and those who can find more reasonable hours at another company will quit.Incentives like that can be used to demand free labour from everyone. Fail to comply with the manager’s increasingly regular and/or unreasonable demands for unpaid hours and you’re either out the door, or you’ll go nowhere. There’s also the question of where should the line be drawn. For example if most employees were to routinely work unpaid from 5:30 till 7:00, then only those who stay till 8:00 will stand out for promotion.
