How to prepare for Halloween?

The idea that the demons are particularly active on Halloween is superstitious nonsense.

The problem that too many Catholics ignore the day of obligation the next day is real.

All Hallow’s Eve is not a time of triumph for demons, but a time of defeat. We recall the salvation Christ has delivered to the saints who have gone before us, and look forward to the promised Resurrection of the Dead.

Demonic or not, Halloween is certainly getting annoying. Stores dedicated to selling Halloween costumes and props set up shop two whole months before the big day, and many department stores, novelty shops and thrift stores fill their aisles with Halloween wares during all that time too. There are also Halloween greeting cards for sale. Halloween greeting cards! Whose idea was that? Do people really send those things to each other? This is a heck of a lot of fuss over one evening in the year for kids to mooch candy from their neighbours.

Thanks but no thanks. According to that article Halloween originated so Christians could make the devil. Mocking the devil is dialogue with the devil and we as Catholics are taught not to do that. Did Jesus mock satan , ever, no. Did Pope Francis tell us to mock the devil or not to dialogue with the devil.

Also Christians should not be mocking anyone as per in true Christian charity.

Neat. Perhaps you should write a letter to Catholic Answers (which owns this forum) and explain how misguided their apologists are.

Thanks for your suggestion. Catholic Answers is an Apostolate of an American ArchDiocese.
Did you sign an agreement when you joined saying you would agree with all their statements or opinions?
I certainly did not.
I also note the disclaimer at the base of the forum.
’ the views and opinions expressed in these forums do not necessarily reflect those of CA.’

Are you stating CA is misguided? Or are you claiming another said it. If so, please cite where.

I focus on All Souls Day and All Saints Day, reminding myself to attend mass on All Saints Day since it is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Aside from giving candy to trick or treaters, I ignore Halloween too.

My coworkers do dress up in costume on this day.

The best course of action is to join hands ecumenically with our Jehovah’s Witnesses brethren and not celebrate it.

My non-celebrating co-worker didn’t want her kids to feel left out, so she got them “Hallelujah” candy instead of Halloween candy.

Our parish remedied this years ago.

The Vigil Mass is followed by a Halloween Festival for kids with games and treats. They are encouraged to wear their costumes. It is a very well attended Mass!

Trick or Treating has disappeared in my neighborhood. I haven’t seen anyone in years.

I think the Trunk or Treat and sponsored events draw more people now.
