Am praying especially for those at home in need of rescue to be found and provided with adequate shelter to be sustained in the place of God’s provision (including jollyoki) and for other prayers listed above.

I also pray that ones, as they face this disaster and have heard of God, will not grow bitter but rather humble themselves and truly turn to Him with all their hearts. God have mercy upon our land.

Many are without water, I believe because the water treatment plants are without power. Please pray for the power to be restored soon, especially to essential services such as water treatment plants and grocery stores. Thankfully we will be getting a cold front tomorrow night and the lack of air conditioning will not be felt as hard as it normally would be. Please pray this cold front does not bring with it much more rain.

Thank God Houstonians are the finest people on earth. There have been few reports of any looting. Most of us are pulling together and helping each other.
 
I heard earlier that now there’s a chemical leak in one of the flodded areas. Too much.

BeeSweet, my prayers for you and everyone in the affected areas. God give you relief and restored services very soon.

Per someone who volunteered on the phone lines at a disaster help service, the majority of calls came from local people who needed help for family members down south who hadn’t evacuated. Phones are down, cell phone towers down; some of these people are older or have medical conditions; one mother called about her son’s family with several children, food running out, no way to get gas, roads blocked. Please Jesus, help them.

Did they say when the phones went down? (electricity & cell… wondering if ones like jollyoki could call out). Perhaps someone on this thread will know,

No, no mention of when they went down, and not all cell service is affected. Electricity has been down since the storms went through. Last night, there were 4 million without electricity according to the news. Tonight’s news said 3 million. Maybe they don’t really know yet how many are without power.
If cells are operable, I hope people think to power them off because they won’t be able to charge the batteries until the electricity comes back on.

Please pray for the phoenix, who is a faithful prayer warrior for those in this thread and on CAF. As ones in other areas, she is now without power. She had important plans for tomorrow. May God grant her the wisdom what to do and a speedy restoration of power and telephone.

I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for not having a link for this, but Fox 4 DFW reported 9:40 pm that there are FEMA trucks with food at Reliant Stadium but as yet no distribution points set up. Logistics are a big problem because roads are blocked by debris, downed power lines, etc.
People are finding hotels with electricity that will let them plug in to recharge cell phones and use laptops.
 
We have been kept aware of the effects of this disaster on Australian news, so I’ve been praying for you all. I ask God to watch over you all; and I pray that the help that is needed to bring in necessary supplies and restore the services will be rapid and effective. I pray for God’s mercy, that the impact on families and workplaces will be minimized as much as possible.

Downtown Houston now has power; original report anticipated to take up to 2 months to restore, reports now indicate power will be restored within 3 weeks. Search and Rescue underway; 2000 rescued over the weekend. Gas prices have not increased as high as predicted in south Texas and Louisiana, although there are long lines and shortages. Oil rigs did not sustain anticipated damage. Grocery trucks coming into Houston to restock grocery stores today. Services still pretty disorganized. All per Fox 4 DFW this am.

Continued prayers as given in this thread and more, thank God for these reports in Houston. And may any not yet found or unable to ask for help be rescued.

Well, I’ve been actually hunkered down in Ohio and it was only for one day … combined power outage with debris closing roads. So it’s a little bit embarrassing to find myself mentioned in the same breath as those in Houston and Galveston whose sufferings are immensely worse. :o

Anyways, I am very grateful for having been prayerfully mentioned in this thread …

… and will definitely continue praying for all those affected by Hurricane Ike, especially those in Texas. May God grant safety and provision of shelter, water, food, electricity … to those most in need.

No storm damage at my apartment. And in fact, I was blessed when I showed up to start a two-week temporary contract job because other companies were calling in to the recruiter and telling the contractors to stay home today, whereas the company I was assigned to was open as long as you could get through all the road detours. Thanks to you and Pilgrim Elaine for the care expressed in this thread!

Update on Jollyoki:

Jollyoki (Heidi) made a quick call to me from the Houston area because she has to watch her phone battery, since she won’t be able to recharge it for the next couple of weeks. She rode out the hurricane in her apartment because when she called 911 and described her condition, they told her she’d be better off staying put because there was no electricity in the shelters to run her breathing machine, and she’d get no hospital bed unless she were a far more urgent emergency.

There was no flooding in her place, and by some miracle, her water pressure is okay, although she’s been without electricity since the hurricane hit. Breathing is definitely challenging for her, but she believes that people’s prayers are allowing her to survive and breathe easier than she otherwise would.

Jollyoki is still greatly in need of prayers, so that she remains able to breathe without the electricity needed for her machine, … and for more security in her living conditions, because the apartment where she happens to be right now is really not affordable … She’s trying to get help so she can either stay there or move somewhere new, but in the middle of making calls to the government is when the hurricane hit.

Thank you all for your continued help and prayers … I always let Heidi know that you’re praying for her, and she thanks God for you.
