I was 14, he was 17. We were together for 3 years and then he got shipped out and I went to college…We really thought we would get married someday and discussed engagement (in high school! in the 90s!).

Met DH when I was 22 and he was 27 and got married 5 years later. I was ready to get married about 6 weeks after we started dating - took him a little longer to figure it out :D.

I met my girlfriend when we were 14, just freshmen in high school. We were lab partners in Biology. We started dating two years later, during Junior year. Now it’s the end of our Senior year and we’ve been dating for a year and a half. We’re each other’s first real boyfriend/girlfriend.

I was 14 and she was a great girl, I do think of her from time to time and those innocent days.

I was 3 months shy of 19, as it was December 2008 when he asked me out. We dated for 7 months before it just died away and we mutually agreed it was time to move on. I haven’t talked to him at all since then, and I’ve had 3 more boyfriends and a few fallen-away hopefuls since then, but none lasted as long as he did. (And none were Catholic!!!) I always thought he was intimidated by me being Catholic, as he was staunchly Baptist, and pulled away from me more and more after the first 2 months. Ah well.

Now just seeing what God will give me, though I wouldn’t mind a nice Catholic boy this time…

Hi!

I’m 18 and am currently dating the only girl I’ve ever dated 🙂

We started dating last May, when we were 17, after a year of being friends and an awkward relationship 😉 lol

We know for a fact that we are meant for each other… Everything has gone perfectly so far… She was the one who made me explore the Catholic faith… (I was a recovering JW at the time of us first dating…) So, I owe her quite a bit I must say 😉 lol

However, we are graduating high school in a month, then off to different colleges… We’re kinda worried about the next four years, but we’ll pray about it…

May God’s will be done…

In case it has been overlooked, this is an old thread from 2004, resurrected in May of 2010and now resurrected yet again.
Indeed! I clicked on the thread and was surprised I authored it, some 7 years ago.

Nominally 12-13 but if you look at the substance, then 22 or 23.

I generally don’t think young people should behave as if half-married but on the other hand I don’t believe in free, uncommitted romantic dating. I mean, too early commitment and too much talking probably kills a relationship but kissing with a couple of young women or men during a single week is not a fine way of romantic life. I don’t like the uncommitted, “testing” notion of the “non-steady” dating.

So I guess things should be kept light, preferably also on the formal side (i.e. names and recognition) until there is some substance to it, at which point it should be exclusive because having two boyfriends or girlfriends is a lighter form of polygamy and I thoroughly dislike that kind of thing.

I was 18, and a freshman in college. So was she. We “went steady” for 2 years, but didn’t get married. She wanted to, but I just wasn’t that settled yet.
At 20 I met my wife. She was 17. We dated for 3 years, during which time, we broke up several times. Trying to settle issues that we disagreed on.
We married, when I was 23 and she was 20. We were married for 50 years when the good Lord decided she had put up with enough in this life, and took her back home. Needless to say, I was not at all ready for that. Now, after 9 months, I am still desperately in love with her, and can’t wait to go meet her. As deeply as we loved during our time together, there is simply no one else for me. So, I’ll just wait until He calls me back, and continue to try to be as ready for that day as I can be. :gopray::gopray::gopray:forums.catholic-questions.org/images/smilies/prayer/pray.gif

I was 23. :o Not that I didn’t want a girlfriend, but I never got my act together. Too much social anxiety, ADD, etc.

Being unattached through college meant that I was available to escort women to events, dances, shows, etc., when they were either unable to find dates or their SO’s were unavailable.

I guess it had it’s pluses and minuses. Looking back, I don’t think I missed much by starting relatively late.

I was amused that this thread got resurrected!! I mentioned my first boyfriend - found him here on the CAF…well, I married him last year. 😛

This thread is 9 years old and the last post, other than today, was two years ago.

Please don’t resurrect ancient threads, people. 😛

Now, that is what I call predestination. You can’t get much better than that, especially in today’s world. May you both live long, an loving lives with each other, in the presence of God. 👍
