How old were you when you had your first steady boyfriend or girlfriend?

I married at 19. I totally wish I’d skipped dating because my ex-boyfriend was a really bad influence and I did a few bad things after hanging around with him, and even did some bad things with him. Thank God my husband is so good and Catholic!! 🙂

In my teens always had a bunch of boy “friends” but no boyfriend.
My first serious romantic relationship was at age 26. He was the love of my life and I thought I was going to marry him until he dumped me 😦

Turns out I did not meet the true love of my life until I was well into my 30’s. I am a month shy of my 39th birthday and engaged. Yay! 🙂

define “steady” … i had boys as “steady”" boyfriends but i now realized i wasn’t really emotionally ready for a relationship. i think

my first steady boyfriend was my husband when i was 19.

Hello,
Ive had many boyfriends…none have never been what u call “steady” but…im 22 and waiting for the one to walk into my life whenever God may call him…

God answers prayers!!:)👍

I had 4 boyfriends in my life. I was naive when I fell in love with #3, don’t think I was in love with him more that I was in love with loving him. #4 is now husband. He is a true match and my best friend. Wish it didn’t take me so long to realize that.

I was 18.

I would advise to get to know what you want out of a spouse seriously before marriage.

We met at a wedding reception on Friday the 13th. I was 15, he was 16. We went to different high schools and continued an exclusive dating relationship thru 2 high school graduations, one associate degree, and 4 years of college. Got married at ages 22 and 23… each got a bachelors degree, and 4 kids later, are still totally committed to each other and our marriage. Without The Lord, none of this would have been possible !

So many personalized understandings of steady! At least in the Midwestern USA, the word had a meaning that most people in a public high school knew. It used to have a real meaning, anyway. It meant you went around exclusively with the one person and you dated them frequently. Everyone knew who it was who was going “steady”. If the parties had them, it would include the exchange of the class ring. Some amount of “necking” seemed to go with the territory.

If you lived in a rural enough area and manged to make it through senior year still going steady with the person, marriage then became what would most likely happen shortly after you graduated (ie, you broke up with the high school sweetheart in senior year if you didn’t want to create expectations). Otherwise, there didn’t seem to be a lot of idea of marriage.

It seems to be a bad concept in my book. Maybe it doesn’t exist on the current day scene?

I thought a steady relationship was having a boyfriend or girlfriend??? Surely if you don’t have a ‘steady’ partner, then you are merely on the scene? Anyways my first boyfriend in which I thought I could actually marry, I met at 18. I broke up with him after 4 months at the end of my first year at uni cause I knew he wasn’t mature enough to show the love and respect I was looking for. I believe there’s no point in staying with someone if you don’t think they are ‘the one’ for you. Anyways, after that summer I met this beautiful man with whom I believe is my soulmate <3 It will be 1 year this Friday =) I’m currently trying to teach him about my faith. He is 3rd generation AOG (pentecostal) but is open minded and willing to learn about the Catholic church =)

wow, i’m in the majority 😃

whenever i looked back, i alwasy see an immature individual who wasn’t ready for a serious relationship. but being 18, i thought it was and i though it would last forever. 2.5 years was a lot of time back then

I had my first date with my now husband when I was 19 but I don’t know whether he counted as a “steady” boyfriend back then. But we did see each other more or less regularly until we got married seven years later.

😃 Now if you count the boy I had a mad crush on in kindergarten (who liked me too) then perhaps I was five when I had my first steady boyfriend. 😛

Dated a nice boy exclusively for several years in High School. He would have been nice marriage material, but we broke up while away at different colleges.

Kissed a few frogs, then met my awesome DH when I was 21. 19 years together, 14 years married, 2 kids, going strong!

I’ve never been in a steady relationship before, at least not in a mature sense of “steady”. The longest relationship I had (if it can even be called that) was when I was 15…lasted three months before it ended. I also dated two other girls for around two weeks each and that was it. Haven’t had anything since then.

I was 16, and dated him for about 2 and a half years. It was a nice relationship, I treasure the memories. Then I dated a few jerks before I met hubby at the age of 29. There are a lot of similarities between my first boyfriend and hubby, I like to think the first boyfriend just set me on the path to meeting hubby, that I would recognize who God wanted me to marry.

I’ve dated 2 guys, married 1/2 of them :p. Started dating the man I married right after I turned 20.
