I believe this is a slanderous statement that bears false witness, and as such, is a violation of the forum rules.
Actually no. It’s just his misguided opinion. 🤷

BTW xFBx, how come you haven’t posted on the thread where you are given a chance to show us that our church was founded by Constantine? I personally would really like to see the proof of that, mainly because I have yet to have seen any at all.

You’ll find that thread here. Good luck.

You’re wrong. Ask most of the catholics here. They think it’s about works.
Well if that is the case…as you state it…they believe we are saved through works…not grace…And since you now know this is NOT what the Catholic Church teaches…It would be your Christian duty to inform these folks this is not what the Catholic Church teaches. Then direct them to the nearest Catholic Church So they will be able to talk to a Catholic Priest about this. 👍

Why don’t you do it? Don’t you care?

Finally someone gets it. He’s not here for dialog, he’s not even answering most posts. He’s simply slandering our church, and doing drive-bys.

xFBx needs to be banned.

Why don’t you do it? Don’t you care?
If we didn’t care we wouldn’t be here trying to discuss this with you.

As for making sure that n-Cs understand this…Isn’t that what we are doing with you?

And since you now know better, I guess that now you will abandonf your allegations and when the Catholic faith comes up among your fellow Baptists, you’ll make a point of correcting them in the interest of objective truth?

As a Catholic, I feel that my views of how works play a role in our salvation are reflected in the following quotes:
From “A Catholic Guide To The Bible” by Father Oscar Lukefahr, C.M.
When Paul addresses the issue of faith and works, he is pointing out that we are saved by Christ, not by works of the Old Law. But the New Law of Christ involves works, especially the work of Love.
In Paul’s theology there is no conflict between faith and works.
They are both part of following Christ.
We may read Romans today for an explanation of the primacy of Christ in our lives. We are not faced with the issue of observing the Law of Moses, but we are tempted to put our reliance in other things. Christ alone can save us. In Romans we are told how to put faith in Christ. We are shown the power of hope. We are taught to love as we are loved by Christ.
I believe that we are saved by God’s Grace alone, and our response to God’s grace is a faith working in love.

I believe what the Baltimore Catechism taught.

God created us to know, love and serve him in this world, so that we may spend eternity with him in the next.

How do we know him?
We should spend time with him, reading scripture, at Mass, in front of the Blessed Sacrament, in prayer.

How do love him?
We love God, by loving others.

How do we serve him?
By placing him first in our lives. Building our lives around him.
He should be in charge of our time, our money, our family, and our sexual life.

What does born again mean to you?
Probably not the same thing that it means to you.
I think we would agree on the effects upon us in being born again, but I don’t think we would agree by the means which we are born again.

I would tend to agree with what the church fathers taught.
If you are interested in what they had to say, then here is a link.

Born again - Church Fathers

Jesus explains it in John chapter 3:5
Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

It is foreshadowed in Ezekiel 36:25 - 28
[25]I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
[26] A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
[27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.
[28] You shall dwell in the land which I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

I believe those passages are referring to baptism, but I doubt that this is what you believe.

What does born again mean to you?
Repentance and baptism (Acts 2:38 & 22:16) and then following Christ, (John 14:15, Matthew 10:38, 16:24, & 25:31-46, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23) which is a lifelong journey and not the oversimplified “plan of salvation” as presented by some non-Catholic communities.

http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/1.gifI dunno…I must have 30 Bibles in this house, and not one of them has the:rolleyes: “Gospel According to the Southern Baptists” in it.http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/4.gif

I guess I must have been:rolleyes: missing it in there, all these years…

It doesn’t have catholic in it either, except when it mentions the “great whore drunken with the blood of the saints”

The point is that my beliefs come first from the bible over everyone and everything including the church. I simply go to a southern baptist church because it is the closest church to my beliefs. On the other hand, many catholics here have admitted that they think that their church can somehow save them, which is a boldfaced lie and and insult to Jesus Christ and what HE has already provided on the cross.

I congratulate you on your faith in the teachings of your church.

.

I attend a Church that is closest to what the Bible says.

I do take exception to you saying that the Roman Catholic Church is the
“great whore drunken with the blood of the saints”
.

Jesus redeemed us by his death on the cross. This act of redemption provides for us the ability to be saved through faith and obedience to Him.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Mat 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Are you doing all that He commanded? Or are you picking and choosing?

Statements like that are a quick way to get yourself banned. You might want to read this article before you go slandering our Faith.

I believe you misunderstand what a Catholic means by that. It’s not Church vs Jesus Christ - the Church IS the Body of Christ.

You just proved that you don’t know your Bible. You claim the Catholic Church was founded by Constantine centuries after the deaths of the Apostles. Yet you simultaneously accuse the Catholic Church of being the Whore of Babylon, which was drunk with the blood of the saints “and apostles,” Rev. 18:20.

How could the Catholic Church have killed the Apostles if the Catholic Church didn’t exist until the time of Constantine?

Which is it? Was the Catholic Church the Whore of Babylon which killed the First Century Apostles (Rev. 18:20)? Or was the Catholic Church created by Constantine centuries later?

And since these accusations are mutually exclusive, which one will you now apologize for?

Well, first we have this from Frodo:
The point is that my beliefs come first from the bible over everyone and everything including the church. I simply go to a southern baptist church because it is the closest church to my beliefs.
Then we have this item from today’s Charlotte Observer:
". . .4,000-plus attendees at the Baptist State Convention will vote Tuesday morning to cast out Myers Park Baptist [an old and prominent congregation in Charlotte] - but only after short speeches from two of the church’s leaders. One - Nancy Walker, secretary to the church’s board of deacons - is a lesbian.

“‘It’s important for our particular witness to be made,’ said the Rev. Stephen Shoemaker, Myers Park senior minister and the other scheduled speaker Tuesday: ‘We think the local (Baptist) church ought to be free to interpret Scripture itself. . .’”
Luther’s chickens keep coming home to roost.

You are, well, to be pitied. You cant help yourself from spewing forth the venom that is apparently a part of your faith. Lets all look at it once again and view everything thing you say with the knowledge that this hatred is also part of your beliefs.
The point is that my beliefs come first from the bible over everyone and everything including the church.
Im not impressed. You are not particularly smart as judged by the body of your posts. Despite your faith in yourself to interpret Scripture I simpy have no confidence in you. I am also not particularly smart, but I am plenty smart enough to recognize that you have no business deciding for yourself what the bible teaches in all areas of the faith, let alone leading others to faith.

And there it is again - the hatred which blinds you and the hardened heart which cannot yet be reached. Again, I give thanks that the truth of your anger and darkness is so easy to see from this post so that those who might have been confused by your earlier words will recognize that you are no one to emulate (look it up) .
