But a lot of them were people that you knew had hit rough times in their lives… they weren’t the stereotypical assumption that people have… KWIM? Sterotypical assumptions make people have hardened hearts and that’s so far from what the truth is, so far from what reality is. I fear I’m still putting my foot in my mouth, I hope I’m not. There’s many who end up in that situation just from life… I hope that makes sense.

I grew up in Milwaukee and went to Madison often. Also, to Wakesha(SP?) There I knew people who spent their lives trian hopping. I would bring them pizza and stuff. Their is certainly sterotypes…I think it comes from fear of being ignorant about some people. Now a days there are so many more homeless in usa. I wish the media would say more about it so people get over their prejudices.

Milwaukee had Ernie Von Schladorn (sp?), is he still around?
Madison had TV Lenny… those commercials I could never forget. I miss Madison but it definitely isn’t like the rest of WI. I did get to work at a free meal once, that was with the ol co-worker I mentioned. Volunteered there for a while and later was able to eat there. And yeah about the homeless because had a handful of friends in Madison who were homeless.
 
Am continuing in prayer for the wide area, for Deacon Ed B.'s family, for the elderly couple that went to northern TX with the husband in a terminal illness – Lord watch over them in a special way, pnewton’s mother and the adjustment for them to these damages, and jollyoki (Heidi) in her needs. I am thankful for these prayer threads. May more be drawn to pray across this nation.

If any know of other CAF members in this area in need, or others who need prayer in the area, please do add this to the thread. Thank you.

Ernie …I remember him…so funny! I don’t know if he is still around. I ended up moving up north …north of Green Bay and I lived in the woods for a few years. I hoped to live there the rest of my life but things happened and I had to move. I loved Madison when I was younger and a partier. I protested at the capital and all that. My dad and brother went to college there. It was like a second home to me. I had friends there that were farmers too. And there was restraunt right across from the capital building that had foot long hot dogs and I loved them.lol
 
A hot dog place on ‘da square’… (blush) I know the hot dogs with everything added to them we’d call ‘Chicago Style’ (or I did) Vienna Something? Maybe someday I’ll be back in Milwaukee, then again it’s not the same as I remember anymore.

I believe they were just called foot longs, later on NY style.
I have a friend in Mil. It is totally not how it use to be. So, I am glad I have good memories. However, up north is the same beautiful place.
 
Would love to visit Holy Hill again someday. I think I’d see it in a whole different way now. It’s been a long time.
 
OHHHH yeh, I haven’t thought about Holy Hill for years. It is sooo cool. I am sure I would see it in a whole new light now that I am alot older from the last time I was there.Your bringing up good memories. WI has alot of good places.
 
Ok, I know I’m late, but better late than never, right?

My husband and I live across the street from Brennan’s (the resturant that burned down during the hurricane) and saw it all happen. Please be in prayer for the 4-year-old girl that sustained burns on 70% of her body as a result of an electrical short that caused the fire. She was airlifted to San Antonio the day after Ike and I have not heard anthing else about her since then. I think her dad sustained some burns as well. Also, please pray for the GM of Brennan’s. We saw him all last weekend and he was still in the same clothes we saw him in on Friday night on Sunday afternoon. He was devastated and my heart went out to him.

Since the night Ike hit I have had an irrational fear of sirens in the middle of the night (there were a lot of other things that happened that night that I won’t bore you with) and I am trying to overcome this. I know its a VERY minor thing in light of what other people are going through (and will seem silly and immature to some people), but I could use all the prayers I can get.

It is never little and silly when it is any level of distress. I will pray for you and what you asked prayers for.

I will add BM of Brennan, the four-year old girl and her father to my prayers. I will also be praying for your restoration after all you have seen, as well as the area in general. May the Lord bring ones closer to Him, bring comfort, supply their needs, and help our nation return to Him and help those in need here at home.

Maybe it’s not bad to talk about WI places close to me in this thread, prayerfully this will be a blessing to others. Holy Hill & St. Josaphat’s are both basilicas now, 2 in one diocese. Been to both. 🙂

National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians - Holy Hill

This is on YouTube, the outdoor stations. Seemed like it always rained on Good Friday and I remember walking those stations as a child. Would love to go there again now that I would appreciate it more. On a clear day you can see St. Josaphat from Holy Hill.

You know, it actually lifts my spirit to think about these places I long forgot. I did not know they are basilica’s now. I remember it raining every good friday too. I use to walk the stations with my mom at Holy Hill. Not always long in prayer, yet always I felt close to Jesus.
I am glad you brought these places up.
 
One more, man, it’s been YEARS but INSIDE Holy Hill, I think this is the Upper Church, I believe we were usually there but was in the Lower Church a few times as well.
 
I want to thank all of you for the prayers for my daughters in the Houston Area. All are OK. My daughter who lives in Friendswood with her family sustained severe damage to their home due to a tornado spawned by the Hurricane. It is a two story, 5 bedroom, 4 bath home and part of the roof was taken off. As a result, all the sheetrock and insulation and carpeting will have to be replaced. Oddly enough, there is no damage to furniture or appliances. There is now power to their area. They have a large tarp covering the roof at this time, waiting for the adjuster to get there. There are many damaged homes in the area, and they were told it may be up to 2 months before repairs can be started.

My other daughter and her family who live in the Fort Bend area have no damage to their home other than a couple of shingles, but had no electricity for 4 days. All are Ok and we thank God that it was not worse for them than it was. Many others simply have nothing to return to. It is difficult to comprehend the devastation for many who have not experienced hurricanes. It seems different areas of the country experience different perils of nature, thank heavens none have all of them.

My mom got her power back yesterday. She was so adament about staying there even was the temperatures were rising. My town is now up to 50% power, so there are a lot of folks suffering still that need your prayers.

We had a full house for Mass this past Sunday despite the humid, stagnant and dark conditions. My little boy was so polite and quiet even though I know he was uncomfortable. The only wiggling he did was fanning the lady next to him. 😛

I feel for you Deacon and will continue in prayer for these specific needs and much more I can imagine. pnewton, I am soo glad your mother is okay and that you got to church. Your son is precious. My prayers will be with your family, mother, and the area. God bless you both and your extended family.
