If people choose other religions without knowing that the Catholic Church is the true Church of God, they are invincibly ignorant and will not be banished to Hell. God is just and good and will not condemn a person who really want to be with Him. That said, He will not admit them to Heaven unless they are ready to go. That is why, He in His unfathomable mercy, created a “waiting room” called Purgatory.I am sorry for your loss but it was not God who took your child. Your logic here is flawed. You are discussing two completely different things. You also don’t seem to understand what Heaven and Hell are I think. Also the Catholic church teaches that it is we ourselves that choose whether we will be with God or not by our choices, words, actions and faith in this life. Hell is not some punishment that God doles out to the unworthy and that is something I think you have confused. Hell is chosen by those who go there because of their constant state of rebellion against God’s will for us. Those who choose to follow other religions, who choose anything over God are only choosing their own fate. We can’t hope to understand everything and there may be other chances for us that God has not revealed to us but we can only discuss What has been revealed. This is not a judgment and is truth. If you think this is judgment you fail to grasp what I am saying.
I have a feeling based on Jesus’ words in Mark 4:11-12 “[11] And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables: [12] That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand: lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.” – some people are not meant to hear and understand and believe and be converted - now - because they may not be able to complete the mission at this point in their lives. I tried and tried for years to believe in the Bible, but I was unable to understand it. It was nonsense to me - the work of people who were only trying to control others. It seemed unscientific, horrific, insane and unjust to me. So I shunned all religion. But then one day, after a long argument with my Christian mother, she said to me that she will pray that God Himself will come to me in a dream. I said “okay…” to her and we hung up. It was a week or so later, after her words weighed on my mind, that I prayed to God and begged Him to show me the truth, if it was His will. Nothing happened for another month or so, but then one night while in bed waiting for sleep I saw a waking vision of Jesus and Mary sitting on thrones. It was just a glimpse but it was so beautiful and real that I knew I had my answer. God was real and the Catholic Church was the true church. I set upon a journey of discovery of the Church I used to persecute. I think that when we are ready to accept the truth, come what may, that is when God will unstop our ears. This meshes with his parable about seed landing on rocky ground or among thorns where the hearer may hear and believe but the climate prevents them from sticking with it. So that is why they are prevented from hearing and believing and why the Bible seems like incomprehensible nonsense to most people (or is waaay misunderstood by many) I may be wrong, but I do believe that God is way more wise, merciful and just than we.
