How much has watching EWTN influenced your Catholic point of view?

The man had two doctorate degrees, one is Philosophy and another in Sacred Theology. His show was so popular, he actually won an Emmy!
Well the Emmy proves my point. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying Sheen was dumb. I saw him once described as the poster boy for Conservative Catholics. Would that be accurate ?

I don’t like hearing him reduced to that. He’s my favorite for so many reasons. We were going to name our next son after him, but we’ve had daughters ever since.

As for EWTNs influence on me. I don’t have cable now but the dorms I lived in during(secular) college did. I developed some habits of prayer thanks to EWTN. I would not have had the discipline or knowledge to at that time without it.

Really? I didn’t know that.

Bela Lugosi didn’t seem very Catholic Cardinal in his look. Looks more like a count going to the opera.

Maybe Christopher Lee

I thought he wore black to look like a bat.

Do we really have to use one holy person to knock down another holy person?
If you prefer Merton, fine, but it doesn’t take away from Sheen’s holiness, which is evidenced by the progress of his sainthood cause.
I’m sure there is ample room in Heaven for both men and they were serving different functions on earth.

Yeah, sometimes Dracula is wearing a Royal like suit (like in your first pic). Other times, his are similar to bishops with the cape.

Point is… Sheen didn’t dress like Dracula

What a distasteful comment. Sainthood is not a competition. Good grief!

Not only is it not a competition it’s absurd to even make the statement. Bishop sheen wrote over 60 books and numerous other shorter writings.

I’m having one of those periodic moments of reality check about the state of human nature.
It’s a bit depressing to read Catholics so eager to stomp all over those whom others have said they find inspiring and helpful.
I get that not everyone is blessed in equal measure by everyone, but the sneering dismissal of fellow believers is quite unpleasant.

mother angelica made some some great tv shows

but we have seen these episodes over & over & over again

it it is time for ewtn to come up w/ new programming for that time-slot

I like the “call and answer” shows like Catholic Answers Live and Called to Communion. Also, Life is Worth Living with Rev. Fulton Sheen.

For me EWTN is awesome. Where else would I have seen Pope John Paul-2 in the Holy Land or in Cuba. Never seen World Youth Day before EWTN. Who else would have shown the funereal of Mother Teresa. Where would the March for Life be without EWTN - I do not think CBS or NBC would have showed much of it. That is just some of the big items. How about all the 30-min. talks by so many people about the faith that you forgot or were never taught. Their are shows for young, old, single, married, etc… The awesome movies about the lives of different Saints - not going to see that on ABC or FOX. But the best is the Mass - everyday.

EWTN changed my life. Specifically EWTN radio. Calling into catholic answers allowed me to address some concerns I had and brought me back to the faith

ewtn is block-buster catholic media

i am sure mother angelica’s ancient broadcasts can offer a lot to the newly inquisitive

I remember this EWTN Open Line lineup…Monday - John Martignoni, Pro Life Tuesday - Barbara Mcguigan, Wednesday - Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Thursday - Patrick Madrid and Friday - Colin Donovan

Man they helped a lot when people at work challenged The Faith.

I wondered why they still ran her show and then I happened to talk to a couple of recent converts who said she was instrumental in their conversion. So keep broadcasting them I say. She is still defending the Church against the liberals.

me, too

i sit in my crummy little office & listen to the ewtn radio line-up all day; on-line

i wish i could listen in my car; but the signals of the ewtn radio stations in my area are far too weak…
