How to Handle Neighbors Dogs

You’d be surprised. Some of these dogs are quite stubborn and not great thinkers 🙀.

Happy Biethday

In ten years it will be something else. Eradicating an entire breed does not address the issue.

In ten years it will be a different breed - because the absence of a Pit will skew the numbers.

Extinction isn’t an answer. I’m sorry, but you’ll never convince me that it is.

Because where do you draw the line? Where does it stop? When the pit is gone and it’s cane corsos, and then when they’re gone and it’s some other breed…it doesn’t fix the issue. It just shifts it.

I don’t believe it! Now there’s a black bear running around the neighborhood! Why is the animal kingdom conspiring against two cute kids who just want to play outside?!?!

I am a cat person so should probably keep my opinion to myself, lol. I avoid dogs that are bigger then me anyway.

From what i hear, Pit bulls are animal aggressive, not people aggressive unless placed into the wrong family or with the wrong owner. I heard it’s recommended not to have other pets with them or let them run free in a dog park.

But because of the intimidation factor, many people who need additional protection in thier home are drawn to this breed. it may have skewed the numbers above, because most are not being raised as family pets by capable owners.

It’s one thing to mishandle a yorkie. It’s completely different ball of wax to mishandle a pit bull or another powerful working dog breed too. The owner must be competant.

True story, years ago a coworker had 3 dobermans and one tried to challenge the owner by attacking. The owner grabbed the doberman by the neck, threw it down and put thier foot on its head and yelled at it. They told me they had to do that to reestablish dominance, and all is good. 😬

I don’t know if all dog owners are capable. I know I’m not, so I don’t have dogs.

I’m with Pup7 on this. I don’t think the problem is the breed, it’s with irresponsible dog owners who don’t work and train their dogs to behave.

I think it’s both. Larger breeds and breeds with a strong hunting instinct require a different environment than toy breeds. Those issues are, in fact, inherent in their breeding. But those are issues. They only become problems when the owner is either unaware of those issues or chooses to ignore them because they get their jollies out of treating a large, aggressive, hyperactive work dog like they are a pug. If you don’t have space to let a large dog run, don’t get a large dog. If you don’t have time to exercise a hyper dog, don’t get a hyper dog. If you don’t want your kitten to get eaten, don’t by a dog with a strong hunting instinct. Get a dog that’s suitable to the amount of time, space, and effort you have to spend on it.

So if a pit bull attacks and kills a small child what punishment do you give to the owner? The gas chamber or life in prison without parole?

Oh dear, I can so understand your dilemma as it’s happening to me as we speak. I have decided to go over to their home (make sure someone is with you) and let them know in a kind manner that there is a problem here because we can no longer go out into our backyard for peace and quiet without their dog barking and snarling at us. As soon as the dog sees one of us or hears the door open he starts up barking. I’ve tried to ignore it and I’ve prayed about it hoping to see them outside so I can kindly tell them my relaxing back yard is now full of barks and it’s continuous until we go back inside. We will ask them if there is anything they can do about it as we’d like our relaxing back yard back. See what they say and pray for the best upon returning home. If worse comes to worse we will have to call the city to complain and if they do nothing we will have to call the police. It’s difficult. Let me know what you decide to do and how it works out. Blessings. By the way, if you do not protect your children now and something horrible happens to one of them it may be harder on you in the future. Maybe installing a outdoor video camera will help to show your neighbors your concerns. Just make sure you are as kind as possible in speaking to them and pray for God to do the rest. Ruff! Ruff!

Growing up, we had a letter carrier who befriended the dogs on his route by having treats ready.

Lately, several neighbors possess dogs of a yappy/yowly nature. They sound off randomly throughout the day–and night. A co-worker suggested ibuprofel in a frankfurter–a bit far to throw for me–but Mother Nature may be providing another solution. Coyotes roam the area. So the more the loud little ankle-biter yips for it’s owner to be let indoors, the more the dinner bell sounds for these prairie wolves.

My nearest neighbors seem to possess the ability to sour the gentlest breeds, as well as overfeed them. Never broken to the leash, so they roamed into my yard to relieve themselves or wander down the street to inspect curbside trash. I had to place my trash bags in a large plastic drum to prevent this. I would return whatever the dogs left behind in my yard–with a shovel. Then I would seed a mothball into each “patch” to prevent a return visit to that spot. A shoot full of Napthalene can do wonders–also works for skunks.

It doesn’t sound like you,ve spoken to the neighbor yet, that should be your first step.

If needed, I’d go with the suggestion of a privacy fence, at least on that face of the yard.

  1. The same punishment as for someone that purchases a car they cannot handle and accidentally kills with it.
