had more than 2 drinks in a sitting (and I try to pace myself not to just gulp it down). Unlike many who are posting, I do enjoy the taste of beer and consider it like a dessert (my husband feels similiarly). I only drink in situations when I don’t have urgent responsibilities. And, if for some reason I had to make sudden decisions (e.g., an unexpected illness of my son), I could reasonably take care of the situation.

My husband and I generally like to drink beer most nights of the week. But, we can go without drinking when we are surrounded by people who do not drink as well as we can “give it up” on penitential days like Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

I hope this helps.

Just the other day, I said to some Catholic friends, “I didn’t know Catholics drink so much”!

Last year before I became Catholic, a Catholic couple who invited me to dinner and offered me wine quipped , “Get used to it. You’re almost Catholic now”.

I noticed that whenever there is a reception after a lecture at a parish or some other event, there is always wine.

A little different from my past church experience.

I don’t drink any alcohol at all. Never liked the taste of it. My husband typically has either 2or so glasses of wine a night, or a couple of beers, or a bit of some really good scotch.

Made me smile, TrueLight. I started off Anglican, wandered about in various “other” denominations, eventually back to the Anglican church (and 5 years ago…Catholic at last). I returned to the Anglican church from a very strict “not a drop of alcohol” group and one of the earliest events I attended started with Evening Prayer, then to the church hall for shared dinner and whatever the event was (I can’t remember what it was) - my eyes nearly popped out of my head when the first thing I say on entering the hall was a table full of alcohol, then I remembered myself and it was fine 😉

Zero. Not at all, never have never will.
DH does not drink either.

Not much…but I will say this. Today my two extreme violent alcholic neighbors turned on me for asking to get 5 bucks back. The one constantly bugs for everything and I decided to go out there and ask for my 5 bucks…well of course it was about 4 oclock which means at least 14 beers had been consumed and prob a little liquor…total Al both with the common health problems…

they went crazy , I live alone and still feel my head is a bit woozy from the screaming threats 2 inchs from my face, pushing me and all that stuff. Anyway I told them …that is it not talking to them and keeping to myself. It was absolutely un-believable…two mental drunks right out of control…I’m really good in emergency…but afterwards I don’t feel so good…so be careful with drinking to much you can really make a jerk out of behavior cause the patience and depth of thought is lacking…anyway what a world living on your own, it gets a bit much…of course they don’t work and I hardly really even get time with all the responsibilities…you gotta play it down…don’t strike back or run away…ask questions if you can which de flame…and then just hope you did the right thing to eliminate any notion that you have ill-will…they can get drunk…go into a panic protect mode and think your the worlds problem…yes trying to move what a day

Forget about the 5 bucks and call the police.

Thanks for entry…They are both assault history individuals, one is a maximum security and long jail record…i’m having trouble not doing as you say right now but if I do and live here sooner or later I will be in a continued state of threat due to reporting…so I figure if anything else evolves with me just keeping to myself, I will call in 2 seconds…

Don’t want to live in fear, been there done it and being alone in a house its just not a good thing…so hopefully it won’t happen again as I did say when he was going on about breaking my neck in a maniac way, that I would call. Anyway this is alot to do with alchol abuse and the consequences of drinking each day , all day over years. Thanks very much for the feedback

I quite enjoy beer and quite often - get ready to gasp - I have more than one!
As do I. I always joke i’m part German/part Irish…put them together, what do you come up with? 😉

That said, I do most of my drinking when i’m home as i’m not a night club or sports bar person (don’t like crowds).

My husband and I both have family members that are alcoholics, but we agree that the approach my parents took in informing my views on alcohol were wise. My parents drink in moderation and raised me to be aware of the fact that alcoholism can be a problem, but that there’s no reason not to enjoy drinking alcohol. My husband’s parents, on the other hand, use(d) fear tactics with their children and created an alcohol-free vacuum for them, so that when my husband left for college he had no idea what drinking in moderation looked like and probably OVERDRANK a bit to compensate for having been stifled as a teenager.

Cheers!
I was a freshman in high school and another kid cooked up a scheme for us to crash the senior party (this was like '86 or '87) and I got HAMMERED. My Dad took one look at me the next morning, knew my condition and didn’t say a word as he figured I was being punished enough as it was. I partied alot in high school, but never much in college as the threat of losing federal student loan and aids for being busted for MIP was enough to keep me from the college parties.

Well I drink untill I start dancing but stop before I’m unable to dance. Seems to work well for me. As long as you don’t drive and don’t get to the point when you do stupid things I don’t see the harm in it. But I’ve only been catholic for three days so what do I know.
