I thought this thread was about EWTN?
It is, And I just wonder how much EWTN would celebrate a sainthood of Merton compared to say Fulton Sheen?
Which proves those in denial here that EWTN is in fact political and biased.

Its all a show. Entertainment. He’s a good actor but I question some of its substance.
Thomas Merton . Now there is a Saint. A much broader intellectual than Sheen. His talents from so many areas. A giant of a man. In so many ways.
Sheen was an entertainer, but also a great intellectual. That’s why he was such an appealing speaker. He could take high level philosophical/theological concepts and apply them to everyday life for his viewers. This can hardly be called lack of substance! If you read any of his books on subjects like Christ, the priesthood, and Mary, his intellect is immediately evident.

I’ve never found him to be the idol of conservative Catholics; but, just a good, solid Catholic. (Unless one equates “Conservative” with Orthodox.)

Personally, I think Merton is a bit overrated but I’m not going to call him substance-less or lacking in intellect.

People disagreeing with you being dismissive of a “venerable” doesn’t equate to “taking it personally”.
I’m out, as this thread seems to have an agenda.

I simply must have the last word on this very important thread.
But I forgot what I was going to say.
Now I remember.
I do have a gender . And it’s …………
There is no truth in the rumour that I am gender fluid btw

An interesting point about Fulton Sheen was his show was on broadcast TV and appealed to people of all different faiths.

He’d often read letters from children at a he beginning of the show.

Currently, other than the Holy Father, I can’t think of another Catholic with broad appeal like Fulton Sheen.

You can still watch on your computer, tablet, phone or with a device like FireTV, Apple TV, Chromecast.

Dracula dressed as Hollywood thought Eastern European Counts would dress.

I am a woman so I tried watching Women of Grace once or twice. It was very boring.
I was disappointed.
What do others see worthwhile about this
show?

I haven’t had cable for a couple of years, but I used to enjoy the travels of the Pope and the special Masses. I also liked the movies about the Saints. I used to like Father Benedict Groeschel’s show from
several yeara ago.
You can get EWTN and EWTN on demand, and EWTN’s other international channels for FREE with a Roku, Apple TV or Amazon Fire Stick

I don’t watch EWTN much anymore, but I do listen to avemariaradio which is an EWTN affiliate. I also listen to EWTN radio classics (Fr. John Riccardo).

Mother Angelica was a wonderful saintly women who brought the faith to many people who otherwise wouldn’t know catholicism. She’s a heroine of mine.

I don’t think of the channel as conservative or progressive, but rather Catholic. The programming is designed to teach what the church teaches and in my experience does a very good job of this.

Probably because they aren’t on mainstream TV, but you might look into Fr. Larry Richard, Fr. John Riccardo, depending on what you are looking for, they are both wonderful speakers.
