It is the same in any totalitarian country. Dissent is crushed. There is no such thing as a Communist country where it doesn’t happen.

Ever read anything about North Korea in the modern era?

I’ve actually met two defectors. It’s not nostalgic of the 1950s and 1960s. It happens now.

May I recommend the books “Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea” and “The Girl With Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story”.

This isn’t fantasy and it’s not ancient history. It happens now.
